jjcanoe Posted May 2, 2008 Report Posted May 2, 2008 Is it Bob? Carl? Steve? Could be a pumpkinseed / longear hybrid. jjcanoe
bigfish1965 Posted May 2, 2008 Report Posted May 2, 2008 There has been lots of pumpkinseed/sunfish hybrids here in ponds so maybe it is happening there too.
Fish Farmer Posted May 2, 2008 Report Posted May 2, 2008 Blue Gill, great tasting. Look very much like Sunfish.

Burning Babies Posted May 2, 2008 Report Posted May 2, 2008 Longears are beautiful. One of my favorite Lepomis spp.
addict Posted May 2, 2008 Report Posted May 2, 2008 thats an elvis impersonator sunfish note the sideburns
sfgibson1 Posted May 2, 2008 Report Posted May 2, 2008 Longear Sunfish - pumpkinseeds have a red spot on the operculum while longears do not. Bluegills have blue to the edge of the operculum whereas longears have an operculum rimmed in white (similar to pumpkinseed). Greens have a much bigger mouth than longears as well. Longears are more prevalent in southern Ontario compared to Pumpkinseed and bluegill.
