Awesome pictures Joey, specially the 1st one !!

Too bad your not up this way Brandon, there's not a cloud in the sky and the eclipse is perfectly visible. I've been out on the back deck for awhile now watching it and it's really an imprssive sight the way the moon took on a sort of red glow. Wish I was able to get a picture but my little point & shoot would only show it as a white dot.

Really pathetic work and looks like something done by a kid in grade 7 woodshop class, rather than a supposed professional. Hopefully you haven't payed too much $$$$ up front and I definetely wouldn't be handing over anymore of your hard earned $$$$ Good luck and it'd be nice if you could keep us posted on the outcome.

I don't know either Billy...or is it Bob ?? ...but I also doubt very much that the Navy would want a 1/4 mile long carrier stuck mid-continent between locks with all the whaco terrorist types just sitting waiting for such an easy target.

My next door neighbor puts out feed for the deer when the snow flies and every morning and evening I have anywhere from 1 to as many as 17 deer in my backyard and I've had deer as close as 10' from my back deck. I have a trail starting at the back of my property that meanders 1/2 a mile thru the bush out to hwy 28 and alot of them come down there, but they also come along the dirt road in front of the house and come up my driveway. Pretty kool to be sitting here at the puter looking out the window and have a herd of deer walking down the road only 100' away Here's a couple pics I took earlier today when it was still fairly dark out and snowing but you can get the idea.

My dad spent 5 years in the Canadian Navy during WW11 working on the Atlantic & Mediterranian until Germany surrendered. It was then decided to send ships, including Dad's, to the Pacific to help with the fight against Japan. They went down thru the Panama Canal and up the west coast to San Diego where they were getting ready to cross the Pacific when Japan surrendered and they were then sent home again. Dad often talked about the Canal and said it was unbelievable that something so amazing was built with the equipment available at the time.

I've been driving for 48 years now....yeah, I'm gettin old(er).... and IMHO 4 dedicated winter tires are far better than anything else you can put on your vehicle for the snow & ice. The modern day winter tires with softer rubber compounds, 1000's of sipes and better lug designs just bite into the snow or grip the ice better and get you where your trying to go. Even the old snow tires were FAR superior than summer tires. I've owned everything from Corvairs to Rivieras to 4X4 pick-ups and jeeps and I've used snow or winter tires on every vehicle I've ever had. Back in the day most vehicles were rear wheel drive and we only put snow tires on the rear with sandbags in the trunk. It helped with traction but steering was poor until someone came up with the idea of using 4 snow tires, even on 2 wheel drive vehicles and that made a HUGE difference. Over the years I've either driven or been a passenger in far too many vehicles in the snow and ice without winter tires and there's absolutely no comparison.....no matter what some folks say. I purchased a new 2010 F-150 Super Crew 4X4 this year that came with 18" Goodyear Wranglers that may be great in the snow....or not....but I still went out a couple weeks back and bought 4 dedicated winter tires & rims for the snowy season. Lots of extra $$$$ and the grey steel rims aren't nearly as purty as my OE chrome wheels, but in my opinion it's $$$$ well spent. Every day it seems I get held up behind some guy who can't get traction in the snow or ice with his All Season Radials, even though he probably thinks winter tires are for wimps....or is it wussies

I had to go into town today to do some shopping so I dropped the Toro off on the way and they had the repair done in 15 minutes and it was ready to go again. The Toro dealer is also a John Deere dealer and if there's waranty work to be done on my JD lawn tractor there's a $100 pick-up and delivery fee for that also.
-
I had enough lumber to jerry rig a ramp today but the 10 footers were already on tomorrows shopping list.
-
Well, I've got a nearly new Toro sitting here, infact it's only been used twice and is still under full warranty, but after cleaning up the last snowfall I can't use it anymore because the handle that controls the chute is outta whack now and I can't aim it anymore. I called the Toro dealership today and they said they'll come and pick it up and repair it under warranty , but to do that and then return it to me will cost me $100 which I'm certainly not gonna pay. I had to load it into the back of the pick-up this afternoon, which wasn't easy by myself seeing as it weighs 222 pounds, and tomorrow I'll make the 40 mile round trip to drop it off. They said it'll take about a week to fix it...if they've got the parts....then I'll have to do another 40 mile round trip to pick it up. Sure hope winter doesn't get nasty for a week or so

Been snowing hard over this way since 4:00 AM and sposed to turn to freezing rain later on today.
-
I guess our luck is changing Brian cause it looks like us snowless snobs may be getting up to a foot of it on Sunday. Perhaps I better go find the feather duster and clean off the blower
-
Yeah your right for sure Dan, we've just been very lucky so far and our turn will be coming real soon.

I'm starting to feel guilty here as I sit looking out the window to a bright sunny day with barely 2" of snow on the ground that's left over from a week ago while I read reports of all you folks up to your armpits in snow. My almost new snowblower is still sitting in the garage getting all covered in dust and cobwebs and I'm thinking of calling the Toro dealer to see if I can get a re-fund on it.

You've got a fantastic attitude towards all this stuff Mike and you're positive thinking is gonna take you all the way thru it. Your an inspiration to alot of folks !!

Ice fishing for Muskie and Bass - ya never know!
lew replied to Harrison's topic in General Discussion
Clear Lake had ice around the edges yesterday and from where I'm sitting right now it looks like it's frozen all the way across Phil. Amazing what can happen overnight once the temps drop. -
Kool gesture that he would definetely have appreciated

Steve is definetely the master of BIG Quinte pickeral in the fall. Some nice fish there boys.

Thanks for posting that Matt, it's a great story and another awesome fish in the boat for Dale.

Seems like lots of gobblers around right now and I see them in the fields just about everytime I head down the road. I had 3 in the yard a couple days back and 7 more at the end of the driveway this morning when I was heading into town. My bud down the road called yesterday to say he had 19 in his front yard
-
Now THAT'S some serious snow clearing gear
-
With the exception of 3-4" we got last week here in the Kawarthas, we've totally dodged the bullet so far this winter. The snowblower is sitting in the garage collecting cobwebs but I can't imagine that'll last too much longer.

I herniated a disc in my back in '99 which compressed the sciatic nerve and although I never had any back pain from it, the pain in my right leg was unbelievable. I tried physio, chiro & even accupunture but nothing worked, infact it continually worsend. I ended up having surgery after a year of agony which was the easiest part of the entire experience. Surgery on Friday, home on Sunday and almost pain free within a week and back to a normal life again. With any luck they can fix you up without surgery Eric, but if it becomes nessesary, you may hopefully come out of it as well as I did.

I drove up the Selwyn Rd. yesterday Jer and noticed Chemong is pretty well frozen right across although there's still open spots around. Clear is wide open except for some ice along the shore. Gettin to be that time of year.
