  1. if herring/ ciscoe are in the lake, I like pink and purple colors, 3" or 4"
  2. Sweet! How much ice up there?
  3. I tried but can't really think of anything, I guess I'm happy with the old stuff I have. I've always wanted a Wrangler 2 door, but like you said, that doesn't fit under the tree
  4. thanks Matt, that young guy knows what he's doing
  5. That camp looks sweet! I'd say you're looking good for years to come.
  6. There was a carp report, awesome edited video, ducks eating the corn on the underwater GoPro etc, what alarm was that, same as this one? I am also thinking ice fishing applications
  7. thanks guys, Mr Spiel you're in, and we'll make an exception for Bunk. Jeff, the big lakes were wide open, I didn't drive by Cedar but I'm guessing that would be a little dicey. Stockers Julian
  8. There's a small appendix in the fishing regs. It gives the gps coordinates for a small lake, and a special regulation that only people with the first name Chris are allowed to fish the lake. Very bizarre. So away we go... We took off some layers and bushwacked into Chris Lake. Just so Ironmaker doesn't give us heck , we took some safety precautions. I take the axe and start working my way out, checking as I go. We each had a long rope. We had a towel, dry clothes and waterproof matches in a dry bag, just in case. These little guys kept us busy, banging into our set lines, pretty frequently. I was first to set the bar a little higher. We had some interesting conversations. Chris- "Did you know I have only 2 toes on my left foot" Chris-`That`s awesome! What happened?" Chris- "Muskie, Chemong Lake" Chris- "I just tried to pass gas but it may not have been all gas" Chris- "I didn't really want to know that" Chris- "Have you ever seen a sasquatch?" Chris- "Yes, I can communicate with them vocally and by tree knocking" Chris gets a light bite and the battle is on. Titanic brookie, big fish of the day. A fun day, all fish released.
  9. yes bud, the stick is still in use I witnessed a guy fight a laker for 1.5 hours, hand over hand. I love the sticks, old school, simple, getting out there is what it is all about, not buying gear
  10. My company has the same safety shoe program. If I go over $100, I can pay the difference. They only accept receipts from certain stores though. I like my Baffin Titans. I have 3 pairs. My wife has a pair too
  11. I'm just trying to decide between work/ cottage thanks Ricky, I must admit, not the answer I was hoping for
  12. How are the small lakes for ice, specifically in Haliburton? any info appreciated
  13. Albany River Heading back to camp, everybody feeling good, full throttle, I just happened to be looking at my brother and cousin in the other boat. They ran over a native gill net, it hooked the skeg, and they went from 20 mph to a stand still in about 10 feet. Them and everything else in the boat ended up on the floor.
  14. French River, big group. It's me and my buddies day to do dinner. We put 2 big blocks of frozen chicken thighs on one side of the BBQ, turn the other burner on low, close the lid and head out fishing for the evening. We stayed out longer than we thought. Boating back into camp, it looked like a bunch of people huddled around a campfire. Coming closer we could tell it was other people from camp trying to extinguish our fully engulfed, flaming BBQ. The other guys weren't too impressed with hot dogs that night.
  15. We are getting some interesting threads. Pro wrestling, Hitler, Kijiji, Holy water etc. I like it, food for thought. Funny, we get a fish report and the guy gets reamed out because the ice is too thin, Hahaha
  16. I can't help with the fishing, but it's a safe country to rent a cheap car, get off the resort and tour around. Great surfing and cool little hippy, surfing towns south of you near Mal Pais.
  17. I noticed you weren't on here much. I was hoping it was because you were busy in a good way. Sorry to hear about the bad stuff. Sweet looking sled! Now you need a new suit and helmet to match I bought a new to me Bravo longtrack (now I have 2) and a beater 14' tinny and trailer. Next year I'd like a heavy duty Pike spinning outfit
  18. Hillbilly Jim, favorite move- big boot stomp, Don't go messin' with a country boy!
  19. My lake, they are there but not easy to catch. I put a lot of effort last winter to try and figure them out. I only caught 1 when I least expected, mid day. I had a tip on a spawning area for the late winter that didn't work out. From talking to the old timers, they used to be abundant and easy to catch. I'm guessing their numbers are cyclical and it's a low cycle now. I do have another tip for a lake up the road where from dusk on, the bite is great. I did eat that one, fresh, never frozen, as good as walleye and whitefish, deep fried. edit- oh yeah, 20 years ago my brother thought he had a giant laker, through the ice, at dusk. It was a ling bigger than any ling I've ever seen even in pictures.
  20. Wow, what a crazy night! Do you up-size your secret weapon hardbaits this time of year?
  21. Yeah, especially in the city here, you still should take precautions. No matter how harmless the person seems, I'll never say when I'm at work or come over when my wife is home alone. That story about the guy near Hamilton selling a Dodge comes to mind.
  22. I've bought and sold a lot of stuff on there, it's a great tool. It's pretty comical the way things happen though. I'm trying to sell a snowmobile on there now. I get home from shopping with my wife today, 10 minutes earlier a guy Email offers a price, says he will come right over, cash in hand, take it away, for that reduced price. I think about it for a few minutes, then reply "sure, I'll do that". Never heard from him. I just Emailed him a few minutes ago, "so when are you coming to pick it up?" Hahaha Same sled, a few days ago, a guy proposes he takes the sled on credit, no money down, 40% interest, and he'll get a lawyer to write up the required paper work so it's legit. It's a $1k asking price. There was a story about his nephew had his sled stolen and he wanted to replace it as a X Mas present. I scrooged out on this. The later at night the Email, the more bizarre. I've got a lot more stories. You guys likely have stories too.
  23. I have always thought that money and effort is better spent protecting what is still pristine, rather than trying to rehabilitate something that's already screwed up
  24. I think that's a good sled and good price Those Suzuki fan cooled engines were solid
  25. For example, Balsam Lake is 12500 acres. Using their math, that would be a total of about 50,000 mature walleye. I've done quite a bit of snorkeling. I'm not getting down very deep, but there is a lot of barren waste land down there.
