What Do You Do?

Retired 7 years ago, I have been fortunate to have some interesting occupations. Came to Canada in the 70's to manage the Canadian office of a instrumentation company. Left and started our own businesses in Video, electronics, appliances, army surplus, pizza and ice cream. Worked 7 days a week for almost 20 years with a few weeks off here and there. Since retiring we still own and rent apt, and commercial facilities.

The nice thing about being retired is you can do what you want when you want to do it. I got bored doing nothing so now I work with a friend erecting and dismantling TV and radio towers as well as sat. dishes. Work in the office on weekends during summer at the campground 5 min from the house, also do maintence , grass cutting, snow plowing etc there on the off season as well as doing some volunteer jobs for them ( they are part of the United Church Camp system ). Work for both elections Canada ( guess like it sounds I'll be working sometime this next year ) as well as elections Ontario ( will definitely be working for them come fall of 2007 ). And lastly been repairing boat props for the last 8 years but I may stop come this spring.

....Well that's intersting Corey, perhaps I know him since I've worked in the area for most of my 28 years. The mill I'm currently on (4 stand) rolls the steel for the Z line and I drive the crane that loads them up for the Z line. :)

I am Corey D, my dad is Brian D...you may very well know him.

Ohhh how I loathed Mr. & Mrs Everybody... When I saw her on the sled I prayed she would run into a tree... When I saw him with a Power Washer I Prayed he'd use the pencil attachment and put it to his temple...

There were some INTERSTING discussions on the old board concerning those commercials LOL

Did I mention I LOATHED THEM?? LOL

Almost as bad as though HeadON! commercials "HeadOn apply it directly where it hurts, Head on Apply it directly where it hurts"

ARGH!

Now I gots the rage!!!

LOL Gerritt! I didn't pick the couple...our advertising agency did (BTW....they were recently fired and we have a new one). The scary thing is that even though they annoyed lots of ppl, the were VERY effective for us for sales. The "wear out rate" on them was at around 17%...which is average, but time for a change. Anyhow, I just picked items that I thought were innovative enough to show on TV. I'm doing a different job now, but for a few years, that was my main responsibility.

Bad or good, they gave us instant recognition...which is very hard to do on TV nowadays. Home Depot tried to run ads like ours....when we interviewed them, most thought it was a Canadian Tire ad!!!

Anyways...we were going to have a side story where they got divorced over all the stuff he bought at CT over the years...just to keep them going a little longer and to show that we had a sense of humour over it all.

For the past 16 years, I've been working as an I.T. recruiter/account manager = Headhunter (street name)

I'm fortunate enough to work with people, they are my main commidity, from various walks of life, education and personal ambitions.

I have experience providing enployment opportunities to individuals from entry level, all the way to CIO. My area of expertese lies mostly within the GTA, involving both the private and public sector. I deal with skills that include, but not limited to;

programming, dba, networking and operations, business analysis etc...

I place skilled professionals in both contract (term) and permanent positions.

I also offer training/counseling in resume writing, interview coaching and career planning.

And here's the best part... my services are free to candidates, I charge the company that hires from me a fee.

www.arc1.ca is our company web site.

Interesting occupations to say the least!

I've been in the Typesetting /Advertising business since 1968. I've worked on major brands like Canadian Tire, Lexus (Canadain launch), Wal-Mart, Astra Pharmaseutical, Harvey's, MacDonalds, and many, many more.

For the last 7+ years I've been doing travel magazines for Ontario Tourism including 'Fish Ontario' and 'Guide to Eating Ontario Sport Fish' and also the Bay.

Question for ccmtcanada, Do you work at Yonge and Eglinton? My daughter is a Strategy & Advertising Integration, Specialist there. If you are there and look north at the building next to you I'm on the floor with the balcony facing Yonge Street.

And I had friends at the Mr. and Mrs. Fix it agency and also have friends at your new agency!

Motorhead & Fishindevil you guys have probably used some of our equipment.

Prior to that I repaired barcode scanners and weigh scales for the Point-of-Sale industry for 12 years. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

Would like one day to become a licensed Electrician but to work as an apprentice would mean a drastic cut in pay

Work for the same company as UF, Technicolor Creative Services, as an editor. Working on Degrassi: The Next Generation and Instant Star for CTV are my main projects. Today I'm working on Falcon Beach which airs on Global. My first job in the TV business was working for Bob Izumi's Real Fishing Show as his cameraman and editor. Best job I ever had. :thumbsup_anim::thumbsup_anim::thumbsup_anim:

Been cooking for 15 years now in Kitchener and Toronto

Currently (and for the last 7 years) I'm the Executive Chef For a local Hotel here in K-Town.

Great Job actually...Creative control, fast paced, good crew, decent benefits & pay.

I'll prolly stick around here till I either save up enough dough to open my own resort north of here, or find a decent paying gig on the water somewere
