Where were you on September 11th 2001 at 08:30?
Headhunter replied to Old Ironmaker's topic in General Discussion
I was at work, downtown core, right beside First Canadian Place. That office, had just been down-sized from 20 people, to just one, me! I was working on transitioning to a new company and by myself in the office. My new boss was working from an office, three blocks away. My mother in law called me to tell me of the first plane. I trotted down to the coffee shop on the main floor, as I knew they had tv's throughout the shop. I was standing there, sipping my coffee, when the 2nd plane hit... strangest thing I have ever seen. I went back to work, hoping someone from my new company would call and let me know what their plans were, and I waited.... About two hours into it, I finally decided to call myself and was told that they had forgotten about me and that they had already sent everyone home!!!!! Rumours at the time were that Toronto's financial district would likely be a target as well, so, I locked up and went home to watch the events unfold. My wife, pregnant at the time was in tears, thinking that the world was about to end and is this the kind of world we want to bring a child into? A remarkable day to be sure.... HH -
My reel is clicking. Not working properly.
Headhunter replied to rhymobot's topic in General Discussion
I don't own a Shimano reel! The OP suggested that he is not currently an avid fisherman, which to me means that he will not be using the reel every day or weekend. His budget is somewhat restricted, so I suggested a reel that has performed flawlessly for me for a few years. Are they the best reel on the market, obviously not, but for limited use they have been just fine. I don't need a Lexus to go to the grocery store. HH -

A little off topic, but I thought I'd pass along a recent tire/rim experience I had with my Ford Flex. i had my shop do a tire rotation and afterwards, the truck was shaking badly at highway speed. Shop thought the balance may be out so they checked all four tires. Well, it appears that I had a bent rim. Here's where the head shaking begins! Ford wants $1,200 all in for a new rim! My gut hurt from laughing at that price!!!! Called a few wreckers and sourced a used rim out of Quebec... $330 all in. HH

My wife's Aunt and Uncle live on the outskirts of Honey Harbour. They have a bear that has made itself at home in their back yard. Last year, it took most of their lawn furniture back int the woods. This year, it just sits on their back deck and watches the Olympics. HH

Agreed... but what you neglected to also mention is that all those administrative types also receive full benefits and an indexed pension. Take a look at some jurisdictions in the US... the pensions negotiated in the past have come back to haunt those places as the pension commitment absorbs most of their tax dollars. Cops riding buses to crime scenes in Detroit because they don't have the money to pay for cars or gas. Strong vibrant neighbourhoods abandoned because they can't afford law enforcement in an entire town. HH

Preacher is one messed up show, so much so, that I find myself looking forward to each week, just to see what the heck is going to happen next. HH -
I'd rather fish with Trump. Unless Hillary has a camo business suit. HH

Nice job Bernie! Now get out in the boat with your drone and do some filming/flying! HH

FishnSled just had his transom replaced on his Crestliner. The wood was soaked and the transom spongy. if your is the same design, it will rot as well. Crestliner puts a metal cap across the top of the transom, but does not seal the cap. After years of use, water splashing up would make it's way into the top of the transom and get stuck there. It yours is the same design, I would highly recommend that you remove the cap, seal it with either a rubber gasket or calking. HH

I was at that show. Nash the Slash opened, then The J Geils Band (Centerfold was their hit at the time), then Heart and finally, The Who. If I recall correctly, it was a July show, extremely hot and "heat lightning was flashing all over the sky. HH

My first "show" was Rush, with Max Webster opening, during the "Farewell to Kings" tour. I've seen countless shows since, with the highlights being; - The Tubes - incredible show - The Who - four times -Blue Oyster Cult opening for Black Sabbath in Detroit -Ozzy - With Randy Rhoads -AC/DC - Back in Black tour -Van Halen - in 1979 and 80 Thinking about it, probably easier to mention who I haven't seen, than seen! Ouch! With any luck, the fish will be cleaned by the time you get home! HH

You can't expect folks who have put in countless hours and hard work, to simply hand out the kind of info you seem to be taking trivially. That and the fact that this site has more lurkers then posters and you have a recipe for disaster on a number of levels. HH

Nit picking about someone's error here is like nit picking about the model of car that hit the hotdog lady in Toronto yesterday. Completely classless and shows no respect for the 49 dead. The fact that you can find any humour in this tragedy speaks more about you, and your beliefs that the President not being a firearms expert. Don't need to know anything about guns to know that what happened and what will again happen, should nothing change. BTW - Trump couldn't one iota about the victims in Orlando, they weren't going to be voting for him anyway! HH

Dispute over flat earth leads of fire
Headhunter replied to kickingfrog's topic in General Discussion
In something of a similar vein, I have a neighbour who believes that the earth is only 5 thousand years old! He's highly intelligent, very aware of his life and surroundings, yet insists that the dinosaurs roamed the earth less than 5 thousand years ago. Will argue that carbon dating is a man made tool that is completely wrong and the the dino's were only on earth for a very short time. How about that for a belief structure? HH -

May long weekend carp report! 3+11+27+15 = 56!

Holy carp fest! Carp are a fantastic way to get kids into fishing and kudos to you, family and friends for the learning experience. HH -
A quick Google check indicates that toddlers in the U.S. have killed more people in 2015 than terrorists. So far this year, 23 people have been killed by toddlers in the U.S.. Please don't start with the analogy of how many people have been killed in cars this year we all know that toddlers can't reach the pedals and steer at the same time. HH Ps - to Art I hope you understand that the reason we do this kind of thing is that we care about our neighbours to the south. If we didn't care, we would be up here eating popcorn watching the carnage ensue.
