  1. Bottom line is they were going WAY TOO FAST, and someone died. 5ont be stupid. Slow down out there. You could die. I was at VB yesterday, and even some of the people going across to the island were just flying. Glare ice, with a bit of water on it. People just dont get it I guess. S.
  2. Meh...nothing crazy here. I have 80l boiling now. Almost done. Im thinking its going to be a slow year. We need more sun, and warmer temps. We'll see I guess. You guys are doing well. 60 gallons from 50 taps is REALLY good....i think anyways. Good stuff! S.
  3. Sorry to hear this man! It sucks. Hardest thing ive ever had to do. Keep your chin up. You'l" get thru this, and the pooch will always be remembered. S.
  4. Snowing here, but the sap is running, so i'll take it. S.
  5. I have a buddy with a place on big gull. Beauty country, big lake. The fishing is good if you know where to be, and when, but some say its tough. Not for lack of fish though, my buddy slays eyes in there. Great bass too. S.
  6. How do you keep track of all those buckets? You have a numbering system or some other way to keep a count? I need an evaporator. I could run my whole place on lines, gravity fed, so easy. 100 trees no problem. Im gonna have to break the bank and get 'er done one of these days. S.
  7. Really?? what the hell?? I really hate to say it, but if your travelling that fast on the ice in a vehicle, what do you expect to happen?? I don't even call that a tragic accident. S.
  8. Killbear, Killarney, Silent lake, Bon Echo..... Does it have to be a provincial park? Why not go to kawartha highlands, or leslie frost (or whatever they call it now) up near dorset? Almost like crown camping, but you have to book, and pay for a site. Kind of remote, depending on your experience I guess. S.
  9. I'm considering an older truck. I was looking at the RAV's as well, but reviews are mixed. My mom has one that has been trouble free for years, but its a 4 banger, so won't tow my boat.....no good to me. S.
  10. I'm thinking I won't even get close to my boat for at least another month. The snow in my yard is nuts!! I'll keep drillin holes until then though, tons of ice left! S.
  11. The forester has just as much clearance as a RAV. They drive nicer too. I had a forester XT for years. Great car, but I had a few issues with the turbo. If your going the forester route, I'd stay away from the turbo IMO. Awesome vehicles though. I'm in the market for something bigger now. Been looking for weeks, and still undecided. So much new stuff that's not really "Proven". I don't know what way to go. S.
  12. Nice haul Lakerguy! I might get a couple litres this week if the weather heats up a little during the day. S.
  13. I dont own a shimano reel thats less than 5 yrs old. They all work great. S.
  14. I heard they rolled the truck. Would love to know what really happened. Speed? Its not easy to roll a truck on a frozen lake.... S.
  15. Id be looking for a box trailer too. It will come in handy for lots of other things, as well as the canoe. S.
  16. I ended up with almost a litre jar full. Really dark though, I usually get really light syrup first. Even the sap had a bit of a yellowish tinge to it. Tastes great though!! The 35l I have collected now is clear.... S.
  17. Its slowly starting to ramp up. Good haul Twocoda! S.
  18. Had a decent run yesterday again. I havent collected it, but im guessing 30-40l from 23 taps. Its looking like small batches for me with this weather. Its freakin snowing here again now..... S.
  19. I collected 35l of sap on tuesday.....looks like its going to be a while before we get another decent run, so I'm going to boil it tonight. Might get a litre if I'm lucky. S.
  20. Electrical supply shop. Any more than $25 your getting ripped off.
  21. IMO the cracks are better than ive ever seen them this year. Always be wary of cracks. Any lake...any time of year. S.
  22. Yep, boil it outside, get it close to done, then finish it inside. I'd tap more trees but I dont have the means to boil it all. I have over 100 trees on my 2 acres. I keep saying next year i'll invest in a better set up, but it never seems to happen. To be honest, my 25 taps is enough. I just enjoy the process, the time outdoors, and hangin out with friends and family. Its also a great excuse to tip a few back LOL S.
  23. I got a little more today, but still not enough to bother collecting. I use a hand drill, no messin with batteries S.
  24. I tapped my 25 on friday. It was running a bit, but nothing crazy. All ice in the buckets now. Hopefully get a little this week to get things started. S.
  25. 30-35ft was good, but I havent been over there in a couple weeks now. S.
