December deer hunt question. (controlled hunt)
porkpie replied to misfish's topic in General Discussion
Your controlled hunt tag will tell you what you can harvest depending on the WMU. Where we hunt it is either sex. -
On the face of it, it appears to be a reasonable deal if there is a bit of room for negotiation. Arctic cat makes a pretty decent sled, and those old cats where pretty reliable. To bad they can't make a decent ATV. The long track allows for a bit of a premium and the cargo basket is a nice feature. I would look at paying around $1200. A compression check is pretty much mandatory, and have your buddy with some knowledge look it over! Nice ice fishing machine, of course the listing is in Kelowna BC though. Not sure how much ice fishing you get in out that way!

I picked up a liquid cooled Polaris Indy classic 500 touring. I wanted a fan , but the deal came through family and it was too good to pass on, but I have an ATV for conditions that could beat the sled so I suppose that will do!!

How about the Lowrance Mark 4 fish finder.
porkpie replied to davey buoy's topic in General Discussion
Colour is really really nice to have, but for under $100? How bad could it be? -
Perhaps mine is the trifecta. I can't remember the name, it's a soft skin, not aluminum. Whatever you call it, excellent product!

Another vote for the Xtang trifold. Cheap and easy to remove, folds up nicely and is lightweight. If you just want to cover the bed and aren't worried about locking up, it's the way to go. Myself and 5 of my friends use them on our trucks, all without issue!

He made the right call. They know something's up!

No contest as far as I'm concerned. I had carpeting in my first Lund. The second one was vinyl, and it was way better. I had no issues right until freeze up, and it was so easy to keep clean! I have a smaller boat now, with an easily removable floor, but I covered it in vinyl. I like the idea of vinyl with snap in carpet though!

Crossing the border questions Black friday
porkpie replied to bow slayer's topic in General Discussion
On a lot of things I would agree, however I just shipped a few large ticket items for our kids to NY and will be picking up next week. Even with exchange and if I have to pay duty I will still be ahead almost a couple hun. And I get to go fishing too! There is no way I would do the Black Friday thing though. Insane!!! -
I am hoping this warm snap that is coming blows out any ice that has formed, and gets us back to where we should be. This weather is interfering with my duck hunting, and if things keep up it will soon be interfering with my steelheading. Things are looking grim, and I may have to travel to Georgian bay or Erie to hunt soon, my local water is freezing at an alarming rate, if it's not froze out already! The ice can get lost as far as I'm concerned, and come back mid January!

I haven't read a paper copy of anything in years other than a newspaper. I download to my phone or tablet and away I go! No snotty magazines for me!!

Now that's desperation. But I really do need to end up at the Cheektowaga cabelas as well, so it may happen LOL. Edited... Just read Cheektowaga forecast, 16 inches between now and tomorrow AM. Forget It, I'm staying home and finishing my drywall project!

Welp, there goes tommorows plans down the tubes!

I have both. A fishtrap guide for behind the ATV and a small popup for when I'm walking. I have no issues moving around with the popup. I actually sold my old flip over when I first got the popup, but then a deal on a flipover came along that was too good through a buddy, so I bought it as it was a 2 man. I really like the popup, and they are light and compact in the sled! As was mentioned, just make sure you drop a stake in the ice first, then put up your shelter. I have one ice screw that I attach a long rope too, that runs to the popup, and I use this one for setting up, then put a couple more screws in. When I want to move, it only takes a few minutes to pack up.

Thanks, I ended up ordering the BFG AT anyhow. I think they will last longer than the duratrac from all I've heard about the duratracs. Apparently it's an amazing tire that wears out pretty quick! My last set of BFG's were on my old Chevy for years, and still going strong when I sold it!
-
I checked into the duratracs at my local CT. They didn't even have any in the warehouse in stock F150 sizes. Told me it would be over a month before they could get hold of any. LOL, good deal on the grabbers!

Another vote for contact cement. I put the floor in my boat with it, as well as the deck for the bowmount. It's rock solid!

What do you do with your reel boxes and packaging...?
porkpie replied to adam lancia's topic in General Discussion
I often keep the boxes for the warranty period, but outside of that I chuck them. I definately keep all packaging for an unused item that I am not sure about for at least the duration of the return period. -
I have a bruin 350 4x4. It's an excellent machine, and it's never failed to start even after sitting for hours in -30 weather last winter. Rated to tow 1100lbs, but I've gone over that before for sure and it's done well. The yamaha auto transmission is as close to bulletproof as you can get in a belt drive. It does pretty well in up to a foot with a set of chains on the rear. If you hit slush your going to get hooped, but that is universal for almost any 350 class machine. Put a good warn winch on the front and chains on the back and you will get through a lot! Mine is an 05 and I'm very satisfied overall. Good luck!

You should meet him in person then. Similar god complex as to what most paramedics have LOL.

I have a 2 stroke 20hp yamaha and can do 25MPH gps with just me and a couple rods and a tackle bag, Starcraft SF14. I weigh 25lbs less than you. Seems a bit slow to me, that is comparable to the speed I was getting with a 15hp 2 stroke.

Niagara river whirlpool float fishing questions
porkpie replied to Cosmos's topic in General Discussion
I use 11 gram floats in the niagra. I know guys who run bigger, but I've never felt the need! Yes jig flys work well, particulary in white or white and black . Roe works great, and so do lures. A spinning reel will work just fine! -
A man with any self respect should be able to change a tire!
-
Just ordered the old standby BFG all terrains. My local dealer had a sale on and priced them so competitively that it was just about 150 more than grabbers and I've always had good luck with the BFG AT in the past!
