msp Posted June 1, 2009 Report Posted June 1, 2009 Had this picture sent to me today. Apparently it was Lake Ontario out in the west end. 29++++ pounds.
johnnyb Posted June 1, 2009 Report Posted June 1, 2009 Whoa!!! That IS a biggun...sheesh. Kinda looks like he kept it....can't really imagine why, unless he doesn't like repro-mounts. Amazing fish nonetheless!!!
dave524 Posted June 1, 2009 Report Posted June 1, 2009 Whoa!!! That IS a biggun...sheesh. Kinda looks like he kept it....can't really imagine why, unless he doesn't like repro-mounts. Amazing fish nonetheless!!! Derby winner I believe, rules.
CLofchik Posted June 1, 2009 Report Posted June 1, 2009 Derby winner I believe, rules. What he said, St.Catherines Spring Salmon Derby. There's been some fraud in the past and they want to examine every winning fish now. That could be a big money fish once you add up all the bonuses. http://www.scgameandfish.net/
endless Posted June 1, 2009 Report Posted June 1, 2009 What an absolutely horrible waste. That old girl would be pretty much inedible, not to even talk about the pollution in it from Lake Ontario.
TJQ Posted June 1, 2009 Report Posted June 1, 2009 That is one big fish... wow. Is a trout that size past its reproducing age??
CLofchik Posted June 1, 2009 Report Posted June 1, 2009 That is one big fish... wow. Is a trout that size past its reproducing age?? For Lake O probably not, they grow alot quicker down here than the Boreal giants.
johnnyb Posted June 1, 2009 Report Posted June 1, 2009 Well, hopefully he wins the tournament with it...if you find out the exact weight/girth/length, I'd love to hear it
TroutnMuskieHunter Posted June 1, 2009 Report Posted June 1, 2009 Now that's one big Laker!!...Congrats to the guy that caught it ....sure looks bigger than 29lbs though.
anders Posted June 1, 2009 Report Posted June 1, 2009 Yet most people are quite and dont say nothing about people that keep big salmon. Great fish, and congrats to that guy on a great catch!!!
BillM Posted June 1, 2009 Report Posted June 1, 2009 My oldman won the Lake Trout category in the St.Catharines Game and Fish derby when I was a kid. Still have the mount downstairs He won a Johnson 9.9, some berkley rods and a wackload of other stuff.
LeXXington Posted June 1, 2009 Report Posted June 1, 2009 Big lakers take a long time to grow compared to Salmon. Great fish would have been a great fight. Keeping this size fish is well within the rules of fishing and no shame intended. congrats to the fisherman
Leecher Posted June 2, 2009 Report Posted June 2, 2009 Awesome laker What a hog Thanks for sharing msp!!! Leechman
Terry Posted June 2, 2009 Report Posted June 2, 2009 now that's a lake trout he had every right to keep it, if he wanted to so I will not try to impose my morals on him
Whitespinnerbait Posted June 2, 2009 Report Posted June 2, 2009 That's a Beast and a Half right there...
fishdawg Posted June 2, 2009 Report Posted June 2, 2009 by all accounts its been a great year on Lake O for lakers.... the St Cath derby ususally gives a good representation of the Laker fishery As does the vrious LOC derbies held on the NY side of the lake. The last few yrs most of the 1st place lakers are generally 20-24lbs. I cant remember the last time there was one over 25. Catch of a liftetime for 'ol Roho indeed. Congrats once again bud. I would have kept it as well.
Another Canadian Posted June 2, 2009 Report Posted June 2, 2009 Had this picture sent to me today. Apparently it was Lake Ontario out in the west end. 29++++ pounds. The picture was taken at Fishermans Pier under the Skyway bridge. You can see the Steel companies in the background. Must be recent as there doesn't seem to be as much smoke/steam coming from them as usual.
Guest ThisPlaceSucks Posted June 2, 2009 Report Posted June 2, 2009 (edited) i don't see the point in keeping a trophy sized fish of a species that isn't doing so well in lake ontario but it was within his "legal" right. Edited June 2, 2009 by Dr. Salvelinus
BillM Posted June 2, 2009 Report Posted June 2, 2009 i don't see the point in keeping a trophy sized fish of a species that isn't doing so well in lake ontario but it was within his "legal" right. It's a tournament, or are people forgetting that?
Guest ThisPlaceSucks Posted June 2, 2009 Report Posted June 2, 2009 not forgetting, i just care more about the health of a fishery and anglers attitudes towards conservation than i do a competition. nice fish regardless.
troutologist Posted June 2, 2009 Report Posted June 2, 2009 Fish looks almost too fat. Is that common for bigger fish from Lake O? I'd almost venture to guess thats a sterile female based on the sloppy stomach and seemingly too short length. The way the tail gets fat right away... Nice fish anyways. Just reminds me of that 102lber from Athabasca
TJQ Posted June 2, 2009 Report Posted June 2, 2009 now that's a lake trout he had every right to keep it, if he wanted to so I will not try to impose my morals on him That is correct!
Guest ThisPlaceSucks Posted June 2, 2009 Report Posted June 2, 2009 he who keeps first complains first when they are all gone.
BUSTER Posted June 2, 2009 Report Posted June 2, 2009 It's a tournament, or are people forgetting that? how about its his right to keep that fish and do what he wants with it? poor guy cant even post a pic of a fish without getting guilt trips about it..
