Binbrook Conservation Area - Dissappointment
pics replied to Uncle Buck's topic in General Discussion
Most private campgrounds are family owned and they do employ people but they have the advantage of not having to pay someone to stay overnight as well as early and late in the season. Chippewa Conservation area breaks even at best and money is very tight for conservation authorities...... The Hamilton Conservation Authority is closing the campground near the water park along the beach because it dosen't make any money... They plan to concentrate their resources at Fifty point..... -

Thanks Miller!! And to uncle Buck..lets hope the next time you visit is a much better experience..... Oh yea, I think the reason the gate house was closed at 3 was the student who was working started at 6 and since there is NO MONEY for overtime she was gone home... Everyone else was on the ice trying to get through the snowdrifts and slush with all the stuff from the derby..... -

The crappies were over populated for several years so there was an imbalance. When we set traps 18 years ago they were full of them, so many that other fish in the lake suffered. There is still a good population of them but lately we have seen other species like perch increase. When trap netting or fishing it was almost unheard of to see perch. 300 huts for a one day derby tends to slow the fishing down so it's not like everyone catches a dozen fish each. We know the population is getting smaller due to the average size being bigger than in the past. This also helps with other species in the lake.....At almost 500 acres it isn't a huge lake but it's big enough to support the ice fishing that a normal day would have.. Plus you only allowed something like 50-100 acres to fish in with the rest of it off limits...... -

There will be a new park superintendant next year...maybe things will change... As for the fishing I would think a lot of people would disagree that it sucks.... A trap net this summer held over 700 crappie and the pike are starting to show up after a couple of good year classes. We have seen a few walleye from the stocking we have done and just ask anyone that has fished bass there how well they are doing. We are working on more fish structure over the next few years...time and money..lol. Someone dropped the ball in regards to where they sent you to fish although many of the regulars would love to fish west of the trees... As for the snowmobiles pulling huts out..no,not unless there were some that struggled in the heavy wet snow and the guys were helping them out...Like I said we used the snow machines to pull our sleds full of equipment...small sleds = 15 or so trips.... I work with the Glanbrook Conservation Committee, no one is paid and we are not responsible for the prices to enter...We raise money selling food and drinks... Fishing world gives over 2000 dollars in prizes away with no money for them from the tickets..The entry fee is about the same as most derbies. They could always go back to the days where the park was closed in winter and anyone entering could be charged with tresspassing. Campgrounds don't make money for conservation areas... 24hr staff and facilities cost too much..it's break even with good weather... -

With 360 derby participants what would you expect?... Normally the old boat ramp is closed because it has a hill that's not paved and there's always someone that will get stuck. There may not be staff to tow your vehicle as well... As for the snowmobiles, they were there to haul out the equipment and prizes for the derby and to monitor fishermen...the weigh station and bbq was out in the middle of the lake. Feel free to volunteer next year to make things go smoother... very few that were helping were paid employee's.... -
My wife, daughter and I almost went on our first "hot vacation" to Florida..... until I got locked out at work... the vacation fund became the lockout fund ...Our honeymoon was our last real vacation 15 years ago...Oh well, the mortgage is being paid, hydro's still on and the credit cards are paid off AND we still have food in the fridge....

Without natural predators these birds will only get worse...... mineral oil is a better and more environmentally sound way to destroy the eggs.....
-
I'm thinking both were injured...they hit the ice pretty hard and both probably died later....
-
And every time they buy another competitor to add to their corporation, they consolidate production......in China...but the prices don't seem to go down much.

my buddy and I fished there last week..all the perch were wormy that we caught...We also caught and released about 15 largemouth bass...I'm not sure why they were so active?? Watch for the white chev truck with the cap on the back--poachers!! 3 rods each and they were keeping the trout!!
-
Old cut....jimmy Riggins has a 5 dollar taxi....
-
We went out of old cut....the fishing was hit and miss....some went home with limits and others very little....
-
I can tell you that there was no attempt to poison the carp...I'm not sure where some people get their information!!!lol A good place to start is at the old boat launch along the fishing boardwalk....I wouldn't attempt the dam with a young one due to the rip rap along the shore which would make for dangerous walking. The fish are rarely there anyways....As for the pike, the population took a beating years ago when there were pike derbys when dozens were taken out each year and they haven't recovered like they should have. The lake is maturing slowly with different vegetation types taking hold with the help of the Glanbrook Conservation Committee and the Niagara Conservation Authority. Any pike, bass or walleye must be released but catches can be reported to the park guy Jim so that we could keep track of what is being caught....

The video/variety store closed so I'm not sure who would have the original. The city of Kawartha lakes has a replica even though it wasn't caught there. I would ask at the food town across the road or even the gas station....someone must know. The lake is surrounded by private property but there were never many fish in it to begin with....I believe the fish was 9 lbs 13 oz.. -
Try Eagle Canvas in Burlington as well

Binbrook has a small population of walleye that have been stocked in the last two years as well as a few Quinte fish that were held back from the Hamilton Harbour stocking. More fish stocking is planned in the future depending on funding which comes from the spring crappie derby. As for bass fishing in Binbrook, it's good and getting better every year. And yes, it's catch and release for walleye, bass and pike. If you are in the Hamilton area, look for a free day pass in the Val Pack coupon envelope coming soon...

Same thing happened to me with a tent trailer...I didn't go for it...You can find out the source of the sellers email when you click on files/ properties/ details and it will trace the source somewhat. The buy and sell in barrie is very bad for it... -
Brava was a lakeport brand and much better tasting than corona in my opinion....corona seems to have a skunky taste

My wife, daughter and I went Friday. Parking was 10 bucks at the harbourfront's parking lot almost underneath the Gardener about a 5 min walk from the show...cheaper than the train. To get our money's worth we watched all the shows and ate outside for 5$ at the chip trucks. I ended up buying a 50cc arctic cat atv for my daughter for $999 which was 500 bucks cheaper than Bass Pro's sale price. Country Corners also had 250cc dvx's for 2800 (all brand new). Pizza Pizza made a killing overcharging for a slice with pop and chips, almost 7$. Why do people fall for it????
