  1. I lived in Pickle for a few years flying food to the natives. The fishing was the best I've ever seen in that area. Legit limits of any species you wanted in 5 minutes. That was from shore too. If you had a boat it was truly out of this world. Another thing out of this world was the bugs. Anyone who hasn't lived in the true North (read 5hrs + north of Thunder Bay) can't even begin to imagine what I'm talking about.
  2. the GPS was always available to civilians. It used to send out two signals though, one much more accurate military only signal, and one civilian use signal which still was quite good. They stopped encoding the upgraded signal when they gained the ability to selectively block the precision signal to certain areas of the world.
  3. Mostly carp immediately upstream of the dam. I had a canoe up there in the small lake type area formed upstream of the dam and saw a bunch of them. Nothing crazy big, just normal sized carp. Fished the top area there with spinners and a few other baits and caught one very small bass. Not sure if the bottom has anything more interesting, but if not I certainly wouldn't bother.
  4. *roughly* how much would the winning fish weigh? I've seen some pictures from previous derbies and they looked 4-5lbs?
  5. I got some this spring for trout fishing. Tried the 4lb test for resident brown trout. The line was absolutely useless, in fact useless would be a true compliment to this line. I'd definitely never buy it again under any circumstances.
  6. What an absolutely horrible waste. That old girl would be pretty much inedible, not to even talk about the pollution in it from Lake Ontario.
  7. The plane is actually a C-17 globemaster. The Herc has 4 propellers. It's pretty much impossible to tell ya if it's a Canadian one from that range. There is occasionally globemasters from other countries going into Trenton, though it's mostly Canadian ones.
  8. Every time I head out there with the dog, there's at least 2-3 people out there any time of any day. Everyone keeping everything, it's absolutely insane.
  9. I went out with 3 other friends and fished some good looking water for literally hours. Between the 4 of us we landed 3 perch, the largest of which was about 4" long.
  10. I think you'd have the best luck in Bronte creek. There's a few nice stretches just to the north of Burlington.
  11. jetsgo hasn't existed for about 5 years. WestJet is seldom the cheapest option anymore. The in flight entertainment and extra leg room on the air canada planes blows the WJ crap out of the water. Even when they're cheaper, I'll gladly pay an extra $20 for the pleasure of not having an uncomfortable flight. There's a reason Air Canada has been voted best North American airline for the last few years. And can you really put a price on not having to groan through the corny jokes at westjet? A direct flight into either winnipeg or thunder bay with a bus to kenora would be the very cheapest option. Depending on how important a few hours to you is, the bearskin flight might be worth it.
  12. Has anyone had any luck with calling the MNR or Parks guys and having them come over?
  13. you're totally right WW. I have a halton parks vehicle pass which I use for mountain biking and dog walking. I checked the other 8 vehicles in the lot and I was the only one who'd payed to be there. Next time I'll add the parks guys to my list so they can come fine them too. I hate to be such a tattle tale, but there's going to be nothing left after these jerks are done with it.
  14. Was out at Mountsberg on Friday. 14 people out poaching pike in the sun. I called the MNR. Hopefully they sent someone out to round up the idiots out there. Saw many keep pike and put them into plastic bags. More morons out fishing off the tracks. Hope they got the $500 tresspass fine ontop of the out of season fines.
  15. thanks for the info. When you say waterfall, don't you mean hilton falls? I didn't kelso had a waterfall.
  16. Maybe someone can help me. I'm trying to track down a list of what might be hinding in Kelso. I've heard at some point there were stocked trout in there, I'd assume they were rainbows. Some say there's bass in there, I'd assume largemouth? Seems to be a consensus that there's panfish. Does that include crappie, or just sunfish, rock bass, bluegills, etc? Don't suppose there's any perch or pike in there? Anyone have any experiences with fishing in there? Thanks
  17. Cool, those are all great tips guys. The day the ice goes off I'm gonna be out there seeing what I can find!
  18. Thanks for the tips. Where do they usually spawn? Is there a certain depth of water that seems to hold the in the spring?
  19. I have a lake picked out that holds crappie. I've never fished them in the spring, and was wondering if anyone would share some techniques for bringing in some decent sized fish. Are they attracted to any one part of the lake? Is there a certain depth range to target them in? Are they feeding heavily pre-spawn? If so, where do they spawn, and where should you target them? What kind of presentation has been successful for you guys? I've heard that a float with a ultra small jig below it can produce. Any other techniques? size 0 or 00 spinners? The lake I plan it hit is about a 1 - 2 mile diameter oval shape. There is no marina, or docks to fish from. So I'll take out a canoe and see what I can find. The entire lake is very shallow. The deepest point might be 10', with the vast majority being 3-5' depth. The bottom is 99% mud/weed. There's a small stream running in one side, which flows into a very very shallow basin. There is one area that has a man made rock pile which drops into the lakes deepest water. Should I focus on a certain weed type, or are they around cover? Thanks in advance. I realize it's a million questions. Just never been out for this kinda thing, and I figured I'd try to ask a few questions and cut down on the guess work. When I do get out I'll post a report and let you know how your tips worked.
  20. are you guys going for them through the ice, or in small areas of water that's begun to open up in marinas or bays or something? I'd like to try this year, and have a lake in mind. I just need to know what parts of the lake to target, and what kind of bait works the best. I've heard using really small jigs under a bobber is okay? any suggestions?
  21. Some of their inability to do a good job, is because they're stuck with insane labour contracts that they can't change.
  22. Bill: Certainly there aren't many people silly to believe that overpaid line workers are the sole cause of the auto sector failing. However, it's equally as foolish to believe that overpaid line workers aren't a contributing factor. Poor management, producing a sub par product for decades, etc, etc have all done their share too.
  23. Diltsy: do you have any pictures of it?
  24. 3D mode has nothing to do with WAAS. You need 4 or more satellites in reception to get an altitude readout, and 3 or more to get a LAT/LONG readout. It has to do with triangulation of the signals not augmentation.
