  1. - some amazing meals coming out of here still!... Been a while since life has offered the opportunity to share... but today is a special day for those of us with connections to the China and Asia - and with both my kids coming from there by birth, recognising and celebrating their culture is important. G shares not only my passion for the outdoors, and fishing but also cooking... If you are lucky enough to live in Toronto, the celebrations that bring in the Chinese New Year are incredible - I highly recommend stepping out and experiencing it. Food plays a big part. . so a trip to the local chinese food market was made today.. round 1 - home made dumplings - pork, spring onions mushrooms and seasonings in wonton wrappers by G steamed for authenticity accompanied by - Round 2 - pork lo mein with shrimp, garlic and ... To all our OFC members celebrating the Year of the Rooster today - Gung Hai Fa Cai

  3. cool report - that pike shot through the hole is congrats on the PB
  4. Starcraft or Alumacraft. Love my Suzukis. You don't mention budget which is a big factor. I had a 16 foot Starcraft walk through and a 50 4 stroke. It served most needs, even with four in it - other than big water. Not enough freeboard or power for that. If you think you want to do the big Lakes with 4, I would recommend at minimum an 18 fter with a minimum of a 115. Aluminium is cheaper to tow and power - so those are factors to consider too. You can make some sweet deals this time of year if you aren't set on a single brand or set up. Look and ask for the non current models - they don't always put them in the show, and see if you can get a couple guys bidding against each other.. I made a sweet deal on mine a couple years ago - a month after the show with a guy I met at the show..... good luck
  5. sweet family getaway dude - look forward to the salt water fishporn show.....noticed your comment on the knots - I've bee slowly expanding my knot skills and came across this site. (and this is not intended to be a hijack..........) http://www.animatedknots.com/indexfishing.php?LogoImage=LogoGrog.png&Website=www.animatedknots.com#ScrollPoint
  6. I'd blame all the elections we had in the last couple years - too much hot air out there in the atmosphere - before that one, personally.....
  7. I would likely want to know the implications for insurance and highway traffic act violations of towing in excess of the vehicle capacity. As a commercial operator, I know it has some pretty significant fines and points associated with it. With or without brakes, I suspect there might be some issues here if you were ever involved in an accident, regardless of fault, (ones a lawyer would find very attractive for the other-side, and one your insurance company likely would not respond to). Wouldn't be a good outcome in a long weekend blitz such as the OPP run either.
  8. this one has a nice feature - you can upload pretty well any map to it - lots of on ine sources for topo maps if you are willing to use google for a bit http://gpstracklog.com/2010/06/garmin-gpsmap-78s-review.html
  9. Great Pic Brian - Merry Christmas everybody.
  10. If you're in KW - go see Jos down at Angling outfitters. Usually this time of year he is running seminars 1 night a week. Make sure you have a bit of time if you plan on asking him some questions about electronics though,,, he's not one to hold his thoughts in on any fishing related subject, and as for electronics,,,,,, well he does kinda like them.
  11. exactly - seriously? OMG, next they'll charge you for the take out containers. what will we do?

  18. nice outing and great lookin' meal. Good to hear the little man is OK - he'll be hooking those monster fish through the ice in no time. It's a long week when that happens - G had one earlier this year too.
  19. congrats on the new site. Do you actually sleep?
  20. very cool. Only chatted with John a couple times before he was taken from the world, far too early. He was a true gent. Great story, nice fish.
  21. I have both. Overall, I prefer the Cannon's - 1 hand operation to change angle is a real benefit. The ability to rotate 360 is also great when you are running multiple lines out the back , or off the side. With the Bert's, the only way to change the angle of presentation is to remove and reset. With the Cannon its just a button and a twist. That being said - 2 issues I had with Cannons - 1 the rod protector rubber tops aren't glued on - they will come off. I have silicon-ed all of mine on now. 2 - I had one of them where the rotating base started to separate and fail. I have heard this happening to others as well. Cannon was great for the rubber top, replacing it at no cost when I called, and Angling Outfitters replaced the one where the base was failing, no cost, no questions asked.Just make sure you keep your receipt for warranty.
