  1. There are trucks driving out there in places, but if you dont know where your going, dont go. Quinte has sketchy ice in a lot of areas at the best of times. S.
  2. That thing would bounce off hardwood. I have a 12lb maul that bounces off a good knot in sugar maple or ironwood. S.
  3. My biggest shield lake lakers have come about 30ft down....jigging or set lines. What I like to do is drop my jig down until I cant see it anymore when looking down the hole. Believe it or not, it works. You might only get one bite all day, but its always a good one. All the haliburton/bancroft area lakes, this works for me. S.
  4. Oh ya, im sure we can count on some flooding this spring. Trent severn will be a mess for sure, those guys cant get it right on a dry spring. We need it though, so bring it on. The more snow and cold the better if you ask me, and I have to deal with the snow every day from plowing, to shoveling, to blowing, to grooming. Im burnt, but its a pretty neat winter so far! S.
  5. Kids and fishin go together like peanut butter and jam S.
  6. Safe travels, Cliff. I hope someone has been clearing your snow at home. If not, stay in florida until at least april! S.
  7. Haha....how many halfs does a boat have? S,
  8. Its tough going out there. I was out yesterday in the storm, and im glad I didnt drive out. The walk was BRUTAL, but better than being stuck out there, alone, in the truck. Saw one full size truck go out, but he was moving! Not sure what happened when he stopped. He was dragging snow with the bottom of the truck the whole way. I hope you have good rubber, and know how to drive!! Bring a shovel and a tow strap for sure! S.
  9. That is cool! Nature at its finest! S.
  10. I was out perchin today and did well on my faithful jiggin rap. Ive tried those flies, but I must be doing something wrong. I was in 34 fow today. Got a few herring too. S.
  11. Kawarthas all the way! Moskoka is full of city riff raff. Kawarthas have some too, but still mostly good country folks here. The algae is nothing to worry about. Dont let that scare you away. Never heard of it on chemong or buckhorn anyways. You'll get more value for your money in the kawarthas too. I cant believe the prices of homes/cottages in muskoka. You could get a home with 100 acres here for the price of a dive in muskoka. Muskoka is catered to the city slickers. S.
  12. What was the cause of the fire? Weird for sure. Glad nobody was hurt. S.
  13. Ive been keeping an eye on a nice flocl of turkeys since the fall, but havent seen them the last couple weeks. This deep snow will be hard on them for sure. Its a tought winter. Survival of the fittest will certainly become a reality for some critters. It will only strengthen the one that make it. S.
  14. Beauty!!!
  15. Im very guilty of that myself lol S.
  16. Great report! Good mixed bag of fish there! S.
  17. ^^ Bingo! S.
  18. I usually stick with Tim Hales. He's a great guy. There are some shady operators on simcoe IMO, but Timmy has been running for a long time, and has the best equipment on the lake IMO. S.
  19. I use to always tell my friends and family to drive safe. Now I tell them to watch out for the idiots on the roads. On bad weather days, I stick to the worst roads possible. Less idiots, and I have no problem driving in snow or on bad roads. I kinda like it.....its the rest of the idiots I worry about, not me. S.
  20. A co-worker just had a stradic fixed there. Had new gears, and handle installed, and a cleaning. Cost him $20. S.
  21. There is a public boat launch east of the bridge on the north shore. Can't think of the road name, but its the only one that runs along the water. You can't miss it. S.
  22. Cool! Love starcrafts boats! I think they're one of the best! S.
  23. You can shim those all you want, they're not gonna cut ice.
  24. I've done shallow, and deep lakes. The temp was pretty much the same throughout, with maybe a couple degrees variance, but never have I seen 52 degree water under the ice. I'd say the camera's thermometer was messed up at that depth....but who knows. S.
