  1. There's a very short perch run in Port Maitland but by the time outsiders find out its usually done.. I think the timing depends on the temperature..
  2. It was a sick kids ad.. brings tears to my eyes every time...
  3. She was an inspiration..I recently watched an ad for sick kids that she is in..
  4. actually I'm on top of the battery... we are running slowly so we don't run out.. lol
  5. I'd love to make a move away from the city.. I'm sitting in my machine tonight overlooking the harbor and skyway bridge thinking the amount of traffic is truly mind boggling .. at 6:30 the QEW was almost stopped. I can't imagine doing that every day. I grew up in different areas of the city and it wasn't until I lived out in blackheath(past Binbrook) that I realized I wanted to live on a farm. My current home is on the edge of the city that seems closer every year. Since my wife won't go North my best bet is going towards Niagara where it's more affordable.. anything with a bit of acreage here is a million and up. We are both tied to our jobs so the commute is an important part of the decision. In a perfect world we could make decent money somewhere with great fishing and hunting nearby ..that isn't my reality unfortunately....
  6. I fear if we have these in this style too often then people will tune out. Like I said before, a beep or series of beeps and a scrolling message would work just as well..
  7. This type of television warning was never intended for an Amber alert in the past. This amber alert never even met the criteria to be called one in the first place. There is a list of requirements that need to be met first. These red screen alerts will be ignored if they happen every few days.. originally the plan was for them for be on only when there is immediate danger to large numbers of people ( mass casualties) .. by all means flash something across the bottom of the screen but save the red screen for tornados, chemical leaks etc
  8. I have some people next door to me that are just as bad or worse.. last year was the last straw.. we are doing renovations to get the maximum value when we sell... that's if I don't end up in jail first..
  9. Eventually I would build a cottage but since I don't like too many people around I might have some trouble finding a place to build that isn't too far from the civilized world (for the wife and daughter) .. I would start off with a nice toy hauler to set up in the woods around Nipigon so that I could explore the back lakes..
  10. My wife and I bust our arses and we don't have any money left over for a decent vacation yet we make too much for my daughter to get free tuition!!.. I have been losing ground since 2007 with no end in sight.. only our resourcefulness has kept our heads above water ...
  11. Looks pretty darn good to me!!
  12. I've heard that there's a car crusher out on the reservation now so the problem is going nowhere ... too many cars were littering the bush lots and fields..
  13. I think people around here are tired of these thefts.. the police know where the trucks go and who is doing the crime. Since it happened to me 20 odd years ago, there has been no real effort to stop it.. I just don't get why it is acceptable to pass this skill on to the next generation ..
  14. Decent fishing can be found at any wharf.. I go to the local grocery store to buy fresh clams as bait.. just fish the bottom for "flat fish" or flounder. The locals usually welcome you and offer tips. No license is needed for fishing the ocean. I might be going down this year to visit family in Clare/Digby... We drive to Quebec and stop before or at Drummondville for the night so we can pick up some beer at Costco. (It gets expensive in Atlantic Canada for Alcohol). There are plenty of good motels in town... just park near the front doors..Be sure to stop for gas in Cornwall, then NB as the price is about 10 cents a litre more in QC. My cousin has a cottage near Cavendish beach and there are some great beaches nearby.. we go to Thunder cove because it isn't as busy as Cavendish beach itself and its free. Check out province house in Charlettown..so much great history. As for NS, as others have mentioned the South Shore is a great drive. I wish I could go every year....
  15. only problem with firing in the air is where it lands.. which would have put it in line with my house..
  16. I was working nights so I didn't hear the shot.. I know a neighbor there and the consensus in the area is that if you don't steal or trespass, then you won't get shot.. ouch
  17. Hopefully a short fishing/ camping trip with my daughter.. probably not much more than that if anything .. home renovations and a dying father in law will keep me close to home...
  18. As soon as I found out it was an older chev I kinda had an idea of what happened.. this has been going on for as far back as I can remember.. it happened to me 20 years ago when my truck was stolen and found burned out on the edge of the reserve. The problem here is a big one but there is little political willpower to fix it. Like Tims wife Sharlene said " it's just a truck ".. it isn't worth anyone dying for but when you are young your stuff can be very important to you.. now that I'm older I realize that my family is the most precious thing I have.. harm them and you will pay the ultimate price. What I don't get is why was he stealing a truck? This guy is a member of the styres family which is very wealthy !!
  19. I wouldn't drag anything too heavy into the woods. We camp in a car trailer for moose hunting and it's pretty tough on the tow vehicle.. any washout and it hits the ground so it takes hours just to go about 60 kms. A good tent along with cots etc can be pretty comfortable.. be sure to take a dining tent with side walls..
  20. My insert is used daily all winter to supplement my heating and this year it has pretty much rendered my furnace useless . Being a high efficiency unit really stretches my wood supply. If you have blue smoke coming out the chimney then you aren't fully burning the wood. To make it worthwhile for me to heat my house I need the maximum number of BTUs out of the wood. In an urban area it would be foolish to heat with an inefficient stove because there are just too many people that would complain... once up to temperature a high efficiency has almost zero smoke, you can't even tell anything is burning..
  21. With the weather warming up we might have to head waayyy north to fish.. wow ..
  22. I actually talked to the bylaw guy who issues tickets and he told me I was just lucky that I never got a ticket before this. The bylaw was created in 2012 so there has been plenty of time to post signs but like I told them " sounds like something to trap tourists".. the ones who can afford it will have the place to themselves.. they alone won't be able to support the businesses since they aren't there in the winter. I will go to long point where they actually invite you to come fish.. no parking areas are well marked... rotten Ronnies will get my cash..
  23. I might have to venture up to Simcoe soon.. my spot in Georgian Bay is toast.. this is the first year that I've gotten a ticket for parking at the side of the road.. no signs to indicate no parking. I went to the Township office to pay them and to give them a piece of my mind and to tell them I won't spend another penny in their municipality. The fishing sucked too.. I guess the lake is reserved for those that can afford to live on it...
  24. I'll find em..lol.. I was worried they were discontinued..
  25. The last time this post was active was the last time any of the stores had any stock..lol.. coincidence??. I think not.. that's the power of the Internet and why you can't give specific locations where you fish.. now if everyone can ignore this whole thing then I might be able to get a couple before they are gone..
