  1. hence why I would literally never buy one of those used boats off of some of the pros. You watch how they do it on TV...literally turn the thing over and rev it to max RPM instantly. A few of the pros though you can tell they cruise for a minute waiting for the motors to get up to temperature.
  2. This is what I have heard from the v max crowd is that their water systems don’t drain properly when shut off so the northern guys have cracked their motors by not draining them and having them freeze. the solution for that one is simple though, guy have started turning the motor over dry during cold season. and that if you don’t let the motors heat up before running then full throttle (isn’t this a problem with every motor?) that you can start to have issues. this ones tougher on the competitive bass boat market because of the nature of how guys run their boats they fish a spot for a couple of hours and then hop back to the console and hammer the throttle down. To me though any issue related to this is no surprise at all
  3. Zaldain tried on day 1 he was actually at the spot before gussy and zeroed they said to win that tournament exclusively with smallmouth was impossible
  4. http://tv247.us/watch/fox-sports-1/?fbclid=IwAR15-fv6rg8GDM3mf8HwbtBjBM0BWp9eqboFtylZm5wE4sHRK7orkOlVeac link to bassmaster live fs1 coverage gussy’s family is hosting it
  5. Agreed, the “live coverage” isn’t as good as “bass live” with the entire crew.
  6. A local posted on bass boat central that there’s always fish there. They are clearly wintering there and stacked up. You gotta hope that something catastrophic doesn’t happen to make the fish disappear on him on championship Sunday. a 7lb lead helps a lot that’s for sure
  7. Big difference...it’s his job. He’s not pleasure fishing. They travel and quarantine and then have stayed down there fishing the elites for a month now. travel Isn’t restricted for business purposes
  8. For those of you interested, Jeff Gussy Gustafson of lake of the woods is leading the bassmaster elite in Knoxville Tennessee on day 3 of 4. he’s already got a limit on day three fishing winter pattern smallmouth in the Deep South! Really awesome stuff. Only one other canadian has ever won one of these events. To win an event in the south for a canadian makes it even cooler. Gussy even said during his weigh in interview after day 2 that he has been waiting for years for the right conditions and lake for an opportunity to fish the way he is, which is the same way he’s dialed in on them early spring on his home lake. you can watch the coverage live all day here https://m.bassmaster.com/video/bassmaster-live
  9. did one of the scariest things I have ever done while working on my boat. new trolling motor and a big foot pedal it was time to go recessed. Taking a circular saw to the casting deck of your boat almost made me sick to my stomach. It’s going to come out incredible though. I’ve “dry” installed it and it looks really good. I was about to fasten it down permanently but realized that wiring the livescope that was in the mail would be a hell of a lot easier to do with a giant hole giving me access to the entire front half of my boat 😂 i only almost started a fire....while cutting through the floor with the jig saw initially I didn’t realize there was a cross brace coated in fibreglass that was longer than the blade on my jigsaw. I got a bit stuck and it basically ate the blade on the saw. What proceeded to happen was a hell of a lot of friction. I looked up and noticed smoke billowing out of all of the wire access holes throughout the boat. I began to panic thinking there was a full blown fire in the hull of my boat. all is good though. Seems like every time I get close to finishing the work I add something to the mix ive got installing my new transducer on my transom, installing the livescope system on the bow, which includes running some new power cables down the boat. A new auto bilge, and to stick up my new compartment lighting that’s all wired and ready to go once things warm up...maybe sunday? amognst all of this work I’ve managed to get out a few times on my new stomping grounds, a “newish” (I’ve fished them before but not consistently) species to figure out has been really fun. A few rookie mistakes, learning how they want it, how to fight em, how to land them has made this season really interesting. Coolest of all is just how pretty this fish are.
  10. nope, they will do 80 comfortably though with a passenger and tournament load. Gambler/Sterling hulls are basically designed to not lose any performance with load. So whether you are by yourself or with your tournament partner and all of your gear you barely lose any speed. There arent too many 100mph hulls on the market. Bullet is the main one, and the ones that get to 100 are strapped with either tuned/modified 250's or 300+ The other company on the up and up is ballistic boats. They now have a standard package boat with a 300 and the owner put a 400 on his.
  11. I really need to add the Cheater as part of my arsenal. It just makes so much sense when jigging deep fish, especially fish like laketrout that can be anywhere in the column
  12. It is somewhat interesting that we all have a big giant engine parked in our driveway yet we’re expected to buy a generator specifically for providing power to where we are. You’d think a simple outlet on all vehicles would be an easy thing to put in. Enough power to heat a room to stop the pipes from freezing. Heck I’ve got a Diesel engine in my driveway the thing can idle for days on hardly and fuel
  13. I was marking a bunch in 48 fow on a ledge that goes from 17 to 85 fow
  14. And that’s exactly why their stuff is so gosh darn reliable. They don’t try to re-invent the wheel, they just try to perfect what they have. They are also never the flashiest for fastest either but damnit do they work. I wish I knew the hours on my 2 stroke. I think gas prices will be what kills my motor, not anything mechanical that’s too expensive to fix. and yes they had a total recall on the 2010-16??? 250 and 200 SHO because they were blowing heads. Full factory replacement though was made available to everyone that had them.
  15. You know you have absurd space when you are like, to hell with it, I want to mount the TM straight to reduce air drag hahaha the stance of that boat is just absolutely insane to me. Ahhhh if money was no object eh? Lol
  16. To this day, this is the sickest boat I have ever seen
  17. Find me a mad yamaha owner challenge...
  18. There’s a guy in my town that actually did a full refurb on a gambler...kinda weird, the guy just left the thing out in shambles, uncovered through the winter, batteries laying in the driveway a stainless prop laying on the ground in his garden. Kinda funny like a hidden gem, I’d walk by and see the prop and laugh cause if people only knew how much that prop was worth to the right person...anyways I’d walk past it every day walking my dog and at one point was honestly gathering up the courage to leave a note to the guy saying “hey I’d like to know more about the boat and whether you’d like me clear up the space in your driveway” to me if the pro xs on the back ran I could easily sell my skeeter and find myself in a 20 foot gambler with a pro xs and be up money. this plan quickly folded when all of a sudden the console was ripped apart and compartment doors were missing. I wasn’t sure if he was gutting it or what. But then all of a sudden a ultrex with livescope showed up on the front of it and then all of the compartment doors came back re-carpeted. The guy totally refurbed the thing and it’s beautiful. Oh well that was the end of my dream lol
  19. For burbot dead stick a minnow on bottom deep edges was marking a bunch in 45fow on the weekend. They haven’t quite moved up to spawn yet.
  20. I’m guessing there’s plenty of ice to walk on. Might be slushy with all of the snow though
  21. funny how in december/early january the boys and I were wondering if we would ever even get out on the snowmobiles to fish yet her we are with a foot of the best ice ive ever seen and a fresh massive dumping of snow. It doesnt take much does it!
  22. By the way, I went from a flooded interstate battery in my boat to the Motomaster ultra AGM (yes I went all out) the thing quite literally made it sound like I installed some kind of super magneto in my boat. It turns over like machine gun fire now.
  23. Canadian tire AGM batteries are made by east penn deka i did a pile of research on this tracing private label batteries back to the manufacturer. east penn is widely agreed upon to be the best manufacturer of batteries. as mentioned pay attention to the cold cranking amps and amp hour ratings. The warranty on motor master AGM is full replacement for varying lengths of time depending on level of battery you purchase. No pro-rating, no questions. It’s by far the best warranty in the industry. After a season running them in my boat I can attest to how powerful and awesome they are.
  24. those giant boats with 12000000000 horsepower always make me laugh because their top end is rarely over 70mph. Theres a point where the weight and drag/hull design cant gain anymore speed. Hull matters so much more than power once you get going over 70mph. Thats why bullet bass boats will do over 100mph while a ranger struggles to get over 80 with the same motor. Speaking of going fast, wanna see something terrifying?
