MJIG Posted December 4, 2015 Report Posted December 4, 2015 It doesn't look like anyone in Southern Ontario will get frozen lakes as a gift this year. http://www.theweathernetwork.com/14-day-weather-trend/canada/ontario/barrie On the other hand, I'm not complaining that I haven't had to shovel a whole lot yet.
Acountdeleted Posted December 4, 2015 Report Posted December 4, 2015 I'm not keeping my fingers crossed. It's a shame, usually I'm on cooks the first week of Jamuary. Might have to test some of the back lakes then.
AKRISONER Posted December 4, 2015 Report Posted December 4, 2015 hey its no different than last year folks, and last winter was bloody epic mild december, but the winter outlook calls for more vortex in February. Id take a hard freeze in Jan Feb, over sketchy snow covered ice that never freezes in december! We didnt have ice in PAB until the second week of January last year which is unheard of but ended up having the best ice weve ever had!
lew Posted December 4, 2015 Report Posted December 4, 2015 the winter outlook calls for more vortex in February. We used to just call them cold days
manitoubass2 Posted December 4, 2015 Report Posted December 4, 2015 Latest ive ever put the boat in the water was november 18th Im heading out soon for walleye, its +4 in NW ontario and extended forecast might have me on soft water until christmas Which is kinda awesome and a bummer at the same time lol

I was on the ice the first weekend in December, in Simcoe County on 3.5" to 5" solid black ice. Same spot right now is obviously open water. A very big difference from last year I would say This is a very depressing season for early ice crappies.

Sinker Posted December 4, 2015 Report Posted December 4, 2015 It will freeze sooner or later. I'm ok either way. If it stays open, I can still hunt ducks and fish. If it freezes, i can hunt ducks and fish. Life is good LOL S.

I still remember reading posts about how we were seen from the hwy from passer bys. LOL You guys posted the 1st OFC ice report of the season, beating me out by a day or less. I remember that. I am actually fine with this weather. November was a piece of cake, the long term forecast is warm, next weekend 11 degrees here. I'll get out on the ice later. For now, I'm enjoying not freezing my nuts off.

Never ice fished in a rainstorm before. Dynamic_Bear thought that was open water behind us. Just awesome.
mike rousseau Posted December 5, 2015 Report Posted December 5, 2015 The longer I get to fish by boat the better.... At this point i'm 99% sure I'll be in my boat during the Christmas holidays this year... Water it still 45 degrees today and 2 week forecast is warm..
Freshtrax Posted December 5, 2015 Report Posted December 5, 2015 hell or highwater i will be jigging lakers on simcoe jan 1st.....it just may be from a boat
Consigliere Posted December 5, 2015 Report Posted December 5, 2015 Every year the last few have had the boat docked till Jan in the Larry then back in in April. This year looks good to be able to try to keep it in till Feb then back in in March. Hopefully not out at all. Soft water fishing in the winter is great.
12footspringbok Posted December 5, 2015 Report Posted December 5, 2015 Told myself other than maybe a perching or 2 I was going to take this winter off from ice fishing. Sold both my gas augers, and looks like I may have picked the right winter to take a break. Hopefully the fish get a nice break this year too, and we'll both be ready for the ice next winter.
