  1. I am outside the city as well. Our local dump shut down a few years ago. Our garbage collection also changed hands to GFL as in a lot of other areas. We have to use clear bags and are allowed one per week. Recycling is unlimited weekly. For only two of us, the one bag of garbage is no problem. I am hardly able to fill one more than half way unless we have people over for a family gathering on the week-ends. Most of what goes into the trash is styrofoam and plastic cellophane and plastic bags because our area does not recycle them. I almost always fill the green bin with compost materials and always have a decent amount of cans, bottles, paper, and cardboard for the Blue bins. I would compost my own stuff for the garden, but it would draw in even more nuisance wildlife! For the life of me, I don't understand why they insist on filling holes in the ground with all this garbage!!! There are lots of very enviro friendly incinerator options that have almost no emissions other than steam such as the ones in Europe where they don't have the luxury of unused land for dumps. Another ludicrous idea is that we truck it all to Michigan and pay for it to be dumped!!! Why not invest in the technology now that will last us into the future? This decaying garbage will be in the ground long after most of us are long gone! Sigh!!!
  2. Awesome report and some beautiful photos as well. That really is a very nice looking fishing rig you have there. I have not seen the wave wackers on the transom since back in the late '80's. Where did you come up with them? Thanks for sharing the start to your season!
  3. Very nice work! Looks great!
  4. Fantastic outing! I would take those little trout over putting up with crowds to possibly get bigger ones too.
  5. Very nice Brian! Both the video and the fishing. You have quite the set-up going there. Beautiful morning!
  6. A lot of chargers will charge and show the battery is fully charged. This just means that it has 12.6 volts or greater. Once it is under a load, you will see it drop off drastically. As already stated, a load test is required and CTC can do that for you. A battery can still take a charge but be useless.
  7. Way to go Amanda! Congratulations!
  8. Awesome slabs! Very nice!
  9. Really good deal! I bought some in the US a couple of years back and thought I got a great deal at $6.99 per can US.
  10. I deal with Certas (Which was State Farm, and is owned I believe by Desjardins). My insurance is $269 per year on a new boat.
  11. LOL Garnet, talk about oblivious drivers!
  12. As myot posted, the lake levels are good. I have not personally been there, but a good buddy has been on the Bog a few times this year out of Port Perry and he said all is good! HE said it is already getting very weedy!
  13. Thanks for the support guys! I think the fight might be on for today! I have to see the dealer regarding replacement and I have to deal with Insurance regarding settlement. As always, lots of good advice here! My Family Doctor has told me to stay off work this week to deal with the concussion and other aches and pains from the accident.
  14. The place looks fantastic TJ!!! A real slice of heaven.
  15. LOL, Terry really has a boat rigged up for trolling these days!
  16. I remember watching his fishing shows many years ago. He was based out of Henderson Harbor, NY and it was also on public television.
  17. One thing I always do is put the motor in gear( I use reverse) while towing. This stops the prop from spinning on the highway. The seals are meant to be submerged in water, not dry like they are when towing. This won't help you now, but on a long trip would be good to do.
  18. Man, those little fish are about the most colourful species we have in our lakes and ponds. They look tropical!
  19. Thanks Lew, You came to mind immediately! I know we sort of owned twins and I remember your Daughters accident with her car. Mannitoubass2, he was charged with careless driving....but who knows if that will stick. The truck really did it's job. Probably saved the couple in front of me in a small car as well. Our two daily drivers are small 13 and 14 year old cars. I can't imagine what would have happened if i was in one of them. Strangely enough, I was rear ended at the exact same intersection a couple of years ago traveling in the opposite direction in my old Toyota. Just not as big a hit, but still over $6,000 in damages. I think I better get the bullseye off my back spare tire! I have actually now been hit from behind 4 times!
  20. I always wondered about the warnings to re-torque wheel nuts every trip. Mine are steel wheels and always seem to be good. Our travel trailer has dual axles and if you have ever watched a dual axle trailer turn, it is incredible the flexing and side torque those wheels experience!! I would think aluminum rims are even more critical to check.
  21. I am always anal about trailer tires and bearings as well. Every coffee stop (And they are frequent!) I am out feeling the hubs and tires. I keep them at 50 psi as rated on the sidewalls. Trailer tires just sitting tend to loose a bit of air between outings.
  22. Awesome Simon as usual! These videos are a real treat!
  23. Yep, Aug. 2013 we bought a brand new F-150 Lariat that was to be our dream vehicle. We towed our trailer on two nice trips and they amounted to pretty much all of the 23, 843 km we had on the truck. It was never driven in winter and was immaculate. We were trying to keep it for our retirement and to pull the new boat I just got last month after 4 years without one. Last Saturday morning I was on my way to see our Grandsons first Tball game and was rear ended by a Mack Dump truck on Highway 10! The guy was obviously distracted and didn't even attempt to stop. I was just coming to a stop behind another car at the red light. The crash was like a bomb going off! My whole world went black and I don't even recall slamming into the car in front. The impact ripped my seat out and broke the seat back. I don't recall climbing out, but the good thing is....I did. I was in shock with a concussion and pretty sore all over. Dump truck driver could not even be bothered to get out and see who he almost killed! At the end of the day, Insurance has written off our truck which I cannot easily replace. I won't find what I had and I will be out $10,000.00 easily. I know I am very fortunate to be alive and able to carry on, but the sadness is not going away. A lot of others have ended up way worse off than me. I know that. I guess fishing is on hold until the dust settles from this mess. Things just don't always go as planned. Take care and enjoy every minute!
  24. Pretty cool there Brian! Do you think an old fat boy could manage to get out in one of them rigs? I have been looking at kayaks and stuff, but really can't see myself being agile enough to do it. Nice to see the Go Pro videos as well! Excellent job!
  25. Ok, an update! I was in BPS tonight to make an exchange and saw their own brand of auto/manual inflate pfd's on sale from $119.95 down to $84.95! Now this certainly appealed to my "cheapskate" self! I did some online research and also spoke at length to a very helpful person from the marine section. These are made by a company called Onyxoutdoors for BPS. They utilize the membrane bobbin technology to auto deploy. If the pfd is immersed in water, the water is forced up into the bobbin chamber and the bobbin dissolves. Rain or splashing should have no ill effects or cause false deployment. it can also be deployed manually or inflated by mouth. This seemed fine by me! The guy did mention that if they are left in a damp storage compartment, the bobbin could be effected causing them to inflate. You could just unscrew the bobbin and store it between uses in a zip lock bag... or take your chances! The whole re-arm kit is only $30. You can use replacement bobbins from Mustang for about $15. He also said that they do not require proprietary CO2 cartridges either, so as long as you find another 24 gram cartridge, you are good. The Hydrostatic technology kits using water pressure can run up to $100 to replace every 3 years. Anyways, just wanted to pass along what I learned and thanks for all the good info you folks offered as well! I bought two of them to try! He did remind me as well that they do not count as pfd's on board unless you are wearing them.
