  1. had to share this one with the newfy inlaws...they loved it.
  2. i run into these things throwing cranks against rock piles in the kawarthas. I also like catching them through the ice, but to catch em on the fly rod would be the ultimate. Really really cool to catch crappies up shallow. I guess now is the time for that!
  3. honestly...and I understand the privilege and entitlement that saying this accompanies because I know health care workers have been put through the ringer. People have had family members die. People are experiencing long haul complications related to this illness. But if you are asking about me personally I have lost the one thing that literally aside from my family and girlfriend that I love the most, and thats just going fishing with my buddies. Absolutely ive done my best with the situation to have some work arounds. Last year twice I quarantined in advance and after to go and camp on my friends lawn to have a mini fishing derby with the guys, but that also meant I could only fish with one friend all weekend. In the winter I had friends come up and fish with me for the day in their own hut. But seriously the old days have been taken away from me by this stupid virus. Once again im not trying to complain because things could be worse, way worse...but im tired and ready to move on. Im lucky enough to be fully vaccinated, so I can for the most part do whatever I want on my own accord, but I still have to be extremely mindful of who I interact with for their own health. This includes primarily my immuno compromised mom and my girlfriends father. I also am still not allowed to go to my best friend's trailer to fish due to their "no visitor" policy. Heres what I want...and honestly I feel like it may happen sooner then later...but to say im waiting patiently for it would be an understatement. I want...to be able to call my buddies up and say "hey lets fish this weekend" and what that entails is us meeting up wherever the hell we want, with 2-3-4-5 of us, we arrive, we gear up and rig our rods, we wake up early, we have a coffee, we go fish all day, we come home, we play some poker and talk about our day on the water with some cold beers, we cook some steaks and we inevitably pass the Ef out early to wake up and fish again the next morning. Literally, for a guy like me, this is what I live for. Its my favourite thing in the world to do and its been taken from me. Maybe Im a cry baby, but maybe some people can relate to what I'm saying.
  4. seems crazy to me considering how bloody hot its been this spring.
  5. or hit the gym lol
  6. Spend a day casting and driving around out of a bass boat. it’s hard to go back lol im spoiled, my old man runs a newer 19.5 foot alumacraft with a four stroke yamaha just an absolutely beautiful fishing rig…and I can’t stand fishing out of it almost always. I like it when I have to fish when it’s below 0 in the fall, when waves are exceeding 3 feet and if you need to do any sort of trolling…that’s it. I’d rather fish a 2 foot shorter bass boat every other time. theres just something about being on pad and how glass bass boats drive, and when casting standing a foot off of the water with literally no obstruction
  7. I see guys unhook their boats before backing in and I always think to myself that they are insane.
  8. 4 out of 5 biggest walleyes were up shallow on clear sunny days throwing chatterbaits and jerkbaits for bass...go figure looks like some very nice table fare there
  9. Habs face real competition when they get out of the north and will be crushed. Watch the Colorado vegas series if you want to see some real hockey, and watch McKinnon. He’s what a real superstar looks like in the playoffs
  10. Here’s what threw me totally off, it specifically references the french river and its bass regulations in another section. Talks about wolesley bay being included, references a slot limit on bass but makes no reference to the closed season. the lake nip exclusions then reference waters of the French river and gives a bunch of specific instructions on where that is and has a third Saturday in June opener but doesn’t reference wolesley bay specifically. Just a complete mess.
  11. thats part of the problem here...$1000 fine? They had over 100 fish in one outing. Something tells me its somewhat easy to make that $1000 back and get back to commercially fishing again in no time.
  12. you are indeed not. This was actually clarified directly by the Ministry after a bunch of catch photo and release tournament style guys brought it up. The Ministry came out with the following statement Dear Bass Tournament or Event Organizer, The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) recently announced changes to the Fisheries Management Zone 20 (FMZ 20) bass seasons effective January 1, 2021. New for FMZ 20, is a catch and release season for bass (smallmouth and largemouth) from January 1 to May 10. Several tournament organizers have enquired about hosting catch, photo, measure and release events during the catch and release season. Taking time to measure, weigh and photograph a fish in a strictly catch and release fishery is not permitted. MNRF direction on what anglers must do with their fish when there is no legal possession limit is as follows: “If an angler catches a fish that cannot be legally possessed (e.g., during the closed season, prohibited size, exceeds the catch and possession limits), the fish must be immediately released at the place and time of capture. This includes fish that may be injured during catch. This information is available to anglers on page 11 of the 2021 Ontario Recreational Fishing Regulations Summary.” For further information on the immediate release provisions around catch and release seasons or competitive fishing in Ontario (generally) please contact: Dan Taillon Fisheries Section, Fish and Wildlife Policy Branch, MNRF [email protected] 705-772-8748
  13. As long as the boat and equipment seize is permanent and auctioned off the punishment is harsh enough. Those fish were definitely headed to market without a single doubt
  14. Feel better man! Keep us updated and stay safe. If you start going downhill do not hesitate to visit the hospital. I’ve heard of many people trying to fight through breathing troubles and putting themselves in more trouble than they needed to.
  15. Don’t worry about that, if you ensure that you use the boat frequently you won’t regret owning it for a second. my suggestion is to take it easy for the first bit on buying new gear for it because you will inevitably notice things that are broken or could use fixing and you’ll want to make sure you have funding to keep those things running rather than doing additions. unfortunately boats no matter how basic will always be a money pit. But being a guy that uses his boat 10 days +a month in the summer it’s worth it. there is also of course the “things you can live with” and things you can’t live without. For me a guy that fishes tournaments I have no choice but to keep my boat running perfectly when it comes to pumps, electronics and motors. but owning an old boat is still worth it when you consider the price of a new one. I’ll tell you right now there will always be something that needs fixing almost always. Right now for me it’s my trailers wiring and a new bilge pump (the old one works, im not a maniac i just need an auto which ive bought ive just been waiting to muster up the energy to dig around in my bilge area which is very difficult to access.) . Inevitably I will fix those tomorrow and something else will break lol just the name of the game!
  16. Honestly your best bet is to just get a trickle charger to use when you get home. The solar method of charging Doesn’t guarantee that your battery will recharge again. you are going to want to make sure that your trolling motor battery has enough 12 volt amp hours to last you a day of fishing. Let us know what kind of battery you are planning on using. go home and throw the battery on the trickle charger to make sure you keep it topped up at all times. Low batteries that don’t stay charged when stored dont last nearly as long. Make sure you top them up with distilled water as well that helps the solution in them remain the correct dilution resulting in longer battery life. Lots of YouTube videos will help you do that.
  17. an absolutely killer deal for someone. wow, i wish i had the dough
  18. Wait for minkotta to catch up with brushless tech and you’ll be set. The power these motors have is ridiculous and the draw is so minimal. ive basically discovered that I almost never use my motor now on higher than level 3 of 10 regardless of how windy it is. That’s how much power these things have. right now only the top top top of the line motors have it from Garmin and lowrance and maybe MG. I imagine the next gen of minkottas will all be brushless
  19. i finally got my 66 year old mom out in the skeeter last spring. She held on tight but loved it. My father hates riding in my boat and this year he hasnt put his boat in yet so hes been doing a lot of riding in it. It also hasnt been particularly warm. 2 weeks ago he asked if we could "cruise" back so that he would be warmer lol
  20. seems like people are fishing elsewhere
  21. now you are just making me feel bad for my passengers in my single console bass boat 🤣
  22. Bugs here stayed close to the water and didn’t fly high. Different story in the Bush or near the beach. The black flies are hatched and chewing. Luckily so were the Laketrout. Had 3 in 3 casts at one point. Caught a bunch more too. Panoptix putting on a clinic. Didnt even have to get up with the Sun. They ate all afternoon. thanks for the recap
  23. I used to do this with a leatherman, before I had splitting pliers. I stopped after stabbing myself multiple times lol
  24. If we didn’t have a relatively wet end to April our rivers would have been friggin completely dry at this point.
  25. Split ring pliers
