My step brother is on his way up there from Calgary to spell off some of the firefighters...

I was reading Fort Mcmurray today and they seemed confident that it was under control on Monday.. http://www.fortmcmurraytoday.com/2016/05/02/crews-resume-battling-wildfires-near-fort-mcmurray-no-change-since-last-night

This fire has been burning outside of town for some time from what I have been reading. With the wind and heat it flared up and turned in a hurry. I can't help but wonder what would have happened if this occurred in a community with a lot of seniors and people that didn't own cars....

I had a similar set up when my wife and I had an off the grid cottage in Kinmount.. the pumps are the same as the ones in an RV. The best thing about them is that they are repairable!!.. I will be setting up a rain barrel high enough off the ground to give me room to fill a pail under it.... Gardens do very well with rain water..

You've got that right.. some of them are nutty when it comes to politics... tends to ruin some good conversations.. -
Tell him to apply at US Steel.. we always seem to need electricians.. He may have to go to the Lake Erie plant though .. thats where all the action is...

If I was closer I'd almost do it for $15 an hour.. I charge $18 for side jobs which is actually low.. if I do them in the future I will be charging more. I get enough offers to do it full time but most people don't appreciate what someone's labor should be, especially when it comes to painting and minor renovations. Working 12 hour shifts with side jobs leaves me with no time to fish but the only money that comes into our house is from mine and my wife's labor.. we both have had some tough times growing up so work ethic is important to us.. at one point in our lives as kids we were both homeless so I don't think it's a coincidence that we ended up together.... my daughter will never know that hardship if she learns about working for something..

not any of us that currently work in the steel industry .. especially the old Stelco..

I used to work for my uncle bailing hay for $3 an hour in the 80's and from there I have never stopped working.. luckily my daughter doesn't mind working for something! She babysits right now and has chores when she gets home from school.. she also volunteers at the Equestrian Association for the Disabled in Mount Hope for 7 hours a week. I asked her once who tells her what to do there and her response was no one, we just go to work and do what we are supposed to do... I'm thankful she has a good work ethic.. she turns 13 soon so I hope the crazy hormone years don't ruin it.. and yes, I agree that there are a lot of kids these days who don't work for a darn thing..

How much danger was her life in? That's a vital question in a case like this.. the girls family was pleading for him not to harm her so they must have known something bad could happen.. and when "authorities" say non life threatening injuries that doesn't mean she won't be permanently disabled from this...

I would go with a cheap utility trailer..

Hamilton Bassmasters swap meet, who's going?
pics replied to Old Ironmaker's topic in General Discussion
While I would have loved to talk to the OFC guys longer my agenda for the day was to hit up the control merchants warehouse in brantford afterwards for some good deals on camping and even more fishing deals... then it was off to the Can-Am horse show at the Markham fairgrounds.. it was an expensive weekend... -
There was a guy with a Savage .17 hmr rifle.. It was priced right but I lost the his phone number..lol.. Turns out the bassmasters didn't think it was appropriate for a fishing swap meet and escorted him out. They were going to call the police but other than maybe breaking one of their rules the guy didn't do anything illegal. I can see him being told to put it away but to almost call the police shows how ignorant people can be towards a gun...
-
I picked up some jigs from bigugli.. good prices and quality..it was tough to spend much time talking with anyone due to the crowds..lol
-
There was one at the sportsman show. They are made in stoney creek.. it seems like a solid unit but it's a bit expensive ..

He certainly made politics interesting .. he was a great representative for his constituents.. too bad his personal demons got the best of him..
-
I enjoy the odd fishing show but it depends on species... I just can't watch bass fishing...
-
For the most part the show was decent. I was glad we brought food and drinks.. I didn't buy much other than a barrel harness from LeBaron which was $15 cheaper than at Sail.. we saw Dave from wicked tuna and the dog show.. with such high prices for a booth, you won't find too many killer deals at these shows like you used to.. I bought tickets online and used the OFAH promo code so they were $15 each.. I will skip the show for a couple of years unless there's something new to draw me to it.
-
My wife, daughter and I are going tomorrow. We always pack a lunch and snacks at these shows. It will probably save us $30 doing this. I hate being charged $3 for a water that's worth pennies and even more for the food. Seeing the shows might make the show worth the price of admission...we will see..

It was at 7:10..someone beat you to the lake..lol

Heading home from work this morning I saw a Lund on the Redhill Parkway heading towards lake O..

that's how I use my electric.. cut right through and remove the rib bones afterwards when I take the skin off.. a few years ago I was fishing in the Nipigon area and the guy I was with cleaned walleye with his filet knife the same way.. I think it's hard on the blade myself..
-
Ok, that clears that up.. and yes let's hope..
-
I have a few older knives that do the job adequately but has anyone tried using an electric sharpener? . Bass pro has a few in different price points that look as if they could get a nice edge on a knife.. I'm just not sure if they are a gimmicky item or are they actually useful??
