Like Mike, I am also surprised how well a walleye does on a stringer. This summer, one was hooked bad, I didn't want to drag it around all day, but thought it should be kept, bonked it twice, and put it on the stringer. Hours later, it's alive and swimming fine with 2 scars on it's head. It became known as the zombie pickerel. I portaged with a walleye on the stringer and out of the water for 1/2 an hour. It too came back to life and looked fine. I poke through the membrane under the jaw, and not in the gills. In the Yukon stringers are illegal. If a fish is caught, you decide then and there if it will be kept.

The shelves are low on stock, they don't bring in new products, same crappy clothes for years, it still looks like K Mart and has hardly any people shopping like K Mart. I'm not going to be much help. All I've got- It's a super deep lake. I would still look for 60 to 70 FOW though. They stock it (the MNR has given up on the naturals?) but it's 1 line and slot size (the MNR hasn't given up on the naturals?). There is barely any huts out there and nobody walking out, compared to the neighboring lakes. My best advice would be to chat with Dennis at Krista's Baits and Bites on Hawk Lake Road on the north end. He looks intimidating but he's a super nice and helpful guy who knows the lake well. Post a report when you get back.

I use my old HB 565 portable on any boat I might be in, and on the ice. I've learned how to tie the transducer to the cable at the right angle for the ice. Just curious, where are you headed in Haliburton?

Lots of biggies, it looks like you're going to do well on the Walleye Trail. Never been, but I hope to try Horwood someday.

Very cool that you are putting the effort into helping that unique fishery. I can tell you're pretty passionate about that system. A couple questions- Is a recaptured fish a tagged fish?, from that same year, or from the length of the study? Do you think angling samples all year classes equally? Baits and techniques might be more appealing to certain sizes of fish. This could be the way of the future, guys like yourself, doing the sampling and working with the MNR.

It's a good fish story regardless, and nice pike in the picture. What was the temperature and how much ice up there?

Great footage as usual Justin. Same as you, I got one on my trail cam with a turkey carcass. Me and a buddy were lucky enough to see it, same spot, mid day, while grouse hunting. It's the only one I've ever seen.

I was hoping to get my permanent hut out on my home lake, but when I axed a hole I discovered that under the foot of dry powder snow was only 5 inches of ice (not enough for me, the hut and the snowmobile), any time spent up in Haliburton is a good time IMO though
