  1. After cooking and smoking a few things in that pizza oven that I rebuilt and converted to propane; I finally had a chance to bake a pizza. First I’d like to show you guys the jalapeño, scotch bonnets and fingerling peppers I smoked in the oven. The smoke generator that Big Cliff inspired me to build works great. Fills the oven with a good load of smoke. People walking by kept warning me that I was burning whatever I was baking LOL After the 6 hours of smoking at about 150 degrees of oven heat. The peppers went into the dehydrator for another 6 hours. After that it was into the grinder to turn it into a nice shaker powder. Yes that’s a coffee grinder but it works good as a spice grinder. Ok on to my pizza Tried rolling out the dough but ended up with a square? What the hell is so hard with making a round pizza??? LOL Started out with some olive oil rubbed on the dough, then a meaty layer of tomato sauce, course grated mozzarella cheese, red onion, mushrooms, beacon, pepperoni, Parmesan cheese and another bit of spicy tomato sauce on top All said and done it was nice and full of flavour. Next time I need to remember that things cook/bake very quickly at 600 degrees. Outer crust was a bit burnt but the rest was a nice bite. Dan.

  2. I now sit on the fifth hole of his golf course. Loved watching him. When he owned the course I heard from a reliable source that he would ride a golf cart down Clarence while tipsy and go get pears at a house near Hwy 7. He also sold Christmas trees at Bathurst and St Clair for a few years. kinda like Mr B, happy go lucky type of a guy.

  3. I just found out that they closed the boat ramp at La Fortune Park in Caledonia. It was the only free launch above the Caledonia Dam that I know of. What follows is a copy of what I wrote to the alderman and mayor regarding this. Feel free to copy and paste, edit to your satisfaction and submit as well. While I am not a constituent of yours, I do frequent your constituency frequently. Namely Caledonia business center and La Fortune Park. I find that park to be a hidden treasure of Caledonia and one of the only free boat launches on the section of the Grand above Caledonia dam. I would submit to you that it is a vital recourse for those who cannot afford the $15 launch fee or $35-$50 per day fee at the neighboring Harrison's Landing to enjoy one of our most important natural resources, the water. My understanding from the gate staff at Harrison's Landing is that the launch was closed due to safety concerns. Namely the drop off at the end of the concrete portion of the ramp. I would submit to you that that is a situation that can be dealt with by the use of a single triaxle load of rip-rap granular and 1 machine hour with a large mini excavator. Please do not deprive us of our water access and restore this valuable community asset.

  5. My wife's family cottage on Sturgeon was right down the road of Eddies. She told me that he would load up his golf cart with his dogs and go out and visit the neighbours to the delight of all the kids. Great man! HH

  6. Thats what I figured. I planned on going, opening the windows is a good idea as well. The hand washing and disinfecting is a given. Also making sure everyone is taking the necessary precautions leading up to the trip and limit exposure where possible. I don't get to see my Dad as much as I like and this is our 1 week a year to do what we have been doing for the last 20 years together.... just fish.

  7. I am totally impressed with the outer skin. It is like navy material. Super tough stuff. I was out yesterday and the waves were getting 1ft+. Never felt uncomfortable. I will be picking up a MK Endura C2 30 lb thrust for it. I tried the battery in a milk crate at the bow. That thing didn't even put a dent in the level floating of it. Will now work on setting up the finder on the crate as well. The crate is high enough to make a bracket that will support the transducer off the side. The floating one right now works great, but while it,s bobbing around, I am not getting a real defined pic on the screen. Will post once I have it all rigged up the way I like it and working . Hear salmon are on the move, so might put a dent on that, as I don't really need the motor or the finder for them. Oh wait, the motor comes for the ride back up the river.LOL

  8. A bit of extra ballast never hurts a boat's stability! 😉 Nice rig, Brian. I bought one of those a number of years ago and never even launched it. It was a good idea at the time, but I always ended up taking the Sylvan out fishing rather than haul fifty pounds in to a back lake.............. Doug

  11. I had heard that the Summer Salmon season was going well so we had to go try it ourselves. Myself & 3 friends went out for a morning fish out of Lakefront Promenade. Tons of bait around and so were the Kings. I do believe that we went 8 for 11 for the morning with 3 in the 18-20 lbs. range. Lots of fun, gonna get back out there soon!

  14. I was hoping to go back to Totem Point Lodge (Wolseley Bay) this summer but not sure I'll be able to. They've made some changes (for the better from what friends tell me) and would love to see what they've done. It's some beautiful waters there and the scenery is, imo, on par with the West Arm, but on a more intimate scale. I found the fish a bit more complaint in the West Arm area however and fwiw, there have always been lots of Ohio and Pennsylvania plates when I've been up.

  16. Great to hear that the camps from muskoka to temagami are booking up and it sounds like your after good accomadations with easily accessible water. I would look at the lodges between sudbury and the sault like waterfalls, birch or laurentian. This stretch is usually more dominated by American guests so openings shouldn't be a issue.

  20. Memquisit Lodge, West Bay Lake Nipissing. More of a rustic fishing lodge but I like it! Booked a cabin last minute myself a few weeks ago. Many of their cabins are boat access or a short hike.

  22. The torque of the motor naturally causes a boat to lean to the left/port under power , that is why they are set up with the driver's seat on the right /starboard to offset this, does it level out under power ?

  23. A 16' Legend isn't a very big boat and if your in the boat by yourself your 200lbs will definitely throw the boat over to the right side. It could very well be wet foam but I'm guessing it may just be your own weight all on one side plus the added weight of the steering console that's causing the issue.
