I’ve been out for bass already !

Just have your crepe in the boat before you hit the launch. I really really enjoy watching the guy with his boat in the water still on the trailer proceed to put the cooler, the ropes, bumpers, tubing gear, then text his buddies that he’s on the way and then launch the boat, only to park it on the launch side of the dock rather than the opposite side out of the way while he goes and parks the car and then waits for his kids to get into the boat. sigh... or last year, a crew of folks at chemong launch were putting their dinghy in full of fishing gear. They threw it up literally right beside the ramp so close that all of their fishing rods sticking out were in the way of the ramp. I just proceeded to back in missing all of their gear by an inch. Then when I got out to let the boat out I grabbed their rods and moved them to the side for them, they still didn’t understand what I was doing even while I picked up their fishing rods.

So try to keep this short...but guys that started baitcasting would cast and then switch hands to then reel. don’t ask my why they do this especially these days now that both handed baitcasters are available (back in the day reels only came one way) to this day it makes no sense to me, but with both handed baitcasters now available I think people that fish in this old traditional method will slowly disappear. I personally cannot reel comfortably with my left hand, so for me to have right handed spinning reels and then left handed casters makes no sense at all. I want to reel with my right hand all of the time so I do that. I guess some right handed folks never feel comfortable controlling their spool while baitcasting using their left hand, hence they want to control the spool with their dominant hand even if it means that they then have to reel with their left hand which is sometimes the opposite of the hand that they use for reeling spinning gear. im a real weirdo and it’s probably because of hockey? But I’m right handed in all things but hockey and batting while playing baseball and golf. Hence I can actually control a fishing rod comfortably with both hands. But don’t ask me to cast a rod from my right side, it feels super akward...unless that is of course while I am fly casting...because I fly cast right handed...I’m a mess lmao

i honestly wish the weather would just do what its doing right now full time. I dont even mind the days that are a bit cooler...just miss me with the 30 degrees of death in the summer time. I have never in my life missed the heat. Perfect weather...cold but not so cold that you get cold if you wear enough clothes, but not hot that you are stripping every last layer off as to not die. I have no problem wearing pants a hoodie a bib and a jacket but being totally comfortable. Some guys are lucky enough that their hands and feet dont get cold in winter, im not one of those people. Last week i was in the boat and it was about 13 degrees. I loved every minute of it...then it got up to 20 and the wind calmed down, i stripped off the suit rolled up my sleeves and was comfortable as comfortable could be.

You are so bang on with this one. I’d somewhat forgotten what it was like to actually have some spring weather to enjoy. Give me 15 degrees every day and I’d be the happiest guy in the world. the last few years it legitimately went from being 5 degrees to 25+ Over the course of a week. I know it’s been cold because I’ve been ice fishing until April the last few years. Finally we got our 4th season back.

Hell don’t confuse the guy lol bloody bass weirdos switching hands with bait casters still to this day is wild lol. I still don’t understand why people do this, but then again, go down south and watch how guys cast. You can tell they fish a heck of a lot in the trees. I could swear to god the guys on santee don’t even know how to sidearm or overhead cast. They flip everything from crankbaits to dropshots!

A lot of that has to do with the fact that simcoe ice this year wasn’t “real ice” it was pack ice from the main lake that got pushed into bays during storms and then froze but yes it’s also been ridiculously warm, was a beauty day out last thursday 20 degrees and sunny and calm in the afternoon. I could have sworn it was June!

Honestly I think it’s a mistake to try and learn with mono. It’s far more difficult to cast mono and flurocarbon then braid. I think you should learn with braid, I find the birds nests easier to get out too. Just remember when you bird nest, do not pull on your line and tighten it! Just slowly lightly work it out like you are untying a really tight knot. Pick away at it slowly and it will come undone. Also I’ll mention that even the pros birdnest from time to time so don’t feel bad about it. Don’t start by casting directly into wind. Try to have the wind at your back at first. Make short smooth casts and get used of braking the line before it hits the water/ground and work up from there. honestly if you are super carefully with your birdnests and work at them you will almost never need to cut your line no matter how bad they are. Typically the only time I get birdnests now a days that are bad enough to cut is when I absolutely try to launch something a mile long and something strange happens like I bump the handle and close the spool somehow or my line had a knot around my rod and I’m not paying attention and try to launch my bait and it goes nowhere. Honestly the last time I birdnested so bad it had to be cut I cast so hard my line snapped and my lure went flying 100 yards into the lake once you get the hang of it you will almost never go back. Trust me!

Get braid...wayyyy easier to learn on. 20 lb power pro. tie a leader to it for what you are fishing. Topwater, mono, a lot of other stuff fluro, slop for largies no lead

I honestly think that cabellas and bass pro's websites suck so bad because of the customer base still doesnt demand a robust online shopping experience and furthermore they dont care to attempt to compete with tacklewarehouse in that regard. Cabellas and B pro are like walmart, theres nothing high quality there, its just the basics. Its always intrigued me how the customer size base in canada is still not large enough to have any group step forward and either A) Create a canadian tacklewarehouse or B ) set up a canadian distribution using the same platform. Im glad that Peterborough Pro Tackle has clearly invested some signficant capital into growing their online and retail business. They really seem to be taking off and I am happy about it because the days of Pro J being the only place to be able to buy higher end gear consistently are over. More options is never a bad thing (some others carried stuff but supply was and still is always so limited) Gagnons at least carries the gear, they just dont have the tackle. I got to admit, its frustrating staring at tacklewarehouse being fully stocked with everything you can imagine all of the time, meanwhile in canada its still to this day limited stock/limited colour choice, limited gear ratios whatever. Its through no fault of anyone except for the fact that the number of guys like me demanding this stuff in Canada is probably in the hundreds which pales in comparison to the industry in the united states both for bass fishing and offshore gear.

I’m not surprised what so ever by someone doing this, what I’m most surprised about is that someone that bloody moronic and stupid has a good job that pays them enough to buy a new f150 the idea of driving on any lake south of Sudbury scares the hell out of me...the idea of driving on simcoe!!!! Last week!!! When most guys had called it a season the week before even for walking is absolutely mind blowing. heck we didn’t even take the sleds on the ice in parry sound this weekend

Obviously not that my scenario is the rule because I have heard of plenty of people that dont know where they got it, but being 100% upfront and honest...the only people that I know that have gotten it are either A) working in a factory where it went through like wild fire (ok totally unavoidable) or B ) were going to the gym, had a family birthday party with 5 families converging in one house C) were the type that said and still say to this day "Covid is no big deal" and recently saw us at the grocery store and saw that we were wearing a cloth mask over our surgical mask and called us "paranoid" I dont think to many people who's entire households are working from home and abundantly cautious are catching it very often. I travel for work regularly and lets just say that not all regions are as compliant with safety measures as others...the irony is that the regions disobeying the rules the most are the ones that are now identified as target areas for vaccination. Not exactly how its fair that the guys that break the rules the most are the priority for vaccines while people with immediate health complications are forced to continue to wait...but I guess we need to at least make an attempt to fix stupid? I cannot friggin wait to get vaccinated and get this stupid thing over with.

Hey guys, looking for somewhere close by to put the boat in somewhere to get the new stuff dialed in for the upcoming season. thinking Hamilton harbour might be a good option but I do know that some of these places barricade the launches until “boating season” does anyone know if bay front park boat launch is open?

curious spiel, what are you using on your cork to get that look? Is it layers of U40 or something else? Im considering doing some layers on this rod to try get back the original feel a bit.

Got it patched up. took a belt sander to some wine corks and got a jar of dust. Mixed wood glue in and over two days layered it up. It took a few layers because the hole was so deep and the glue would inevitably shrink or want to run. I do wish the colour was more bang on, but I can’t complain considering how bad it was prior. the feel is pretty spot on after sanding. Definitely wouldn’t notice it while fishing. I hope the glue holds up to wet hands and rain

sounds like my 88 15horse You cant kill the damn thing. It runs even with its carb currently being screwed up from my old man leaving ethanol gas in it for 3 years. I know for a fact if i put a new carb on it it would run first pull no problem.

Oh haha this mouse deal happened last fall. The boats in the garage now. The rods are always in my rod locker but I had a crew of mice move into the boat and start terrorizing everything last October. The rods are pulled out because I’m installing panoptix and working in the rod locker. ive actually got two rod racks that I’ve been waiting to put in my “fishing room” in the basement but I’m still slowly clearing out my old man’s engineering papers that he’s collected in boxes over the past 50 years lol. The guys legitimately had 57 full sized file folder style boxes of paper in that room. I’m about half way done clearing them out. I fill up my truck every time I go north, it’s wild!

unfortunately the cats cant live outside in the boat lol. But ya I have a garage that I store my boat in now so we are good to go! A little too late though for a bunch of my gear. They also chewed the nobs off of three of my reels. Really really good stuff. I can say that one of them did pay for it with his life, but to me his life wasnt worth that rod and three reel handles.

Hey guys, well the mice last fall decided to get at the cork on my brand new $400 rod. So now I’ve got to figure out how to fix this hole read some stuff online about mixing cork dust/shavings with glue to fill in the hole. anyone done this before and have a glue recommendation for me? Spiel maybe has something to say about this?
