Not the healthiest way to go, but I like deep fried with an English style fish and chips beer batter

How to keep finger tips warm in the winter
chris.brock replied to okumasheffield's topic in General Discussion
Try an army surplus store like the one on Speers Rd in Oakville. The Canadian cold weather, white colored mitts are warm and well made. The US camouflage ones are not as warm. -

fishfinders and chart plotters are like computers these days...
chris.brock replied to AdamS's topic in General Discussion
I'm using an older unit, no complaints. I recently checked out the new models online and was pleasantly surprised at the pricing for far better technology. I don't need one but I'm definitely tempted. My 565 is around 8 years old though. I guess you could buy a new one every 6 months, to keep up with the trends. -
Erring on the side of caution is the best way to go, no doubt Ironmaker, the pictures look dicey but I think Selfmade was on slightly older ice adjacent to newer ice, not open water. I enjoy both your guys input here, JMHO Sad story on Scugog, I don't like to hear stuff like that, hopefully we learn from it

Jiffy ice auger wobbel, a pain to drill
chris.brock replied to Bluegill's topic in General Discussion
Since Jiffy doesn`t seem too cooperative, I`d give it a little pry with the bar to be more square like Fisherman`s Terry`s looks a little wacked too, it doesn`t wobble, it spins smooth? -
that 146 paddle track looks like it will ride up the side of a mountain, awesome sled!

I think lickmyarmpit wins the award for Canadian, redneck New Years Eve party, very cool!

Ontario Out Of Doors Sutton River Video
chris.brock replied to solopaddler's topic in General Discussion
I`ve always thought that a char only trip wouldn`t be my cup of tea, but the Sutton looks like a unique Ontario gem that should be on the bucket list very cool Mike, hopefully the magazine is in my mailbox Monday -
What more could I ask for? -and the winner is............. Chris and Andrea Brock from Jokeville, ON I know we entered plenty of times I have witnessed your ability to figure out new water, you've got it down to a science 2 questions Bud, did you check the outflow into Big Miss, any boats, any trail? and can you be the guide/ host at Blackbirch next fall? very cool read, looks like a memorable trip for everybody!

the Rupp or the Cat? The Rupp is more cool when I go through a mid life crisis, it won't be a Stingray or Firebird, it will be a late 70's SRX 440

I'm pretty surprised at the replies. Me, big game of shinny on the lake New Years eve day in a brutal wind, nice dinner and campfire later (brutal wind again), then I kept my 5 year old tradition going, in bed before 10:30, there may or may not have been drinking involved

yeah Wayne, this warm stuff coming should get rid of the little snow we have on the ice, then it's deep freeze, ice making time! not arrived in southern Hali, but soon Joey

small lake, perch ice fishing question
chris.brock replied to chris.brock's topic in General Discussion
My Dad and me hit it, late one afternoon. We moved around, a lot of flat bottom, no weeds, 12 to 16', no structure, we only covered a fraction of the lake though I think we were too late in the day, we had decent bites when we started, then shut down we'll be back with the power auger and snowmobile, I'm pretty sure there's a good spot that we have yet to find edit-Julian, small lakes are good, big lakes not, but I think by next weekend all is good -
it looks like 2014 is going to be tough to top, but I have a feeling you're going to give it a solid shot, very cool do you know your fly-in destination for this year?

small lake, perch ice fishing question
chris.brock replied to chris.brock's topic in General Discussion

small lake, perch ice fishing question
chris.brock replied to chris.brock's topic in General Discussion
that makes total sense LAO, but from my limited previous Haliburton ice perch experience, I'm going to start deep and move from there, your run and gun theory is likely the way to go I'm not counting my chickens yet, but I'll report on how we do regardless -
We have this great large mouth lake, no public access, only a few cottages, nobody really fishing it. I can get in by using my parent's friend's boat who have a cottage on the lake. While in there this summer, we were bumping into plenty of jumbo perch on our jigs and crank baits. We want to give it a try in hard water season. I don't have much experience targeting perch through the ice, so any help appreciated. Small lake, just guessing at a max depth of 35'. I think the deepest water is where I would start. Your thoughts?

Me and my wife like that show, silly guys, drinking, having fun, building stupid stuff, Pretty well what happens around my cottage

Looks like a memorable day, very cool!

I'm a Shimano fan but definitely not an up to date, techy, gear head IMO, for a baitcaster, it's a $200 minimum or don't bother, Curado at least for spinning, I think it's just reliability and the drag, and I'm not sure my Stradics are worth the price tag, the $50 range would likely be fine

never seen this before, is there a set course or they just zip around? jet drive, fiberglass boats?
