My original plan was to head north with Kenzy31 (Jesse) to search for some back lakes but with the weather being less then favourable for icefishermen, we had to cancel. I got a call late in the week from my buddy, Todd saying that he was pulling his boat out of the barn and wanted to know if I was in. "I'm in".....flu and all.
We got to the launch at around 8am in Barrie and were surprised to see all the boats. Guess we weren't the only mental ones. We got the boat in the water and made the 13km run out to the mouth of the bay. Conditions were pretty good, with it getting choppy only when you leave the bay due to the south winds.
The fishing wasn't too bad. We ended up with 2 lakers, which went back and 3 whiteys for the table. All whiteys were taken with a Williams and the lakers with a white tube.

Here's the porn......

Todd's whitey....a nice long one. 36" according to his tape. hahahaaha

...and here's the tank I got. We figure it went about 15lbs.

Wow! Very nice, congrats! How many FOW did the whities come out of?

That whitey might not be 36" but it's certainly 27+ which is a good fish in anybody's book.

Thanks for sharing.

Roy,

we got the whiteys in 128FOW. Felt like we were reeling forever to retrieve them. :)

Sweet. LAKERS A TANK.

What was in the stomach of that fat whitie? GOBYS?

Brian,

I thought it would be crammed with either gobies or minnows but it was just it's air bladder that was full.

Nice haul guys !!! Great when you can hit open water in the middle of January !!!! And in a boat too ....cheers
A boat is usually the best way to hit open water in the middle of January. LOL. Just messing with you

Congrats on the nice fish. My boat is stored but that would have been very cool.

I am assuming you achored?

Yeah, we were anchored. My arms and back are still sore from pulling up 160ft of rope and steel. lol

Gotta love boat fishing in mid January. Nice fish too. I have never caught nor really targeted lakers and whities. Hope to get out on Simcoe for them when/if the ice gets good enough out that far.

Cheers
