  1. One of the few actual fishing reports on the board right now and a pretty good one, lots of nice specks and nice laker. Thanks for sharing this.
  2. I remember posting about Cameco's uranium tailings a few months ago. Unfortunately the Ganny could be in a bit of a toxic wasteland.
  3. Cameco has been dumping radioactive tailings in the Ganny and Port Hope harbor for many, many years. Might explain the black crud bubbling up from the bottom. Here is a picture of tarped tailings near a playground in Port Hope.
  4. Ha Ha, way to go on the pikes there Grant The humour of this post belies the fact of the difficulty of catching said fishes at this time of the year. I think that last fish is a nuclearized Northern Big-Eyed Pic (sic). Usually they are netted in that phase and sold to Dollaramas. As long as that C.O isn't watching. Tough identification there. ehg
  5. That video shows the skills of fighting and landing a decent pike through the ice. Well done on the camera angles etc... Thanks for sharing.
  6. Very healthy looking lakers there! Good to see you getting out and enjoying the great white north. Thanks for the report and pictures.
  7. Decided to check this out myself since this store is a 5 minute drive and a few groceries were needed. The largies were advertised as 'Green Bass' at 8.99 lb. There was thousands of people already there and vrobably more to go, must be farmed fish or from U.S. My gut feeling was it was somehow legal.
  8. Sorry for your loss. I found that getting back out fishing helped ease the pain when those close to me perished. Your father will always be proud of you. Take care of yourself through these tough moments. Godspeed, ehg
  9. Sometimes i go to the same store Patrick and always felt there was something 'fishy' going on there. They did change the fish department distributor a bit ago, not for the better. I will never buy fish there and never have. Seems like less carp in the tank there these days.
  10. Not sure of the Chrysler motor bashing, i've had a 9.9 Chrysler for 27 yrs. now which still starts on first pull and has had very little maintenance. Gone through Johnson and Evinrudes which have worn out during that time. 5 or 6 hundred dollars if everything checks out isn't so bad an offer. You will still need a few hundred dollars for a hitch and trailer. Good luck
  11. Nice way to spend time in the outdoors. That dog sledding looks like a thrill, great videos That first bird is a Pine Grosbeak, i think the second smaller one is a common redpoll. Great pictures and story, thanks for sharing.
  12. Congrats on that real fine laker.
  13. Seeing that wolf probably made the day. Thanks for sharing, ehg
  14. Great multi-species ice fishing report. Those whitefish are big. Nice report as usual, like the videos!
  15. There have been 2 tiger muskies caught over 50 lbs in Lac Vieux, Wisconsin. The Ontario record is around 35 lbs from Longlegged Lake in NW Ontario. So it's not a world record but an ice fishing tip-up record. Nice fish all the same.

Nice bunch of trouts from the Niagara I'm thinking it's a good thing your on Team 1. We'll do good this year!
  17. Some nice specks there! Great way to spend time with the kids on Family Day.
  18. WTG tjsa! Not bad for first fishing trip in 6 months. Nice walleyes!
  19. Thanks for further replies. That Gizzard Shad fought like a sheepshead, but was quite undesirable. Usually the Browns are still hitting until mid- April, i stop fishing for them at end of March. There are still decent walleye to be caught like in my avatar. Glad some folks still enjoyed this less than stellar report. Cheers, ehg
  20. Nice job putting this all together for Tyler again this year. That is a real great turnout, and hard work by you.
  21. Thanks for the replies! Probably the worst fishing day out there, never had 'blown' conditions in this area. The gizzard shad was pretty strange however, too bad it was so slimy and kinda smelled strong. The motorcycle on the ice was real cool though. The fella said the tires were factory tires. The studs weren't sharp they seemed more like they crushed the ice for traction. Hopefully will have better luck with the fishing next time. cheers, ehg
  22. Thanks for sharing this expansive and memorable report! That has to be the best summer job going.
  23. Very nicely done replica of a near record Ontario white crappie! I remember that catch and mega-thread very well. http://www.ofncommunity.com/forums/index.p...32&hl=beats Thanks for sharing again, ehg
  24. Bunch of great photos! Thanks for sharing, ehg
  25. Had some morning obligations but was still able to get out fishing this afternoon with my buddy Dave. Tried our usual spot to see what was happening. Got all prepared and arrived there to see the whole northern shore of Lake Ontario looking like chocolate milk in this area. We still went out thinking it would clear once away from shore. You can't really tell from picture above but visibility was less than a foot from all the rain and melted snow dumping in the lake a couple days ago. No matter how far out from shore it was still murky. Turned out to be one of the lesser excursions but still managed some fish. Dave managed some decent white bass. Some pictures more and more Caught one of these things you don't see to often It is a gizzard shad. They are plant eaters so i think i snagged it in it's face. Probably why they are rarely caught. Actually was not the best fishing day but was nice to get out on softwater and cast etc... Saw this oddness when arriving back at the vehicle Some dude was ripping around on the ice on his motorcycle. It was pretty wicked and he was going fast. Once he stopped to show his tires which were studded. He said the faster you go and sharper you turn the more they dig in the ice. Pretty cool stuff!
