misfish Posted July 25, 2014 Report Posted July 25, 2014 (edited) Riemer signed again.. What up with that? I guess I would sign for 4 mil for two years too. Easy money. Saves on buying lottery tickets. Edited July 25, 2014 by Misfish
kickingfrog Posted July 25, 2014 Report Posted July 25, 2014 The problem isn't/wasn't Riemer. The problem was how the coach used him. As to the contract, he was a restricted "free" agent. The Leafs had all the leverage. On the open market Riemer gets even more. BTW, The 50/50 was something like $700,000 last night at the Eskimo's game.
leaf4 Posted July 26, 2014 Report Posted July 26, 2014 More than likely this is just to keep reimer a leaf until they can get something in return for him
BillM Posted July 26, 2014 Report Posted July 26, 2014 I like Reims as a backup, but they gotta give him some ice time.
Dan668 Posted July 26, 2014 Report Posted July 26, 2014 I don't think he nets more on the open market, i can see him being traded, which is why they didn't take him to arbitration, cheaper contract more enticing. Just a thought.
kickingfrog Posted July 26, 2014 Report Posted July 26, 2014 His contract is "cheaper" for trade bait but he doesn't get more on the open market?
kickingfrog Posted July 26, 2014 Report Posted July 26, 2014 I like Reims as a backup, but they gotta give him some ice time. You mean treating him like a mushroom and then blaming him for not being a flower?
Dan668 Posted July 26, 2014 Report Posted July 26, 2014 His contract is "cheaper" for trade bait but he doesn't get more on the open market? His stock is pretty poor right now, i don't see why any team would interested. The contract signed looks better than what he was asking for going to arbitration. An easier contract to take on for a team like Winnipeg to rid of him
BillM Posted July 26, 2014 Report Posted July 26, 2014 You mean treating him like a mushroom and then blaming him for not being a flower? Pretty much
Dave Bailey Posted July 29, 2014 Report Posted July 29, 2014 I wish I had known this guy, seems like a really fun chap: http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2014/07/28/terry-siebert-leafs-obituary_n_5626699.html?utm_hp_ref=tw
leaf4 Posted July 29, 2014 Report Posted July 29, 2014 Leafs signed Dan Winnik today, good signing in my eyes. From the western conference and plays a gritty game and can produce, great replacement for mclement, and hopefully is a staple in the lineup keeping Orr and Mclaren out so the leafs can play a fast paced physical game. which mike santorelli will undoubtedly help with too
lookinforwalleye Posted July 29, 2014 Report Posted July 29, 2014 Produce what 49 goals in about 500 games...I thought that's what they signed what's his face for last year grit and production!
solopaddler Posted July 29, 2014 Report Posted July 29, 2014 This signing should round out their bottom 15 nicely.

BillM Posted August 1, 2014 Report Posted August 1, 2014 The habs: How not to handle your only potential superstar. You can't be surprised
kickingfrog Posted August 1, 2014 Report Posted August 1, 2014 I am actually. Given his offensive potential and their lack of scoring I think they took a stand (for the second time now) with the wrong player.
kickingfrog Posted August 1, 2014 Report Posted August 1, 2014 Apparently Dustin Johnson went to the habs school of relationship management.
lookinforwalleye Posted August 2, 2014 Report Posted August 2, 2014 I probably would have handled it differently but I can somewhat understand the GM on this given all the long term big money deals teams have handed out in the past only to have to do the buy-out thing a couple of years down the road. If I was the GM I probably would have signed him long term a couple of years ago and then traded him, I am not PK`s biggest fan!
jbailey Posted August 2, 2014 Report Posted August 2, 2014 I am actually. Given his offensive potential and their lack of scoring I think they took a stand (for the second time now) with the wrong player. agreed.
kickingfrog Posted August 2, 2014 Report Posted August 2, 2014 So how much money does Mtl figure they saved by spending 90 minutes telling an arbitrator (and PK himself) that PK wasn't worth the money they then signed him for less then 24 hours later?
