  1. saw a clip yesterday...one of the young guns was fishing lakers on cooks yesterday!!! looked like maybe an inch...inch and a half? luckily this guy weighs about 140lbs and is in his 30's...still wild though
  2. plumbing antifreeze in my livewell and bilge lines fill gas tank right up full with stabilizer...and run that stabilizer through while i warm up the motor for the oil change. Motor oil lower end gear oil charge up the batteries and bring the lithium inside need to put the trailer on jack stands and as always, ive got a list of work to do, but i can never feel any motivation to do it when its cold, my garage is not insulated, so its fine on days that are around 0 to work in, but I generally feel very blah for the first part of the offseason. i need a new keel roller, i saw that somehow i managed to smash my keel off of my trailer as well at the end of this season leaving a big chunk of gelcoat missing...yay! going to patch it up ugly, and then throw a keel guard on, such is life...6 more years with this hull and it can go in the garbage for all i care lol I also need to fix my rear compartment, the screws have all stripped themselves out, total pain in the you know what because they were screwed into an area with carpet...im not sure what to do still about that one...might try a quick and dirty first and just inject 30 screw holes with epoxy and screw into them and pray for the best...otherwise i think ill have to recarpet the entire back section, good luck matching that...boats i tell ya
  3. honestly limey im surprised its taken you this long lol Saw a photo yesterday, the by's while staying close to shore, are out on the scugog Bog! I think a few of the small ponds around here are accessible, but you want to be limber enough to certainly haul your wet butt back out when you go in. Its been a christmas tradition for me the past few years, falling into the lake 😆
  4. lots of things cooking A possible trip to florida in March to see jays spring training and do a guided trip with Garret Rocamora in the harris chain for giant largies a trip to the chickahominy river again possibly? a trip down to ohio for early season bass with my club. Then next year I hope to do a bit more club fishing than this year since I wont be going out of country for multiple weeks in the middle of summer. FYI anyone looking for a way to learn bass fishing, our club is set up to match boaters with non-boaters. We fish as teams and the events only cost $140 for co anglers. You will be matched with a boater and get to fish for the cost of your entry. Its a crazy opportunity to get matched with some of the best bass anglers in the entire country and go fishing for the day. Shoot me a message if this is something that youve ever considered!
  5. had my final trip this weekend, waiting for the warm up later this week to wash the boat and will winterize this weekend during the + temperatures 😓
  6. that things a friggin tank, hopefully released?
  7. stayed at that resort, theres a fly fishing operation that does flats fishing that will pick you up from the resort. The guys are fly snobs though and very difficult to communicate with. I cant remember their names. The fishing itself was an absolutely fantastic experience, I had plenty of opportunities at big bone fish, snappers and even caught a couple huge barracudas. I just found the attitude of the guides a big offputting, 1. Im not a great fly fisherman, and dont claim to be 2. they didnt seem impressed with the $50us tip i gave them on the $400 trip? meanwhile another guy named Ray that was staying at the resort that i became friends with said he paid something like $600 to fish all 7 days with them...didnt make much sense to me. look ray up on instagram, hes an ex calgary police officer wongchez is his handle, he spends tons of time down there every year fly fishing, really really nice guy tell him I sent you.
  8. The classic, first post ever, tell me where and how to fish post
  9. There are no pike in Stoney or Buckhorn lake... I personally would fish georgian bay, plenty of giant pike around that compare to the ones you see on those fly in trips in manitoba and the NWT etc.
  10. ill also personally give a shoutout in a similar fashion to Garmin and G Loomis Had a problem with my footpedal on my garmin force, they sent me a brand new pedal the next day! with a return shipping label for the old pedal. I had an old G loomis that I bought off of a board member...I think from this forum? 15+ year old model, I snapped it by accident on a rod locker lid, reached out to loomis and they got me a brand new drop shot rod through expidator no questions asked.
  11. glad to see erie is so loaded with eyes that it will maybe push some of the pressure up on g bay back south again. Things were getting pretty nuts during the covid run, definitely a lot less boats last year. Everyone keeps raving about how good erie is firing at the moment for eyes...so it must be legit. I keep seeing guys with stringers full posted everywhere.
  12. Paul kryskow is an interesting character. hes excellent at what he does, he’s just very poor at customer service, and that’s the nature of the beast. He’s a mechanic, not a dealership. Will he fix your problems, and find a way to get your problem solved at a reasonable price even if it’s weird stuff where you need parts from another motor? Yes the guy practically has an outboard junkyard at his disposal. will you know what the hell is going on, or when you’re boat will be fixed by? Typically no lol So, you don’t go to kryskow if you’re intent is to just slap a new lower end on a boat, do that yourself. however, if your lower end explodes and your looking to find a used housing and to get it rebuilt for an older motor, he’s your guy. he found one that fit my old Yamaha totally rebuilt it for me and it was 30% of the cost of a new one. Problem in my case is the water return wasn’t in the same spot because it was an 03 motor instead of an 06 and it caused issues for my particular set up, I ended up blowing my entire motor that same year. it’s not exactly Kryskow’s fault though, he doesn’t know my boat hull, prop to pad and how I’m running my set up.
  13. fished doe about 12 years ago, my friend caught the biggest pumpkinseed ive ever seen in my life. stalling at low idle but it will start again no problem so its not flooding? Assuming its a carbed engine? Consider taking the carb out and cleaning it, things might be a little sticky.
  14. do you mind sharing what brand of tire that was? seems like a ridiculously catastrophic failure.
  15. theres some pretty good small lakes around the province that you really can get by with a trolling motor in a pinch. Our club had multiple 19+lb bags of bass come out of a very small lake last week. Heck if you go up into haliburton, theres massive largemouth and sneaky walleye in all sorts of small ponds.
  16. i personally went with the Blue sea, just because they are reputable. Make sure when you wire it up, that your using tinned copper wire in a very heavy guage (i ran 4) and that your terminal ends are also tinned and heat shrunk!
  17. sorry been out of town...youre gonna need a new lower unit. Generally lowers are actually fairly interchangeable within a horsepower and year range. Whats odd to me is how bad your lower corroded...not sure how that happens unless youve got some kind of wild electrolysis going on? The older the motor, obviously the tougher it will be to find a used lower. There are some companies that make knock off lower units too in the states, may be worth looking into? I personally would just dig in and try to find someone with a used yamaha they are willing to separate with. Problem is that those motors are so bulletproof, most people wont get rid of them unless they are really desperate. Ahhh boats.... Break out another thousand!
  18. definitely go musky fishing, Pigeon is loaded with them. As for mid september...depends on the weather, if it stays warm you should have a great time, if its the big time fall turnover it can be really really tough.
  19. yup, dont run that motor at all except for in your driveway. I sure as hell wouldnt put that gear case under any load. Also, did you potentially hit anything? wondering if youve bent your prop shaft and blown the seals out...lucky you, you see the oil leaked out...when mine blew the oil in my lower just mysteriously vanished, i assume into the lake at some point...was lovely to open my lower end after it blew up and found just some water....
  20. im running an ACR and can absolutely say with certainty the blue sea ACR does have a parasitic drain...not particularly an issue if youre aware of it, but its there. Do i love having it though? For the kinda fisherman that wants to run 3 graphs plus livescope for a 10+ hour day on the water, the ACR to me is must have equipment at this point. One thing I should maybe consider is just throwing a couple of switches into the boat to essentially isolate the ACR entirely when i have my boat parked for weeks at a time. In general what I do do is if my boat has been sitting for a week, i just make sure to plug it in the night before I leave again to make sure my electronics battery is topped right up. Do they work...Fished a tournament on wednesday and didnt drive a ton, had the battery down to 11.8volts by the end of the day...it sure was nice to see it back at 12.3 as I was driving back to weigh in. Had a couple sketchy days on the water a few years back before I got the ACR, was out pre fishing and ended up being out there for 12 hours, 20 kilometers from home and my graphs all start going off telling me my voltage is low...not ideal to run Georgian bay, fishing new water and have to drive home in the evening with no graphs...made it back, but that sold me on the ACR.
  21. if your gonna fish balsam, you gotta learn to fish literally in the deepest weeds on the lake...thats just how it goes there.
  22. you should join a bass club and become a tournament director, now i have full time job as a tournament coordinator, boat mechanic and carrying a full time career so that I can afford to do both of my non paying jobs 😄
  23. fishing has been weird this year as well, the mix of a late ice out, with extreme heatwave in the middle of june has put things somewhat out of sorts.
  24. top water in low calm light at dawn and dusk or during cloud. During the afternoon, dropshots, ned rigs, whacky rigs or just good old dunking texas rigs on the deepest weed edges of the lake will produce. spinnerbaits around milfoil beds when the wind is up. or bladed jigs over the foil beds. cant go wrong flipping docks this time of year for buckets.
  25. I smoked my 2 nautilus group 31AGM's after 2.5 years, and not that they are bad, Im just way too harsh on them. Too many fall derbys and pre fishing days where the wind is just howling and Im taking waves over the front of my boat for 8 hours. Made the switch to a 36v roypow (epoch) this winter and had to purchase a 36 volt charger for it. I started digging into it and if you look at the chargers being offered for 36 volt batteries by the battery manufacturers, I discovered that they were simply re-branding most of the chargers with their own sticker. I ended up going with this charger for my battery, good ratings and was being sold (rebranded) on some battery manufacturers sites. I have had no issue with it thus far, feels heavy duty, charges very fast and is waterproof. https://www.amazon.ca/Waterproof-Lithium-Battery-Applications-trolling/dp/B0DFCCTQ54/ref=sr_1_5_pp?dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.4uJrqgaeU7qIDVYrYnKbp2G18ohrKgo1GRRqgE4XYwoUJCi9mVzRUq2LCxF4GyGgyOuUjrWlfwJZ6FIURu8oD-81MMmyWaz7nAiTjBjk5DHkH11eBfSJSkNg2CUrfOFp8PWQppjVXqkI8k74mJ6yxymc0uEUxHSgc-Iv2fS59bdhy69lw74xkrbILFpqJ4DztvnsnKcq7gZQ2w_jq10p7oAm9EVCCOqSa0GkdM-GIOM18S3IIrSnD5LIGa6QI55rQGiCFaFXRUQYd3sSIgpUPwiz5g64KYgccIWaLDvmYEk.uhO48FAYsnCZ-GwZ-znmUkHNLPkORDiU3gbY9izB7Ik&dib_tag=se&gad_source=1&hvadid=604611876619&hvdev=c&hvexpln=0&hvlocphy=9000851&hvnetw=g&hvocijid=14957966395779784310--&hvqmt=e&hvrand=14957966395779784310&hvtargid=kwd-309400761348&hydadcr=13777_13438525&keywords=36+volt+lithium+battery+charger&mcid=8c46d3071f5e30fcbef76b0c3a6f8437&qid=1750945271&sr=8-5
