  1. No Brainers for a Novice angler on Rice: All easy to fish and mostly weedless. Key for the novice. Spinnerbaits. Topwater baits (frogs/poppers/buzz baits) 3 or 4inch twister tails tube jigs Bucktail jigs #7 Shap rap and/or HJ12 Husky jerk weedless senkos Your bass and walleye ready on Rice. You can add a wack of stuff to that list, but is it a good start and covers all the water columns IMO. Good luck, Phil
  2. Agreed Tony. World class fishery for sure. I've fished the river alot and it is a hike for me, so I try to time the conditions right. A buddy and I tried to meet up there for a fish for literally a year! Everytime our schedules would allow us to get together, the conditions sucked. Then he moved to BC, those of you who know Al Patton will know why I wanted to fish the river with him! To the OP, there are some awesome guides on the river.
  3. LucG, congrats on the very nice clean buck! This pictures speaks a thousand words for me. I lost my father this year. I was about your age when I shot a nice buck and have a picture very similair to this one with my Dad grinning ear to ear too. He was so proud of me as I am sure your Dad is. This is the toughest time for me right now, as we'd normally be up at deer camp together. So thank you for this post. Cherish the time LucG. Ok, enough of that. Nice shoot'n tex.
  4. Alot of the fishing equipment is shipped from the US, be sure of the shipping costs and the potential brokerage and duty charges. I have used Amazon.ca for items shipped from Canadian retailers and got great deals.
  5. Thanks for the read and pictures. My kind of report. I really enjoyed that. My exact style of fishing - Jig and Jerkbait. Try the jerkbait on the weedbed egdes your dunking in the summer. Kudos.
  6. It is a US Reel. http://www.usreel.com/products/SpinningFeatures.aspx
  7. Good fight sir. Would be nice to have a couple of those kids that were originally kicked off to join you at the town council meeting. If you can't find'em maybe we could dress a few of us up if the need be. Keep on, keeping on!
  8. Awesome Mike!! I tried this for a couple hours out this way on the weekend. Nadda, but there is some other water I'll give it a go this week. Thanks for sparking something different for me to give a go.
  9. What beast, he was definitely the stud of the area. I got a big farm buck in the past as he was a giant beast, pretty sure yours is bigger! Congrats.
  10. I run straight 8lb Flouro, was partial to P-line but I am really liking the Berkley Flouro.
  11. Lew, let me know if you ever need a hand moving.
  12. I liked it. I hate trap hockey personally, exact opposite of how I was taught the game and enjoy playing it.
  13. When in a tournament I never fill the livewell until the first fish is caught. I had a favourite hat that blew off on Lake Ontario, it was rough and not safe to turn to get it. I am working in a new one.
  14. Awesome, if the weathers hold out as planned and I am going to try this Friday morning! Thanks for postnig Curly, I mean Mike:)
  15. I've had my fair share of run ins in my time with mean territorial fishers that think they own the land and water, however these ones were in waders. Seriously had either a fisher or marten freak on me one time while Moose hunting, vicious little thing. Actually prepared for it to attack me, then for some reason it turned and ran.
  16. Most likey 45's Shawn. The Okuma Convector and Clairon 45's are very popular lead core reels.
  17. Never fished there, but I suggest getting a 2500 yrd spool of line though.
  18. I've done a couple. You are looking around the 15- 20g mark. However, that is with easy access.
  19. Yes, Good Luck all!! Not preaching - but I heard an awful story this year during moose.. Small reminder. Be aware of your target and beyond - Be Safe.
  20. I'm in, going with the "balding caterpillar on my lip" look again this year.
