I never met the man, but read lots of articles over the years about all the good things he did for the fisheries. Does anyone know what happened? i had heard he was in good health up until his passing, or at least appeared to be?

Just another note about gasoline and brands. I was told many years ago, that gas stations on the highway, particularly up North, most likely get their tanks filled by one supplier. Be it Esso, Sunoco, Shell, or whomever has the majority of stations in that area. It is just not cost effective to have different suppliers delivering to different stations. So, for the guy that says, "I would never run brand X or brand Y in my engines.....you may not be getting what you think you are! I feel that it is better to buy fuel from a busy station that has a high turnover in their tanks than to buy from an obscure station that has their fuel sitting around longer. Another scam I have heard about is that some stations don't actually have three separate storage tanks, yet they offer three different grades of fuel! Hmmmm! I also used to buy gas for my car at a station on highway 10 when i was still going to work. For whatever reason, the attendant decided to show me a price sheet from his supplier, telling him what the price on the pump would be for each day of the coming month!!! Collusion??? Naw, can't be! Let's face it......Money and Bull makes the world go round, and we are just along for the ride!

Doug, I have the same motor, but in a 2017 version! Does yours have power trim and tilt? It was not available in the 40 HP in 2017, but I see it is on the new ones. The dealer I bought my boat and motor from (Chuck Howell , Howell marine in Chatham) was the one that told me to not use premium fuel. It had something to do with the spark timing and that 87 octane (regular fuel) was all I should ever use. You cannot just disconnect the fuel line and run this motor dry like I would with any other small engine. The fuel pump will make a heck of a racket if you do! I pull the filter bowl on mine every fall and dump out the gas. The good thing is these motors are fuel injected and do not have carbs. In my opinion, they are more tolerant of the ethanol. I would suggest that you run a good stabilizer in your last tank of the season, and then dump any remaining fuel left over from your boat tank into your vehicle tank.

Spiel, I am with you on this! When I bought my new Yamaha 4 stroke back in 2017, the Dealer made it very clear that i should not use anything above 87 octane. He explained the reasoning and it made perfect sense, but I am old now and cannot remember it well enough to repeat! LOL I was told by a very good marine mechanic that worked on my old 1987 Mercury 2 stroke, that i should run premium non-ethanol gas in my last tank of the year. That reason was just to keep the ethanol out of the carbs over the winter.

I tested the last Shell Premium 91 that I bought this past winter and it was ethanol free still, but I am afraid this will change. Canadian government made it mandatory that all grades must contain ethanol. What a pain!

I am by no means anywhere near this class of Fisherman, but I owned one glass boat and now aluminum again. For what I do, I have no desire to go back to glass. It will be interesting to see what Jeff’s future brings! He absolutely will have his choice to fish out of whatever he wants. Such an awesome representative of Canada and Ontario on the Professional circuit!

Brian, in two years, my turn comes up to not have to pay license fees for fishing. If i had any re-assurance that my money was going to MNR, I would have no issues paying anyways. Unfortunately, i doubt they see very much of our license fees. Absolutely pathetic!

Doug, That is the exact boat i have. I bought mine new in 2017. Also a tiller and 40 HP Yamaha. I wish now, that I had gone for the 50 HP because they come with power trim. It would surely be nice to have. Otherwise, I love it.

Simon, You are indeed blessed to have hunting and Walleye fishing so close at hand! I was curious as to what gun you were using as well? Like Gino said, I thought maybe a .410, but I am not familiar enough with them.

It wasn’t until a couple of years ago that I learned you can damage a lead acid deep cycle battery by discharging below 50 %!! I have had trolling motor and RV batteries for like 35 years, but somehow missed this point! DOH!! So your 90 amp hour battery is really only good for 45 amp hours. I am very careful about this now! Especially with the RV!! I use my electric bow mount probably way more than the gas engine, but do not run the battery down. It goes on charge as soon as I get done with the boat and stays on charge till next outing. I have a “Guest” two bank onboard charger.

I am partial to the ear style crimp clamps because they do work very well and are neater than a worm gear clamp.

Very nice Chris! I agree, catching fish is a bonus to the day, and I would be happy to tie into a Sheepshead! ( never caught one!)

10 &6 years old! Lol ok for me to walk out, but not them! Do you know if all hut operators still have to have their huts off by the 15th?

I was thinking of trying to get Grandkids out on Simcoe during March break (14 to18th) with a rental hut but then it dawned on me……..are all the huts off by the 15th?
