Tks, my fishing buddy just bought one for $69. He missed the princess auto $65 deal. Good deal, but I'm still amazed how much heat my little buddy puts out in a big 2 man even in -15 weather. This thing should be a cooker.

Good idea, the rooster tail from my DI transducer was pissing me off last year! Never would've thought of it being the gap.

I often do very well in the clearance bins at CT. Nice haul!

I use mine strictly when I have to walk. Thats the principle design use of a smitty. I have 2 sets of cross members, one shorter set to take my small sled, and a wider set to accomodate a fish trap guide. When I take the snowmobile, I don't really care whats behind me cause my machine has enough juice that towing even a loaded portable is a non issue mostly. With my quad, everything goes on the rack if there is any amount of snow. The smitty really shines with the narrower cross members and a lighter load. It's not the greatest with the trap guide on top, still much better than trying to drag the thing on its own though!

I mounted my last one solely with 3M 5200, I didn't use any screws. That was in 2004. My buddy still owns that boat, and the board is still there. I will be doing another one this spring on my new to me rig, with a Raymarine transducer that is similar in size to an LSS2 transducer. I won't be using screws this time either. Just an option to consider.

Fair enough dude, your the one that needs to be satisfied, not us. Hope it works out well for you!

I don't think anyone was trying to cut him a new one, just pointing out that the results probably won't be what he was hoping for.

Mental health issues should be treated with respect and concern, it's a major issue that has come more to the forefront over the last 20 years. It affects a LOT more people than you'd think. That said, welcome to Canada. No-one that has hacked the head off of someone and tried to eat them should ever be released into the general population again, regardless what kind of meds they are on. Many people have suddenly decided they where "well enough" and stopped taking their meds, with negative results.

I'm too far into the blood sports for this to fly at my house, but I have 3 boys, so far its not been an issue. The oldest hunts with me, the middle one fishes with me constantly and is just chomping at the bit until he is old enough to get his apprenticeship card to hunt, and the little one is to small to hoist rod or gun as yet, but I'm sure his brothers will lead him down the right path. I don't envy you, I don't know what I'd do in that situation.

Agreed,

Indeed, smallies are tasty creatures!! I will often bonk a couple of 2lbers for dinner!

Get yourself a ten foot steelhead rod, and a decent reel, some floats of different sizes. Add some small splitshot and hooks, some micro tube jigs, twister tails and some small marabou jigs. A small bag to carry it all in, and I can guarantee you will never be bored. From first melt steelhead in the open all year sections to spring panfish, then your summer bass fishing and that long rod makes a great carp tool when the bass aren't co-operating. If your stuck on shore, you will never be bored.

This winter has been relatively short. Last winter started to suck the life out of me a little bit, but when I look at my shift calender and figure out just how few days of ice fishing I can squeeze in with famy obligations, this winter is starting to look shorter and shorter.

I would. But then I don't hold musky in as high regard as some, anyway this thread isn't about that!

I started with and learned how to cast quite well with RH baitcasters, because that was what was available. As soon as leftys became readily available, I switched. You can put all the pomp and circumstance on it that you like, fact is you will naturally do better with a reel that you are more comfortable with in your hand, be that right or left. As for musky gear, I sold all my crap years ago. But it was mainly 6501 C3's. They we're decent reels, but I just lost interest in musky. I wouldn't think twice about even the lower priced line of st croix. Excellent rods. The odd time I get the itch now and again, I just break out my slop rod, and it does just fine for kawartha muskies. I have to be honest, the only reason to use heavy tackle in my opinion is due to heavy baits. I never particulary enjoyed cranking in a 45 inch plus fish on 80lb test. I've never fished the areas that turn out 50lbers though. I've caught some nice fish incidentally on light line while pickerel fishing in the spring, and that is a whale of a fight, but I've seen some big fish beat in no time on heavy gear, and other than making for a nice picture it's pretty hohum to me.

Keep it for the next battery as was mentioned. Saves you $10. Even if it's just a car battery, they don't care what kind of battery you turn in.

Hey, I'm not saying its not a risk, but its a low risk. If your doing heartworm meds anyway, then you might as well get the one that is combined with flea medication as your dogs are likely to get fleas. We get mosquitos at my place as well. I have a friend who is a Vet, and I asked him in his 15 years of practise if he'd ever diagnosed a case of heartworm. His answer, no, the only place he had ever had any experience with heartworm was at the Ontario Veterinary College. We all have to do what we are comfortable with. I play the odds, after all, its my wife's dog.... lol.
-
I vaccinate the dog with a 3 year rabies vaccine, and usually do the rest once in 3 years as well. Vets are making a killing off of unncescessary vaccination frequency and programs like heartworm. Heartworm is becoming slightly more prevalent in Ontario than it was 20 years ago, but still the numbers of cases are staggeringly low. We don't have a long enough mosquito season. I believe in vaccination programs as well, its not like I'm a tin foil hatter but I think they really overdo it.

If I lived anywhere near Orillia, I would shop at Trombly's exclusively. Remy and his son are stand up guys! Great selection too. I stop in every time I visit family out that way.
-
I shop at canadian tire a lot. Closest place to me with a little bit of everything, including tackle. If I want to buy something I just take my iPhone in with the lebarons catalogue loaded up and price match plus I get 10 percent back in ct money. Sometimes they whine a little, but they always do it. They don't have everything a lebarons carries though, but you csn easily get an $18 rapala marked down. Plus they often clear stuff out. I just picked up some $20 sebiles for $5. Yep, I like CT!

If you'd been to a big US Cabelas its a whole other ball of wax. You could almost fit the Markham Lebarons in the cafeteria at the Dundee MI store. These are just satellite Cabelas stores. The one in Cheektowaga NY is very much the same as the one in Barrie. I get it, the population probably doesn't dictate the huge superstore. The Canadian experience Cabelas just won't be the same. Its still nice to be able to get some of the Cabelas brand products here though, and some of there pricing is decent, while others not so much. Sorta like BPS lol.

Two Lowrance units interfering with each other
porkpie replied to Basschaser77's topic in General Discussion
Use one unit. We never bother with 2 in the same hut. -
Throw the bait on pal! I never understand why guys hamstring themselves with a no live bait policy. There are a lot of times when it can all be done with artificials, but for the odd time bait makes the difference I make sure it's available! Good luck in the morning.

What a nightmare. Poor kid, I can't imagine how the parents feel.

Toronto Ice Fishing - Once in a life time event
porkpie replied to AKRISONER's topic in General Discussion
I've risked my life enough on Lake Ontario for fishing and hunting when I was younger and way more invincible. Even if it where possible, I'd leave it to the young studs! Good luck and have fun!
