Fishing out of a canoe is great for many reasons. You can get in some tight areas, you're stealth, very portable (overland), note the salty rod holder.....12 volt battery under the seat hooked to a minkota not a problem.

Wow guys! Thanks for all the tips and suggestions plus the entertaining debate. I think taking some pictures and packing the fish properly is my best bet. I don't forsee coming across a CO in the area I plan to travel as it's quite remote however I want to be sure I'm following the rules and in this instance there appears to be a grey area within the regs. Quick question for all the experts on our Ontario Fishing Regulations. Heading out for some trout the last week of September and as we know the season closes on the last Saturday of the month. If I catch and keep trout on the Friday am I legally allowed to pack them out two days later on Sunday when I leave? Or do the fish have to be back safe at home in the freezer before the season closes? I'm curious as I'd like to bring some home but I want to be sure I'm within my rights to do so. Any thoughts? Like Jedi said there are fish to be had but the weeds are thick this time of year. Pike, bass and perch are what I typically catch in the Berg. Topwater is not a bad idea as it will save you time untangling weeds from your subsurface lures. Nugs

Thought I'd post a quick review of my 2007 fishing season. To start, my annual trip to Algonquin in May. A few specks... Several more specks... Fat Laker caught in 3 feet of water on an X-Rap near a waterfall in the early morning. Wasn't expecting this fella. Towed my canoe around for almost 1/2 an hour before he gave up. Next up a few pike from my local spot in June... Visited Muskoka with my family for a week in September and the largemouth fishing was on fire... Here's my pops with a typical largie... Last trip of 2007 was another visit to Algonquin. Found the remnants of a cabin on a small island. Only item left standing over the years... A shot of our island residence for the week... Heading out to see a buddy on the weekend who just moved to Eden Mills. I noticed the Eramosa River runs right through town and was curious if any members have fished it and could offer up some insight. Should I be targeting trout or is this a bass/pike laden river. I always hang the food way up the tree. Whether it be in a barrell or a pack it's better to be safe than sorry. It's really not that much of a pain with a good truckers knot, it easily comes undone but is as strong as can be. The only time food is on the ground is when I'm camping on a small island where I can see if the area is truly bear free. Corn Nug

I too got caught in the downpour while fishing for local pike with my pops. I'd say we got a good 2" of rain so far. My grass is already starting to green up. Corn Nug

The creeks around my area are at an all time low too. Some areas are totally dry, nothing but rip rap to be seen and ponds are down a metre or so. Crazy. Time for a rain dance..... Corn Nug
