splashhopper Posted August 1, 2011 Report Posted August 1, 2011 Hair is growing like crazy as well.. she's praying it comes in straight as it's been curly all her life and she's one of the funny gals that has to straighten it before going out ! That is great news and an even greater outlook on life.
woodenboater Posted August 1, 2011 Report Posted August 1, 2011 That is unbelievable progress and great news! I never would have figured someone would be in a pool three weeks out of major surgery, she's got some strong will in her and imagine she must be quite a force ! wb

spinnerbaitking Posted August 1, 2011 Report Posted August 1, 2011 She is truely an amazing girl, you have raised her to be one hell of a fighter, there is no limit that will stop her from doing what ever she wants or going were ever she wants, not much of a praying man you take what ever you want or need SBK
splashhopper Posted August 1, 2011 Report Posted August 1, 2011 AWESOME video Wayne ... thank you so much for sharing your daughters incredible journey with us.
Rich Clemens Posted August 1, 2011 Report Posted August 1, 2011 And to think Jen wasn't even expected to be out of the hospital for weeks yet. Really is great to wake up to stories like this. Thanks Wayne.
irishfield Posted August 1, 2011 Author Report Posted August 1, 2011 Thanks guys and yes Rich, you've got that right... she wasn't even supposed to try standing up until around August 20th!! Her biggest issue right now is she's having some issues with pain/burning in her right foot the last few days. We figure it's the nerve endings that got cut at her hip trying to repair themselves. She's still on track to attending beerfest with her friends on the weekend and then we're hoping she's up for heading North with us to enjoy the lake. If not, we'll have to make do with the pool and I'll be hitting GBay for Muskie instead.
Spiel Posted August 1, 2011 Report Posted August 1, 2011 I've been flabbergasted at the speed with which Jen is moving forward. Incredible! You are amazing Jen!
Leecher Posted August 1, 2011 Report Posted August 1, 2011 I too I'm amazed at the speed of Jen's recovery I've said it before and say it again.... AN INSPIRATION TO US ALL :worthy:
SRT8 smoker craft Posted August 1, 2011 Report Posted August 1, 2011 A truley Amazing young women your Daughter is Wayne hard to beleive she's home and chillin at the pool when she's not even supposed to have "tried" to walk yet her courage and dedication to beating this is inspiring
bassnass Posted August 1, 2011 Report Posted August 1, 2011 So cool! Man, how good must swimmin in the pool on a sunny day must've felt for her!
irishfield Posted August 8, 2011 Author Report Posted August 8, 2011 Here's Jen and her friends, giving my custom mounted sampling cup holders a whirl at the bandshell Beerfest on Saturday. Hot miserable day... she made it from 1 until 5:40 when she called for pick up suffering from a little heat exhaustion. All in all Jen is doing well, other than she's having issues with her right foot feeling like it's burning all the time. Causing her a lot of restless nights and days, with nothing seeming to help it. I believe they're phantom pains from nerves cut in her hip. Her surgeon called in a script today to our local pharm and Leah's off to pick it up... sure hope it works at killing the nerve ending issues.

irishfield Posted August 27, 2011 Author Report Posted August 27, 2011 Now to try to get some weight back on her.. she's down to 85lbs again Paul.
mercman Posted August 27, 2011 Report Posted August 27, 2011 Shes probably more active now than she has been in a while. Her body is starting to feel better and she will have to eat more protein to rebuild lost msucle. Feed her lots of carbs Again, an amazing recovery so far Wayne.

Feed her lots of carbs Again, an amazing recovery so far Wayne. Issue is she's not hungry on Hydromorphone. We even tried some fancy cookies, with a little help from some OFC friends for ingredients. It's a bugger getting to the bathroom, on crutches, at 3am when you're stoned I'm told... Edited August 27, 2011 by irishfield
mercman Posted August 27, 2011 Report Posted August 27, 2011 Trust me Ya can always get her a potty, and keep it under the bed.Eating when your not hungry takes practice. I do it all the time. 5,6,even 7 times a day
irishfield Posted September 14, 2011 Author Report Posted September 14, 2011 (edited) Had her 2 month post op check up last Tuesday. Lung and pelvic x-rays are clear, thank God, and she's booked for MRI/CT's in October. The young lad noted a few pages back with the same right pelvic Ewing's, that Jen bought toys for his 18th, has 14 spots on his lungs now. and he isn't even done the chemo sessions for the pelvic bone. Surgeon pulled Jen's leg a ways out.. and let the muscles pull it back in. He's happy and she's now allowed to start putting weight on the leg and to do physio. One freaky x-ray I'll tell you with that femur ball all alone in tissue land with no mates to play with! Edited September 14, 2011 by irishfield
mercman Posted September 14, 2011 Report Posted September 14, 2011 Great news about Jen, Wayne .Sad about the young lad though. Thanks for the update. I was thinking about you guys earlier today.
bigbuck Posted September 14, 2011 Report Posted September 14, 2011 Good to hear that Jen is doing great!!! As for the young lad you mentioned, I hope he keeps on fighting.
irishfield Posted September 29, 2011 Author Report Posted September 29, 2011 (edited) Amazing what goals can do for one's recovery. Since Novemember Jen has worried about being Maid of Honour for her (since jr kindergarten) girlfriend. Well she came through with flying colours and helped make the day a success on Saturday. She didn't sleep at all the night before worried that she would slip on the wet grass of the hill and slide down it on her arse. You can see the concern or amazement on the faces of some of the guests as she tackles the hill without issue after over 24 hours of rain. Unfortunately we weren't there, but our son grabbed a few hundred shots during the day. Wedding day was a long day for Jen.. out for makeup at 9am and I picked her exhausted body up at 10pm from the reception hall. So exhausted that she came home and got sick, and has taken about 3 days to get her energy back. Getting pretty good at that one leg balancing act! Edited January 12, 2012 by irishfield
