Atta boy Bud, a real beauty fish for sure !!!! A great way to wind down your season Dax !!
-
That's my go-to bait for shallow water, night time trolling in the spring on Quinte also. Good bait !!

Hooking up with old friends is always good Steve and sounds like you boyz had a fun trip despite the tough fishing. Nice to hear the new ride worked as well as you figured it would too.

I'm another one that always uses the manufactures recommended fluids and filters. Might cost me a few more $$$$ over the years but I'm very fussy with all my stuff and feel it's worth using exactly what they call for. I do all my own maintanance on my outboards and lawn equipment and whatever else, infact I bought a new John Deere tractor this year and just did the winterizing on it last week with their products. I also buy a new truck every 3-5 years and always have the maintanance done at the dealership. Again, it probably costs more but they use the proper stuff and it's just peace of mind, plus they could never give me a hassle over a warranty issue related to lubrication if they do the work. Just my thoughts anyhoo.

I'm a lucky guy and have absolutely everything I need as far a fishing gear goes, infact I never bought a single piece of gear this year.

I was also in RCSCC Scarborough many many years ago and then went into the Navy. Your son is making an excellent choice and it's a decision he'll be happy he made for the rest of his life.
-
I think that's it for LSC this year Joey, but we'll set it up for next year again and try to pick a date when all the regulars can get together. Pete had to miss it this year too.

I've always been very proud of the fact that when things got nasty so many members of my family put their lives on hold and went to war to make things good again. My dad left the farm in Saskatchewan in 1940 and joined the Navy to do his part. He spent most of his time escorting the convoys across the ocean and trying to keep the U-Boats away from the merchant ships. They did a great job but still lost many many men and ships to torpedoes. That's Dad on your right, covered in coal dust. He normally worked as a stoker in the engine room, but when a sub was found his job was dropping depth charges. He served 5 years on the oceans doing his part and helping defeat the Nazi's This is HMCS Kitchener, the Corvette that Dad spent most of his time on. When Dad joined the Navy in 1940, his older brother joined the Army and also spent the next 5 years fighting for our freedom. Luckily, they both survived relatively unscathed. Their father, my grandfather and one of the best guys I've ever known, fought with the British Army in the trenches of Europe in WW1 and told me stories that were almost too horrible to believe. The things those guys went thru is something that should never happen to a human being. He was hit by shrapnell at one point and carried pieces of it in his body till the day he died. This is my mothers brother Leonard who used to deliver air mail around rural Ontario before the war. When the war started he joined the RCAF and became a bomber pilot but was sadly killed, along with his entire crew when their plane went down. Another uncle on Mom's side fought for the British Army in WW11 and was captured by the Japanese and was then routinely beaten, tortured and starved for the next couple years. When the war ended, he weighed 1/2 of what he did when he was captured. Sorry for the long rambling post but on November 11th it's important to think back on all those folks who gave so much so that we can live the way we do today. As I said previously, I'm VERY proud of the part my family has played in making the world a better place For many years I participated in, or attended the Memorial Services in Toronto. I'm now living in the Kawarthas and will be attending the Peterboro service this morning. Wherever you live, if your off today or can spare an hour, the old Vets would be honoured to see you at the service in your town paying your respects and saying THANKS.

A definate fall beaut !! Congrats to your bud.

We missed you & Paul down at St. Clair this weekend Joey, but it looks like you had a great time anyways. Congrats on the musky !!

We do have a few pileated woodpeckers around here that I see quite frequentely, infact I had 3 of them sitting in a tree on the front lawn awhile back, but I honestly wouldn't think they'd be able to do that much damage to a 30' tree. I must admit though, I'd rather have either porkies or woodpeckers living next door to me than bears
-
hmmmm, porcupines eh ?? Never thought about them, but there's plenty of them around here, but would a porky do that much damage to a tree, even if it's dead ?? If you look close at picture #4 those scratches are 4-5 inches deep. I know there's bears in the area as I've found several piles of scat within 200' of the house over the summer.
-
I found this dead tree in the woods just a couple hundred yards from the house and assume it's scratches from a black bear. I've seen bear scratches before but never this deep or even this high in a tree. Their about 4 inches deep near the ground and go up about 30 feet high. Some wood chips at the base of the tree and while not visible there's a big area where the leaves have been crushed down by the bear walking around. Some deep marks Smore All the way to the top, about 30' high Just thought some may be interested.

Mike's a friend of mine and I use some of his baits and can guarantee their top of the line quality. Awesome lures !!

I'm leaving here in an hour (15 miles north of P'Boro) and towing the boat down to LSC for the weekend and just looked outside and it's starting to snow. Could be an interesting drive
-
I feel your pain Harry, I bought a brand new F-150 last December and 30 days later came out of a store and found a 24" scratch along the bottom of the rear door. I drove straight to the dealship where it cost me $300 to fix it. I always park at the far end of a plaza to try and avoid all the bozo's but somebody still found me.

Best of luck to your daughter Wayne.

We book motels a couple times a year and they nearly always ask for a card #, infact I'm booked into a motel in Chatham this weekend and just gave my # this morning. That's why I was surprised when the guy at Merlands said he didn't require my # and I even told my wife about it. Oh well, it'll be the last time I ever offer to give my $$$$ to those folks, I'm sure some other resort would appreciate it more.
-
We'll do the g2g next year Phil, cept we'll booked into a more reliable place. HH, the guy that messed up my reservation is probably the same guy that told you the day before he had no rooms available, then told Joey the same day he had 3
-
If you have a cabin booked at Merland Park this season you better call them ASAP to make sure. Read my post in the sticky section for the QUINTE G2G
-
Myself and Harrison had cabin 7 booked at Merland Park for the November G2G but somethings come up and we have to cancel, unfortunately. Probably a good thing though cause I just called Merland Park to cancel our reservation for cabin 7 only to be told that I must be mistaken because it's already booked to ANOTHER party and they have no record of me ever calling.........UN-BELIEVABLE !!!! I told her the reservation was made back in September and when I offered the guy my credit card number over the phone he told me they don't take card numbers but not to worry cause he marked me in the reservation book himself and I was all set. If your booked at Merlands, ya better check. They received some really bad OFC reviews a couple years ago for this very same crap but it would appear as if nothing has improved there at all.

Well, now I know what I'm gonna be eating on the loooong drive home Sunday evening Thanks Mike, hope to see you down there.

Thanks for all the suggestions boyz !! Travelling would be much easier if they'd stop tearing down all the service centers
