  1. Thanks. I know the BBC boards, but not familiar with what TT stands for.
  2. Taking the family to Houston in mid-April and I wouldn't mind taking a couple day-trips to the coast around Galveston. Was thinking of a maybe looking for an opportunity to get some fishing in. It would be myself, wife, and 11 year old son. I don't plan on hauling any of my own gear down there with me as fishing isn't the primary reason for the trip. Anyone done any fishing down there? Any recommendations on places to fish? Reputable (and reasonable) guides? I'm thinking redfish are popular? A species I haven't caught before.
  3. Absolutely, send me the info! That sounds fantastic if I could I could convince my wife!! What did a trip like that cost? Is it per person or per boat? The small village fishing boats charges by boat, whether it's 1 or 6 people, same price.
  4. We have a trip planned for the southern area of the Mexican Caribbean coast at the end of March into early April. Specifically, we are heading to a small resort in the Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve first for 4 days, about one hour south of Tulum. After that, we are moving north to Akumal for 3 more days. Our primary activities will be snorkeling with our 9 year old son who just learned in freshwater the last couple summer but has never done it in the ocean, touring a couple Mayan ruins, and hopefully finding some Cenotes to explore. However, I'm planning to bring my travel rod, and hope to squeeze in an hour of fishing here or there if it's worthwhile. Just wondered if anyone has tried fishing from shore along this stretch of the Riviera Maya. Another option is that while in the Sian Ka'an preserve, I think we're going to go on an all-day tour of the mangroves in the preserve where you see crocodiles, lots of bird life, manatees, dolphins, and then they take you out to a reef to snorkel. From what I understand, you literally go down to the docks in the small village and get a local fisherman to take you out to do all this. I've read they will also take you out fishing for a pretty small fee - about 2000 pesos which is about $100 US. Just wondering if anyone has any experience with this area. Thanks!
  5. I'm not seeing the team gel, unfortunately. Guys are often a step behind where they should be, so there's a lot of scrambling. Passes look sloppy, very few are tape-to-tape, and whoever said they need to shoot more is bang on. Way too much fancy dipsy doodling around with the puck when they could have and should have put the puck on net. Down 2-0 to Sweden halfway through the 1st P right now by the way. The way things are going, they might not even medal, let alone with gold this year.
  6. So, how is it that we had to go all the way to a shootout yesterday to beat Switzerland 3-2, while the US are beating them 10-1 right now in the 2nd period? Is the current crop of Canadian juniors not as dominant or talented? I know the Swedes are favoured to take the gold this year, but it worries me that we had a hard to with SUI yesterday (down 2-0 at one point) while the US is running all over them.
  7. Sweet! Thanks so much! I used to have dreams of getting my float plane license. Never happened. Maybe it's not too late. I'm only in my mid-40's! I think I can pick that island out in your photo on the depth chart map I downloaded from the link someone provided earlier. Are those 3 other dots closer to shore also islands? That's the north shore of the lake, correct?
  8. Thanks so much everyone for all the tips. The aerial photos are awesome, and the link to the depth chart much appreciated. Will certainly help my Dad narrow down some fishing spots (like the tiny island!). For the guys who've offered more detailed info via PM, I'll definitely be in touch that way. Much appreciated!
  9. My Dad booked a trip for October on Tomiko Lake north of Nipissing with a couple other guys. A little fishing in the mornings, a little bird hunting in the afternoons. I'm not going, but I thought I'd try to get some info for him. He's not too savvy on the interweb, so I'm asking for him. Feel free to post, or PM. He's mostly interested in walleye (eating) and maybe some pike (not eating, just catching for fun ....any trophy sized fish in there?). Lake doesn't seem to be on Navionics chips. What else is in there that might be fun (and/or tasty) for him to catch. He's 72 so he's not going to be fishing any all-day marathons. Thanks!
  10. Wow. Jokinen didn't last long. He must be counting his lucky stars.
  11. It was fun. The obstacle course relay was great. Those guys can skate and shoot. And Weber's slapshot is ridiculous. I wish he had beat Chara's record. The breakaway contest started out a bit lame, but I guess you can only do so much with a puck. Some of the guys got creative towards the end. I thought it was hilarious when Vorecek copied Johansen's move with the kid, by using Gaudreau!
  12. Not buying it. I think they were really booing some of those players.
  13. Watching the All Star Skills Competition introductions right now. Seriously, why is the crowd booing for almost all of the players being announced? These guys are the best of the best. Regardless of whether you like the team they are coming from ..... each and every one of these guys deserves respect. Very disappointed with the crowd in Columbus.
  14. I grew up in a split household. Father's side of the family were all Leafs fans so that was what was on TV in our house. However, we lived close to my grandparents on my mothers side. They were Habs fans all the way (French Canadian), and we spent a lot of time over there .... many weekends spent lying on the floor in my grandfather's living room watching the French broadcast of the Habs game. So - my hockey loyalty is a bit schizophrenic from birth. It's nice to have a back-up team to root for! So, yes, it's possible to be BOTH a leafs fan and a Habs fan!!! My son - 8 years old - has unfortunately inherited this schizophrenia. For youth hockey, they are allowed to wear any jersey they want for practices. Last Christmas he asked for a customized Leafs jersey (his name and number on the back) from the NHL shop. This year he asked for a Habs jersey. He wears one on Tuesday night practices and the other on Thursday night practices!!
  15. And the annual January slide into oblivion is now well under way. Man, I hate being a Leafs fan. They love to give us just enough to get our hopes up, like climbing into the wild card spot for a month or so, and then - OH SORRY - we forgot we're not supposed to win. Here, watch us lose the next 12 of 15 games. It will never change. I was born 2 years after they won their last cup. They will probably win their next one 2 years after I'm gone.
