Trudeau on Rice Lake Tomorrow Friday the 13th
pics replied to esoxansteel's topic in General Discussion
You can't deny that something isn't going on with the climate. Dying coral reefs, acidic oceans, the loss of arctic sea ice etc, etc.. Even if you don't believe in climate change, as outdoors people we should all be concerned about the air and water. I work on a coke ovens battery and the days of letting the ovens emitt smoke are gone and with good reason. Industry and consumers should both be doing whatever it takes to reduce harmful emissions to the environment.. I don't agree with the current cap and trade system or a Carbon tax because we really don't know where the money goes.. -
The North Bay Nugget had a few stories on him.. He had a license to operate on Nosbonsing but the ice was too thin. He defied the MNRF and moved his huts to Nip anyways due to what he calls safety reasons. He also accuses license holders of extortion because they won't sell him theirs.. He's a piece of work..

Depends on the lake.. Valens conservation area used to have great panfish fishing but so many limits were taken that the population crashed.. It has since recovered but only after a strict catch and release policy was enacted..

Hand him a fishing rod.. If he can bait the hook and take the fish off, then that's a good start.. If he can't or doesn't like to get his hands dirty, then we have a problem.. Lol.. This should apply to politicians of all stripes.. -
Too bad I couldn't make it this year.. Not enough time off between Christmas and new years... Maybe next time

when we used to weld a steel vessel the area to be welded was preheated to prevent any cracking later on.. with expansion and contraction the metal is stressed at any weak points.. I wonder if warming it with a torch before welding would help??

Her cousin posted a story about how her ex has been fighting her for custody.. I hate it when one parent wants to win at all costs..

Saw a sailboat on Hamilton harbour . Diehards!! It's going to have to get really cold in a hurry if we want an ice fishing season here..

Turns out that she has a wealthy ex husband that wants to take the girl to Egypt. She has exhausted her bank account fighting him and if he gets his daughter out of the country she will probably never be seen again ...

Those are great eaters... pike are very prolific when the conditions are right .. often to the detriment of other species..

My sister in law fighting for our outdoor rights

The Binbrook Conservation Area is closed to non hunters during the duck/ goose hunt. It's been like that for a very long time but there are some who have to be educated when they try to walk in.. I used to man the gate 20 odd years ago as a volunteer to help keep the hunting program open.. these days the park employees look after it... you will have hikers who want to go in despite the signs and warnings... -
Saw a cabin cruiser out on Hamilton harbour yesterday.. sailboats last week.. winter still seems a ways off apparently..

Clean Disruption NF Electric Cars not that far away!
pics replied to Headhunter's topic in General Discussion
I love the look of the Tesla but there's a certain amount of Range anxiety with all electric cars.. if you had some kind of solar/wind charging system at home that would be cool but I think the chev volt is a better option right now.. -
https://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/wired-success/201407/anti-intellectualism-and-the-dumbing-down-america Funny, I just read this AFTER I wrote my post.. the last few paragraphs seem to be true..

It would seem that the influence of political attack ads have spread to the general public.. opinions aren't discussed online without mud slinging and anger.. we pick political sides based on either what our parents followed or our life experience be it good or bad .. the fake or embellished news stories we see online certainly don't help.. take all news with a grain of salt and be sure to check facts before forming an opinion ....

16 is the standard.. mine is all different sizes depending on what I can scrounge. Tree cutters rarely cut for burning size so I have stuff from 10 to 18 inches.. I also search out hardwood pallets to cut up because they are mostly dry and heat like crazy.. I have a high efficiency insert so 16 inch wood works best... they can be finicky depending on the wind etc.. -
I have both gas AND wood fireplaces .. the wood is an airtight insert that draws air from outside .. it also has a fan to to move the heat from the fire box to the room above.. The basement can be cold even with a hot fire due to transferring of heat.. The air temperature from the register gets to 50c but I have a drafty house so it doesn't cover the whole place .. I don't pay for wood but if I did it wouldn't make financial sense to heat with it. Insulating the house better and making it a gas fireplace is the way to go but I like the tradition of wood..

My wife hates fishing..lol. She would rather watch golf on TV and she hates that too...the bass will probably bite as long as the weather holds like it has..
