Garyv Posted December 30, 2006 Report Posted December 30, 2006 (edited) Retired 7 years ago, I have been fortunate to have some interesting occupations. Came to Canada in the 70's to manage the Canadian office of a instrumentation company. Left and started our own businesses in Video, electronics, appliances, army surplus, pizza and ice cream. Worked 7 days a week for almost 20 years with a few weeks off here and there. Since retiring we still own and rent apt, and commercial facilities. The nice thing about being retired is you can do what you want when you want to do it. I got bored doing nothing so now I work with a friend erecting and dismantling TV and radio towers as well as sat. dishes. Work in the office on weekends during summer at the campground 5 min from the house, also do maintence , grass cutting, snow plowing etc there on the off season as well as doing some volunteer jobs for them ( they are part of the United Church Camp system ). Work for both elections Canada ( guess like it sounds I'll be working sometime this next year ) as well as elections Ontario ( will definitely be working for them come fall of 2007 ). And lastly been repairing boat props for the last 8 years but I may stop come this spring. Edited December 30, 2006 by Garyv

There were some INTERSTING discussions on the old board concerning those commercials LOL Did I mention I LOATHED THEM?? LOL Now I gots the rage!!! LOL Gerritt. LOL Gerritt! I didn't pick the couple...our advertising agency did (BTW....they were recently fired and we have a new one). The scary thing is that even though they annoyed lots of ppl, the were VERY effective for us for sales. The "wear out rate" on them was at around 17%...which is average, but time for a change. Anyhow, I just picked items that I thought were innovative enough to show on TV. I'm doing a different job now, but for a few years, that was my main responsibility. Bad or good, they gave us instant recognition...which is very hard to do on TV nowadays. Home Depot tried to run ads like ours....when we interviewed them, most thought it was a Canadian Tire ad!!! Anyways...we were going to have a side story where they got divorced over all the stuff he bought at CT over the years...just to keep them going a little longer and to show that we had a sense of humour over it all.
