  1. That was John (slim, soft spoken guy) in the 80's at the corner. Another great guy. He sold to Jack and he moved it south of Highland Supply beside Boatwerks. Jack recently bailed and a younger couple bought it, it's still open, new owners, nice people, hopefully they do well.
  2. CT moved in to Minden, and Jack sold Minden Live Bait and Tackle. I remember walking in there one winter morning, there was the owner Jack, Brent Coltman, Rocky Crawford, Jack Prentice and myself. We all chatted. Priceless conversation! These guys are Haliburton back lake living legends. You don't get that at CT or Wally.
  3. For what you get (flight, cabin, boat, motor, gas) I think flying in is a sweet deal. A drive in camp you either trailer your own boat or rent one, and pay for gas. Factoring this in, the prices are pretty close. Mike is the guy to talk to for help and good deals. The fishing is far better flying in, compared to driving in to Windermere or Como IMO. Happy Day- nice owners/ camp/ prices, the fishing is disappointing, limit of pickerel everyday, not going to happen
  4. Different strokes for different folks I guess. He camps, you fish and hunt, I do all of the above and everything else.
  5. I love my bird feeder. Those pea brained creatures are amazingly smart and fascinating to watch. When I pull in to the cottage, the chickadees start flying around me chirping, wanting me to hurry up and get the feeder out. It's better entertainment then the Leafs, that's for sure.
  6. It's pretty hard to haul a snowmobile, a load of firewood or a yard of soil with that set-up. I'll stick to rubbermaids for my storage bins and sleep in a tent. Interesting post though.
  7. Is this a mid lake shoal, pretty far off shore? Did you have a way point marked on your GPS? The only explanation I can think of is you guys were way off from where you thought you were. No offence, I can get lost in a phone booth.
  8. Done! That picture is hard to beat.
  9. Any day out on the back lakes is a good day. Trailers can be a huge pain in the neck. Trailer stories- My uncle had his utility trailer come off at 90 km/hr, pass his car on a down hill and slam into the trees on the Monck Road.
  10. Exactly, it's been a piece of cake so far. Knock on wood. I find by mid February we've got it beat. Longer, sunnier days, and it feels like it won't be long until the sap will be flowing. I am
  11. When I've asked Adam (Fishlogic) for help, he always bends over backwards to do what he can. Never met him but he seems like a solid guy. You deserve a pat on the back too Rick for organizing events like that. Group hug?
  12. that makes sense I must say, Bernie is MIA, he got this new cool job up north, and now can't be bothered with us folks, shame, shame
  13. It's a 91, I don't know what TORS or fun flapper is, no tether chord though I did change the plug that night, as a hail marry, no difference Joey It was a warm day, a squall came through and the temperature dropped quick, then the problem, I'm thinking like Pics but instead of crud, ice I just left it in front of my buddies heated garage, he wasn't there, hoping he has it solved by the time I get back up, Hahaha
  14. If you're a sledder or cottager, there is always way less people around cottage country on Superbowl weekend. I always enjoy that aspect. I like the Leafs and will munch on beer.
  15. Smiley face= just bugging ya' Rick the beer and rod idea does sound a lot better than heading into work though I'm not sure what that means but I have a feeling Bill will be skunked on his next outing
  16. This discussion just turned political
  17. my new one is green, is this the wrong card? I liked my old one with the turkey on it better
  18. there's nothing like a Bunk report, very cool!
  19. +12? Enjoy that man! Your sled is running great, that's cool. My Bravo had a hiccup, any input is appreciated. We are leaving the ice hut late at night, she starts fine as usual, as soon as I crack the throttle it quits, I release the throttle, it idle/ purrs along, repeat, same thing, etc??? I towed it in this morning. I'm thinking ice in the fuel system/ carb? The plug looked way too hot (lean). I did get to ride my buddy's 1200 4 stroke to get home, crazy torque off the line.
  20. With all the idiotic things drivers do on the roads everyday and he writes a ticket for that? Brutal. Do an update after the court date.
  21. You're little guy is a trooper! Sounds like a great couple of days. He should have been holding a beer can while parked on the pressure crack for extra flair
  22. My pilot buddy Cam knows the outpost owners, so we went for a ride and thought we would check on the camps. This was kind of interesting. The one camp had mad trapper snowshoe tracks around it and a broken window. We were thinking- "what a butt head, he threw a rock through the window" We look closer and there's a dead grouse on the floor that flew through the window and the tracks go to the outhouse, Hahaha We fixed it as best we could.
  23. It was a bit of a "show" later in the day when there was a few visitors and empty bottles kicking around It was a slow day fishing wise, but I had a great time with you guys (Bain and Chris). In one afternoon I now consider you guys friends, very cool. Just so I don't get a phone call from the MNR, it's my buddy who is an operator and I'm listed as an unpaid employee in his business. I think I am basically a tax loss or something I would pay to get the chance to hang out and fish with Sinker and Bunk! \/ \/ \/ I'm pretty sure I'm one of those too Lew, lol
  24. Funny story Jimmer, cops stopped us off the beaten track, and were trying to tell us something in Spanish, no English, we played charades for a few minutes, all of us frustrated, then I said "Banditos!" cops- "Ci, Ci, Banditos!", -keep your windows up and doors locked was their message When I couldn't figure out how to work the gas pump, a guy called me a "stupido blanco", Hahaha It is a pretty safe place to tour around, I've done it 3 times and I'm sure you will have a blast Court R
  25. Liberia is better than San Jose for this, but when you land there will be a crowd of people outside the airport, and once you start talking to 1 car rental guy, the others will come to try to get your business and you can negotiate. Sounds kind of risky, but it's worked for me. Get a 4wd, it gives you more options, some driving is on sand, crossing rivers etc, and the roads are terrible, keep watch for giant potholes where are you headed and what are you planning to do?
