  1. Heavy ice build-up on trees and wires in our area. We lost power from 11:30 am to 9 pm. 4" of snow this am! Yay Spring!
  2. My Son-In-Law and his Dad stayed at Island 10 Lodge on Lady Evelyn Lake and really enjoyed it. This was a few years back though. They used camp boats.
  3. Apologies are not enough!!! Let's see some proof that this Hut Operator took care of business and had this mess cleaned up! Absolutely disgusting! No way in hell this operator should be allowed to put huts out any time in the next few years. The mess should be cleaned up and he/they should pay the bill.
  4. "as God is my witness.....I thought they could fly"!
  5. That's cause YOU have no OFF SEASON! lol
  6. When I had my Bass boat, I stored it with the custom made cover and I always trailered it with it on. I'm with Terry on this one. I want to keep prying eyes off my gear! I also don't want road grime and foul weather making a mess. For a trip the length of yours (I'm envious!) I would definitely keep it covered. I don't have a cover for my new Alumacraft yet, but hope to get the same guy to make one for me next month. My other cover had sewn in straps with snap buckles that attached to the trailer frame. It never moved a bit and certainly didn't cause any wear damage to the gel coat. I also had a fitted motor cover as well. Originally, I had wooden cross bows to keep and arch in the part that covered the front casting deck, but they did take a beating and always broke. He changed this to a support pole that snapped into the cover and fit into a bow seat base. Highway speeds really put the cover to the test, but if it is well made and fits right, it should be fine. It also only took a few minutes to cover/uncover.
  7. I have dabbled in it from time to time. A Buddies Brother had all the lead molds for jig heads and we poured a whole bunch on really good hooks. That was a long time ago and I'm still using them today. I have bought crankbait bodies from Luremaking.com and tried painting them myself with an air brush. They turned out ok. I think it is more of a hobby to pass away the winter months than it is to save money. Like Misfish said, you get a lot of satisfaction from catching fish on a lure you made or customized yourself.
  8. I'm with you on this one Rizzo! Well..........with the exception of catching a tank Walleye! Never been that lucky! I have also never caught a Laker....through the ice or open water. Those small ones sure did look nice. Nice outing to end the ice season!
  9. Very nice Simon! It would be even nicer to find them after ice out from the boat!
  10. The Toronto Sportsman Show holds a lot of very fond memories for me when I was a kid! I used to belong to The Toronto Anglers & Hunters club back then and when I was 15 years old (Mid '70's), I pretty much spent the week of march Break there going back and forth on the street car. Good times for sure! The recent shows are not a shadow of what was back then, but none the less, I went on Friday afternoon for a few hours. It was okay. We bought a few lures and some new line. Listened to John Anderson's Musky talk and talked to quite a few outfitters. JB's Fishing depot had some buy 5, get one free on Rapala's and such. Some No tax as well. I think in future, I will skip the Spring Fishing Show and just do this one. They are too close together. This show was spread out in a very awkward pattern though. Way too much distance between halls. Still a decent way to spend a few hours when it is too cold to be outside right now. Finished up with a nice dinner afterwards at Montana's. It does seem like they close too early for a Friday and Saturday night when the show is only on for a few days. Buy your tickets online and use code "OFAHmember" for $5 off admission!
  11. Very Interesting read! Thanks for the info. Any previous boats I've owned have had both plates. Usually, the data differs slightly. Thanks
  12. I'm curious about something. My new (last year 2017) Alumacraft boat has a US plate on it that lists the max. HP, max. weight limits etc. but it does not have a Transport Canada plate along side that one. I would think a boat being imported into Canada would require both? The first because it is made in the US and the second because it is sold and registered in Canaada. There was one couple working at the Alumacraft booth at the Spring show on Saturday representing a dealer in Port Hope, but neither of them had any clue what I was talking about! lol Just curious! The boat has registration numbers and everything from the dealer I purchased it through.
  13. Sounds like a good couple of outings! I went out with Floyd Hales a few weeks back and we did okay. I have nothing but good things to say about their operation. We only went to the perch grounds, but it was a lot of fun and the huts were very comfortable.
  14. Awesome replica mount and story Meely! Wife sure sounds like a keeper too!
  15. Hey Monsieur B! This just made my week-end seeing you back on here! Hope all is well? New boat here and can't wait to get back on the water myself this year. Rough start to last season. Let's hope for a much smoother start to the coming one.
  16. Richard, I bought the Hook 7 from Lowrance last year as my main unit and a Hook 3 for the bow. It uses the built in transducer in my Motorguide Xi5 trolling motor. Unfortunately, I only got about 4 hours on the whole deal all season and never really got the hang of how they worked to their full capabilities.! They were a huge step up from my old Lowrance X60 but there is a lot to learn! I have always been loyal to Lowrance but I'm sure there are lots of good units from Garmin and Humminbird as well. Good luck with whichever unit you end up with. Welcome to the board!
  17. Cliff, I'm sorry I missed this. Just seeing it tonight. So sad to read this. I only know you through your posts over the many years, but I have no doubt how much Sue meant to you, and you to her. As we get older, this is one of the biggest fears I have. To lose your soul mate is devastating, but I'm sure your family, friends, and neighbours will be there for you. Be well Cliff and my deepest condolences to you. Brian
  18. Those Lakers are awesome! Never caught one myself, so watching these videos is extra special! Great job!
  19. B, That is fantastic! Awesome video footage of the whole incredible thing!
  20. I agree, Crappie are even better if you can get them. Small Bass in the 1.5 -2 pound size are best! Let us know how it goes and how they tasted.
  21. LargeMouth Bass is actually one of my favourite fish to eat! I don't bother with Smallies due to the likelihood of yellow grubs. I have never had a grub problem with LM Bass. I don't keep the big ones, but the smaller 1 1/2 to 2 pounders are best.
  22. Actually, most Bass will not eat anything that is not alive. They kill their food and eat it. The only ones that will eat commercial fish food pellets, are ones that were "feed trained" when quite young. Most won't eat it. Goldfish are eaten with vigor!
  23. You nailed it! I'm thinking the fact that I turned 58 yesterday might have some relevance in this situation! lol I have left the fishing license at home already this year (only been out 3 times including this debacle!). Had the Wife photograph it and email it to me so i had at least a copy of it on my phone. Might not have helped, but couldn't hurt! Oh, and I also left the net at home....but I chalked that one up to early season jitters! I also left the ownership and insurance certificate for the truck home on the dining room table since I had it out to look for turn signal fuses in the manual. Yep, I'm starting to see the pattern here! She is all downhill from here. I did see something with the boat yesterday that might have drained the battery. When I went to check on the battery charging, I found my little graph up front still on from the day before. Seems like when you hit the off button, it sometimes boots right back up.I will disconnect the power cable from now on.
