  1. Blame the politicians who voted for the bylaw, and the whiny little b!tches who complain about these things. If you are one of those whiny little b!tches, go flush your head in a toilet somewhere!
  2. Not likely. But I did have a symetre blow up on me right out of the box, first night of use. Only time I've ever had a problem with a shimano reel that wasn't abuse/excessive use related. Even their lower priced stuff is pretty durable! I have landed a couple of smaller Muskie on a stradic ci4 1000 series while pickerel fishing, and boy that reel is pretty smooth. Then again, I've landed dozens of incidental Muskie over 20 years on a diawa ss700 during spring pickerel opening, so I would expect at least as much from the stradic!
  3. Hope they get him out safely.
  4. When I was a teenager I received a custom wrapped loomis float rod from my Dad. Still fish it today, but only occasionally as the blank and the memories are irreplaceable.
  5. It's all about the budget man, going broke over fishing gear is definitely not worth it! Your making the right choice!
  6. Nothing wrong with Saharas. Really it's what you can afford that gets the job done without having to constantly replace cheap inferior equipment. There is a balance point for that, and a Sahara is probably it. Perhaps the symetre, if you need to pick a spot in the product line. When I was young I bought cheap, noticed that things broke, and I had to replace them often. I got smart , bought the best I could afford, which was middle road stuff that performed well without constantly breaking. When I got a bit older, I found suddenly I could afford a bit more of the high end stuff, so I bought some, and I probably didn't need to, but I wanted to so why not. Anyway, the message is buy the best you can afford, and if it works for you stick with it. If you eventually want the high end stuff, and you get to the point where it's no longer a budget killer to have a few nice toys, then fill your boots! You probably don't need it, but you only live once!
  7. To each their own.
  8. In use a standard battery charger with a 2A setting, no problems.
  9. I have a buddy with an Etec, they use hardly any oil. That said, I bought my 2 stroke based around my duck hunting. Most guys I've talked to with the 4 stroke version of my motor cannot maintain the same top speed with a heavy load in the boat. Why I don't know! Next time I repower though, it will likely be 4 stroke!
  10. Most say that a 2 stroke has more bottom end, and gives you a better hole shot, but the top end should be about the same. Last year when I wanted a new motor, I ended up searching high and low for a new old stock yamaha 2 stroke. If it weren't for duck hunting season and having to haul hundreds of extra pounds in the boat , I would've gone with the 4 for sure. If my boat was in excellent shape, and I had the cash then I would for sure upgrade from an 80's motor. The reliability factor was the major reason I sold my old outboard and bought new. I didn't want my 20 odd year old motor deciding to pack it in on me in cold November weather far from the launch. It was still reliable, but you never know! One thing to keep in mind is that this is the perfect time of year to try and scoop a deal on old stock boat/motor packages, but if you love your boat, may as well keep it!
  11. All of that only works if the guy in front of you is doing the same thing, or if your the first one up the hill! Most often you won't be, and will have to try and maneuver safely around those spinning their wheels on the hills. As I said before, I don't think they should be mandatory by any stretch of the imagination. Another guy here said that anyone who says winter tires are no better, and that it's all driving skill have likely never had a set. I'd say he is dead on correct. Winter tires aren't intended to allow you to drive faster, or outside of what conditions warrant. They are there to provide traction with the road. If a driver wants to kid themselves into believing winter tires are just a placebo, thats alright. But they are missing the point of the matter. Winter tires just make safe drivers safer! And they do it very well!
  12. I use snows on my SUV, and wouldn't have it any other way. The LT's I just put on our truck also have the snowflake, but I wouldn't call them a snow. Certainly have tons of traction though! I wouldn't be without snows or a true LT tire in winter, but I can't say I think it should be a law! Good tires are pretty much mandatory where I live though. Plenty of snowfall, and if you don't travel strictly the main artery, the sideroads are unlikely to see a plow for quite a while!
  13. Oh boy. I made that post based on many positive experiences with Garmin GPS's, I've owned 3. All of them have been flawless and easy to use for the time period they've served, up to and including my recent touch screen handheld garmin. It seems I'm not the only one on this site that has had a similar experience. We all have opinions based on experiences, it's cool with me if you don't like Garmin!! I did check out their sonar, and it definitely isn't for me. Anyway, this thread can be put out of its misery. I took Terry's advice and contacted West Marine Canada. I went out on a limb and bought the Raymarine A78. The price was decent and 3 year warranty to! Hopefully it will do what I want it to, and I'm pretty sure it will do a whole heck of a lot more than I want also! Thanks for everyone's input, deal done!
  14. It's just a musky, I like to catch them too, but I don't think they are the worlds greatest game fish. If it was a legal catch, then so be it. It's not my thing, but who am I to judge
  15. Not homemade, but my favorite are the Terrys mint chocolate oranges. I get 2 in my stocking every year!
  16. I am planning on a second boat just for fishing so I don't have to cram into my little hunting/fishing rig anymore. Once I spend that coin, there will be no more planned purchases for a few years. Other than hooks and bait, I have all the crap I can possibly use!
  17. On the contrary, I wanted opinions on Garmin sonars, I got some , and further up if you'd read the thread, I looked at one in person, and decided it didn't have what I was looking for. I've owned several Lowrance units over the years, and have never had an issue. Right now I'm looking at touch screens, and one thing that is a must for me is pinch to zoom. I'm so used to it with my tablet and phone, I don't even use a computer anymore unless I'm at work. I also don't like the fact that I can't get down image without side imaging on the lowrance. I would like the option to add SI at a later date, but being used to having down image, I want that right now. I'm not picking on your pet sonar, but the lowrance unit as it stands isn't what I'm looking for. Now I'm trying to figure out where I can look at that raymarine without driving down to the states. And I thought garmin was a bit of a unicorn in the freshwater sonar world lol!
  18. Sweet Daddy Siki used to come in to a shop I worked in years ago from time to time, nice dude, pretty quiet for a wrestler LOL!
  19. One bad experience, and the whole product line is crap. Ok then!
  20. Haven't watched for years, but Hacksaw Jim Duggan and the Junkyard Dog where my favorites!
  21. Well, I looked at the garmin this evening. Functionally it it not what I'm looking for, so it's out. Back to the drawing board. My buddy has the lowrance, it's alright, but my mind wasnt blown. The only one that really did much for me was a Raymarine unit that I saw in a cabelas in the US, talk about user friendly. I've just about settled on a new boat to drive in the spring, so something networkable would be nice. I might have to track down the raymarine. As for the dude with the comment about garmin GPS not being user friendly, I am guessing you haven't tried one of their touch units. I have one , and I don't think you could get much more user friendly!
  22. I don't know man, they are real big in the offshore markets, with a huge following, freshwater there isn't a lot of users it seems!
  23. Yes, thanks, mostly by the truly fridged weather I am steelhead fishing anyway, so not much of an issue. I fish from April to October in the boat, then it's either steelhead or hunting only anyway.
  24. With my buddy recently getting a touch screen sonar, and having played with it I now think I know what I want for Christmas. Lowrance is out, they don't even have pinch to zoom functionality, humminbird is too expensive, and I'm not willing to pay lowrance gen 3 prices that undoubtedly will have pinch to zoom when released. This brings me to garmin. Looking at the echo map. 70DV. Does anyone run a garmin unit? I've used nothing but lowrance or bird all my life. I'm interested in your experience with garmin sounders good or bad. With the recent news that garmin will soon be compatible with navionics, that suddenly makes them a prospect. All the info on saltwater forums is excellent, but I wonder if anyone has used their sounders in local water and your thoughts. I am very familiar with their GPS technology, and I don't doubt that part will be solid! Thanks!
  25. Lots of good luck with kijiji. If the item is priced right, it will move in less than a week. Your geographic location can also impact things. I live in no mans land, so often have to wait a little for a buyer to show up. If you price right, you will still have a few lowballer email offers, but a serious guy will show up with cash and after a bit of back and forth over a couple bucks, your item is gone! If you live centrally, have posted a good ad, and receive nothing but lowballers and crackpots, your price is off!
