New to me Mercury Mariner 2 hp 2 stroke outboard!!
chris.brock replied to northernpike56's topic in General Discussion
Great score! Never sell that thing (except to me ), keep it in the family. Does it have neutral? Neutral is a huge plus. edit- see if it's made in Japan, Yamaha made some small outboards for Merc and Mariner and they were solid -
Browsing Kijiji, there's some ice fishing transportation coming up for sale. I think the first listing sounds sweet. http://www.kijiji.ca/v-snowmobile/oakville-halton-region/great-for-kids/1053982160?enableSearchNavigationFlag=true http://www.kijiji.ca/v-snowmobile/oakville-halton-region/1987-skidoo-tundra/1054399685?enableSearchNavigationFlag=true http://www.kijiji.ca/v-snowmobile/oakville-halton-region/1986-polaris-sprint-one-owner-sled-700/1054253662?enableSearchNavigationFlag=true

Nice, fat, lakers Brian and Erich. I'm stuck in the city and very envious. -

I don't know Rick, are you sure you want to spend that much before you've tried it? You could use your pike outfit and buy a few new baits, try it out and see if it's your cup of tea. oh yeah, I have a 20 year old Curado, lots of hours burning big buck tails, it's still fine and did not burn out -
good luck Joey, I know Ralphie is in good hands Our pets add so much to our daily lives, here's Winston and Feisto 20 minutes ago

Brutal winter-Will it affect the spring bite ?
chris.brock replied to knightfisher's topic in General Discussion
Things can change quick, but if it's late like last year, fine with me. I thought the walleye fishing was great early season, plus flat lining lakers on May 2-4 weekend. I booked the week off before May 2-4 this year -
I'm no help, but I think if you edit/ change the title to Lake Temagami ice fishing help, guys will chime in

Whats your worst fishing accident
chris.brock replied to LostAnotherOne's topic in General Discussion
this is an almost accident- Whitewater Lake My stomach turned and I didn't have long to get to a toilet. Full throttle, we did a Baywatch style beach landing and I ran for the nearest cabin. I thought I was home free, flung open the bathroom door and there's a sink and shower, no toilet. I run out of the cabin towards the outhouse but had to stop on the trail. "Mike, if you're taking the trail, don't stray from it" I'd like to hear more about Mike's polar bear dip in 100 FOW??? -
Highly recommend Family Ice cabins on Lake Simcoe

Dave sounds like a solid guy. Sounds like a memorable day despite the tough fishing. -
No knowledge about that specific vaccine. Vets are like used car salesmen IMHO. I don't do any vaccinations for my cat and dog, they are both 13, eat turds, drink swamp water, and look like they are in their prime.

I was expecting to see a ling, mud puppy or bowfin. That's a weird one for sure. I would guess an exotic fish somebody let go when they shut down their aquarium.

Lets talk STRESS.......... NF fer sure

Drinking is great, but it's temporary. I'm not a health nut at all, but vigorous exercise can do wonders. Go to the soccer field, run until your heart is pounding out of your chest, walk a bit, run again, etc for a half hour or more. -
Looks like a great time! So who's the angler of the day with the best fish?
-
Awesome Mike! I'm not a steelheader. I'm curious, why is it so popular to head south of the border, better water, stocking?

Good read, looks like fun guys!

A rough day on the ice, Fish Report- updated
chris.brock replied to chris.brock's topic in General Discussion
Operation Whip-poor-will began at 0500 hours under the cover of darkness. Chris Kyle was the Devil of Ramadi, Chris Brock may or may not be the Devil of Lutterworth Township. Oh, what's this, a black XLT only 600 meters from where the stuff was taken. A black XLT is fairly common, a super cab (not crew cab) is not so common. I called the cop I reported to (like he told me to). I had stuff to do, went away, swung by later and 2 cops were at the truck. I offered them my snowmobile and helmet if they wanted to hit the ice. They didn't. This is a topic for a different thread, but while we chatted the cops kept pestering fisherman. Quite a few times I heard "Sit tight for a couple minutes Chris, while we deal with these guys." Definitely not the reason I called them. I would rather see resources spent on nailing thieves instead of harassing good people trying to have a little fun up in cottage country. I digress. Here they give a breathalyzer to a snowmobiler on a Firecat. Anyways, they are going to talk to the guy. Hopefully he says yeah, I picked that stuff up, I thought it was abandoned, and we get it back. We shall see. -
Probably a propane refilling guy (just kidding). Last winter a cottage buddy pulls his sweet, well insulated hut out, lights 1 burner of his 2 burner stove, locks the door and goes to town for minnows. KABOOOM! I saw the aftermath, pretty scary. Nobody hurt in either situation, that's a good thing.

Just curious, why is hydro a must? My favorite drive to Algonquin campground is Kiosk. Some nice smallmouth last time I was there. Cruise the access road at dusk for wildlife sightings.

Toronto Ice Fishing - Once in a life time event
chris.brock replied to AKRISONER's topic in General Discussion
I'm not saying it's a good idea, but a lot of people from the island go ice skating when conditions are right, I've also heard the police warn or harass them in their hovercraft but don't ticket them. -

I'm not at the cottage. Covert operations will begin shortly though. How did your hair turn out? Hopefully no surprises like we had. lookin' good Joey! vvvv vvvv Lew those thieves are bold, brutal! I was stupid and made it easy for them. I should have taken 2 minutes and hid the gear in the bush. Non issue. I have helped and received help from many nice people up there and was confident nobody would take that stuff. -

I warned Chris and Bain before they came up- "It's going to be tough fishing, if you get 1 bite all day you're doing well". I'm glad you guys enjoyed it. I'm sure we will remember and laugh about that day. I was happy with the 4 small ones we got, that's better than expected. My Dad missed a bite, my brother and nephew had no action. There was 1 fish (winner) caught just over 4 lbs. It seems that year class is starting to get scarce now though. The CO did tell me once he has seen 10 lb fish caught. -
I don't think being almost 2 feet off the ice will work out very well. The wind and snow will be blowing under your hut too. Another option would be having the trailer as a flat bed to carry an ultra light, custom made hut with no floor. Drive to your spot, pull the hut off the trailer, put it back on the trailer at the end of the day.

Sucks to hear this Rick, I'm a pet guy too, I can relate. She sounds like she was a great friend.
-
Nice Simon, you kicked your buddies butt out there. Variety is a good thing, but if I lived up your way I wouldn't bother with the lakers, it would be walleye, walleye and more walleye.

Thanks for the nice words guys. Really! I was gonna give you a call and tell you guys but I decided to sit by the fire with a stiff drink instead. Totally, it was a comedy of errors (there's still more not mentioned) still it was a fun, memorable day for sure. Lots of winter left.
