Help with my Truck Value (trading in or selling)
porkpie replied to Steve's topic in General Discussion
If you fix what's broke, you may get 3k. If you sell as is you'll likely take $1500-1800 depending on the guy buying. I bought a 12 year old vehicle very similar that was e tested and in much better condition, all options worked with fully functional AC as a tow vehicle in 2007 for 3k. It needed front brakes for safety and I did them myself. I drove it until I bought a new truck in 2010. They are good solid trucks but unless kept in great shape the value really falls. I agree that the dealer is strictly offering to give you anything for it, just to get your business. There is no value in that vehicle to a dealership! -
Big tillers have always been hard to find. Costs are huge now too, as mentioned! That's a nice looking boat!

I don't know anything about the Ottawa, but I always always throw a linecounter combo in my boat, particularly on new waters. It's the easiest way to search and still be fishing, until you can find and narrow down the structure!

Call the service centre in North Bay. Your transducer is likely pooched! Thy have pretty good service and you'll be back in business relatively quickly.

Cabelas US is awesome. I don't know if they will be able to match their US experience here. If you've never been to an American cabelas, it is worth the visit. I am hoping the Barrie Cabelas was worth the wait. I'll find hit next weekend!

I love aluminum boats, but if I was choosing a hull primarily for big water I would go with a glass boat every time. My buddies 24 foot centre console just cuts through rough water like a knife. It is a very safe and comfortable ride even when things get lumpy. I have had too many tooth jarring rides on lake Ontario and lake Erie over the years. Simcoe can be a real b!@tch too as you know! Anyway, yes for versatility and portability, an aluminum is great, but for big water nothing beats glass!

I have owned both over the years. Humminbird used to be pretty much junk, but they have come a looooonnnng way! I currently run a bird 597 and it's a great unit, however it is no better than a lowrance unit of comparable features. I have recently operated a bird 587, an elite 7, elite 5 and an HDS7 unit, all on friends boats, and while bird and lowrance are different they all are pretty user friendly. I don't think you can go wrong! If you have the cash I'd get an elite 7 touch. That thing is awesome!!! But I'm guessing you want to keep the budget reasonable, so in my mind you can't go wrong with a bird 597 or a lowrance elite 5hds. Have fun shopping!

Depending on where you are, Aikmans in Mississauga is also a repair centre. The nice part about a powerdrive or a V2 is that you can add copilot to the one or I pilot to the other eventually and it makes them more versatile! But, if overall you where happy enough with the unit, it might be just as worthwhile to get it fixed and use it while saving for the unit you really want!

Went to Home Depot in Guelph and they've never heard of the stuff, although they are listed as a dealer! I'll try the place in Elmira. Thanks for the first hand account!

Some laws protect us from those who cannot self regulate. For example, I can go out for dinner and have one beer, and then realize if I have any more I may start to become intoxicated and be a danger on the roads because I am not a drinker and have a low tolerance for alcohol. I then self regulate, and drink soda for the rest of the evening, or if I feel the occasional need to get smashed I may ask my wife to drive home and she is a smart girl and will limit herself to one drink. Enter the person who cannot self regulate, and they drink 7 or 8, realize they have no plan to get home, and say screw it I'm fine I'm a good driver. That person then kills a family on the way home from their grandparents house. Same situation on a boat, same people can't help themselves but to push the limit.

Perfect, just what I was looking for, and there is a dealer in Elmira. Thanks!

Looking for an outfit that carries marine vinyl flooring for a project. On the highway 6 corridor between Guelph and Owen Sound. Kitchener/Waterloo would be ok too if there aren't any other alternatives. Thanks for your input!

I'm surprised it took almost 12 hours. Thats some kind of record.

Witness will have to attend court to give evidence if your son selects a trial option.

If I recall they have a pay station where you fill out a form and drop your money in the box. Fishing throughout the river has always been pretty good!

Has anyone tried any of the marine mechanics on kijiji?
porkpie replied to Shloim's topic in General Discussion
Honestly, it depends. I used a guy that ran and add out of the supershopper for years, and he worked out of his garage. He was a marine mechanic that worked in a large shop, and did work on the side. He always did good work, but he gave up on it eventually as he no longer needed the extra income. If you get a guy like that your probably good to go, if you get a deadbeat, well. Buyer beware I suppose! -
My entire tackle system is down to a milk crate and multiple Plano boxes. Wether I am in the kayak or in my boat, if it won't fit in the milk crate, it doesn't leave the house! I used to carry a boat full of gear, but I'm done with that. Now if I could just bring myself to whittle down my tackle collection a bit...LOL

Buy a castin plug and practice lots, then buy some big spinnerbaits. You don't need much more than that to catch Muskie. You can expand your repertoire later.

Mininstry may change Cicso regs on Simcoe

I had no problems submitting my comments and opinions on the matter. They even replied! -
I ran an 16 foot SSV with a 30 for a good long while. I believe the fury is a heavier boat. I had floors in mine, but that's it. The 30 two stroke pushed it well enough, but I wouldn't have wanted any less than that. IMHO you'd want a 40hp 4 stroke to be really happy wih that boat. I think a 25 would be a bit disappointing with anything more than just yourself and a light load in it.

Boat Safety Equipment - New York State - Erie

You need your passport. -
Bit of a hike, but I believe Blue Sky marine is a dealer, north west of waterloo. There is also a guy on rice lake, but I'll be damned if I can remember the name.

I did a ton of crown camping when I was younger, but with kids a few of the amenities are nice. I make a point of going to a provincial park once per season. I would go more, but we are very fortunate that my wife's parents have a cottage that we can use quite a bit. You will enjoy it, as long as you like the people your going with! 6 mile is a decent park, and they had all kinds of kids activities last time I was there!

Bad sh$t happens to people all the time. You do whatever you want. I don't leave the house with my dryer running either. I've see a few of those light up as well. Must be lightening!

I've seen at least one home burned to the ground from an "automatic charger". I only charge when I'm around and awake to keep an eye on things. Any piece of equipment or device can fail.
