nice meeting you yesterday Meegs - I was hoping some of our jigs would be there. Looking forward to trying them out this year. The dollar is down, what 30%? Why are the prices up 60% , especially during a show, I was hoping for better. I had hoped to pick up a couple decent rods at reasonable discounts.- discontinued Walleye Elite - $179??? left with money in my pocket I'll be interested to hear your thoughts on it Mike. That was pretty well exactly my thoughts when I held one. The rep says they are one of the strongest rods on the market? "The real carrot fibres they use makes them that way." I'm thinking, I get a big fish on one of these and he takes me in the weeds it'll be a snap to bring it in. as in snap the rod in half and do a hand retrieve.

wicked - love the last half where you're fishing with the "short" rod. I'd have had to do a little more editing at the point where it snapped than you had to . At least it wasn't the St Croix.

Guess I don't watch enough media promotion? These things were selling like crazy at the spring fishing and boat show. The felt really light, but I didn't really see them as feeling overly sensitive? Naturally the rep claims you can feel everything through them. People were buying 2 at a time. Their pricing convinced me that I could live without one. At least till I find out more. I always used to do that. But recently the difference between new and used ist what it used to be, And now I know what happened the first 60,000 k. And for the OP - I had the older (ugly) version of the santa fe with the 2.5 litre. It had a zero interference engine - which resulted in some pretty expensive situations. The first one was caused by (we suspect, but it was never confirmed) a dishonest dealer who did most of the maintenance, Either didn't change the timing belt, or did it poorly, 3000 k after that service, the belt broke and there was major damage to the engine. Hyundai did cover most of the cost. But, about 5000 k after that an engine bearing failed and that destroyed the rebuilt engine. I'm pretty sure that bearing suffered damage in the first incident and it was just a matter of time. That one was lly my cost. Put a used motor in at a cost of just over 3k. I only pulled my 16 footer with that vehicle a couple times, and it was pretty much all it could do. When I upgraded the boat, I upgraded the vehicle. Now run a Rdigeline with a cap. Gives me 4 seats and a ton of safe cargo space. Pulls the 18 ftr with two motors, tackle, camping gear you name it no problem Rated for 5000 lbs. Same frame as the Pilot I believe, I have over 220k kms on it. Replaced on lower control arem and one exhaust gas valve. Averages between 10 litres per k highway and 12.8 city solo, and 17 per towing the boat. Rides like a dream.

While I haven't tried the airbrush option yet, I think that is where you will end up based on the last comment. I have tried powder coats with just about every other method, permanent markers (although I haven't tried nail polish yet?) and while they do an OK job, its really difficult ( impossible for me) to get the fine detail I want. I have caught fish on some, and many may say that the lures catch more fisherman that fish, but hey, if your gonna do it, I believe it oughta look like what I would be willin' to pay for. When I find an airbrush kit for the right price it's on the list.

you're right, OI I am fortunate. We have been fishing together now for 5 years, and when it comes to the teamwork in the boat, we are actually pretty well always talking to each other when we are hooked up. If you look you can see G identify a boat that is gonna cross our path about half way through and we discuss changing heading and speed, a quick flick of my arm for direction and we start to cut to port, and a few seconds later we go to dead slow. Its a pleasure to work that well with anyone in the boat, to be fortunate enough that it is my son just makes it all the better. right now we are both in count down mode till the first spring outing.

My deepest condolences. I was just thinking this morning, been a while since I had seen some of Joey's great posts, so full of photos and the love of life.

yeah, he knows his way around a boat better than most folks we see at the ramps, regardless of age. Most ramps, by the time I have paid the fee he has the rod loaded, the fish finder ready, the radio on with the antenna up and all the straps and transom saver off and put away. He sets up the riggers, the trolling motor or plays the fish like a pro. Got his boat license 3 years ago now, and we are working on how to tell when the motor is trimmed properly by ear and feel. I know if he's in the boat we'll play the big ones to win.

yup, count on it. -I'll let ya know once she's out of storage. Installing a new motorguide with spot lock soon - once that is good to go so am I. Just need some sun and plus 0 temps to make it workable for my fingers.
