  1. Thanks guys! Appreciate you input! I was told that Pacific Black Cod is very rare and the best that the Pacific has to offer. It was suggested that I steam the fish in order to fully enjoy what it has to offer. Shag, I am hesitant to just batter it up, like any other fish. Brian, I know it aint smelt and that's why it's still in my freezer, but I think your suggestion will likely be the recipe I follow for my first crack at the cod. HH
  2. I think I'd rather be lucky than handy! Becoming handy is usually the result of hard work and effort. Being lucky is just that, luck. HH
  3. If you can't be handsome Chris, being lucky is a close second! HH
  4. My niece lives in Prince Rupert and made a stop at my place a couple of weeks ago on her way to a three week trip across Europe. She over-nighted here at my place in Toronto and when she opened her luggage here at the house, half he bag was filled with frozen, vac packed fish. She has been in "the Rupe" for a number of years and has be-befriended a number of First Nations folks. Many are fisherman and have invited her to go out and fish with them. They eat fresh seafood as often as they like. So, her little care package contains; -15 pounds of Pacific Halibut -a number of Chum Salmon fillets -half a dozen Pacific Black cod The Halibut was simply delicious, prepared with my own coating. I have yet to cook any of the Cod, could use some advice on a good recipe if anyone has one! HH
  5. Bautista seems to be suffering from some form of brain damage! He has always been an aggressive fielder, but historically, he made good decisions. Of late, he has made some baffling running and throwing decisions, that have cost this team dearly. I can't imagine how much money this season has cost him on the free agent market. HH
  6. My Mom would grow bell peppers, stuff them with sauerkraut and then pickle them. They would come out crunchy and delicious. That's the German way of dealing with large amounts of peppers. My Dad, of Hungarian descent, would string his peppers, through the stems and hang them in his garage for weeks. Once dried, he would remove the stems, seeds etc, then grind them into a powder and we would have Paprika for the year! HH
  7. Lawyer jokes are the best!!! Here's one for yah! Fishing related! What's the difference between a lawyer and a carp? One's a scum sucking bottom feeder and the other is a fish! There you go! I'm here all day! Roast beef is in the lobby! HH
  8. Take it across the street to the guys at Ravine. Colin and Rob are good guys and are fair. They won't do anything without your approval and always guarantee their work. I have used them for years and they are my go to guys. HH
  9. Might be time to call a lawyer... sorry you have to endure this. HH
  10. Lew, I fully understand! It's not easy doing all that smiling, holding big ass ski's! My guess, your mouth is just too sore from smilin all those years, so take the break, give the jaw some much deserved time off and save those smiles for your loved ones. HH
  11. I was at work, downtown core, right beside First Canadian Place. That office, had just been down-sized from 20 people, to just one, me! I was working on transitioning to a new company and by myself in the office. My new boss was working from an office, three blocks away. My mother in law called me to tell me of the first plane. I trotted down to the coffee shop on the main floor, as I knew they had tv's throughout the shop. I was standing there, sipping my coffee, when the 2nd plane hit... strangest thing I have ever seen. I went back to work, hoping someone from my new company would call and let me know what their plans were, and I waited.... About two hours into it, I finally decided to call myself and was told that they had forgotten about me and that they had already sent everyone home!!!!! Rumours at the time were that Toronto's financial district would likely be a target as well, so, I locked up and went home to watch the events unfold. My wife, pregnant at the time was in tears, thinking that the world was about to end and is this the kind of world we want to bring a child into? A remarkable day to be sure.... HH
  12. I don't own a Shimano reel! The OP suggested that he is not currently an avid fisherman, which to me means that he will not be using the reel every day or weekend. His budget is somewhat restricted, so I suggested a reel that has performed flawlessly for me for a few years. Are they the best reel on the market, obviously not, but for limited use they have been just fine. I don't need a Lexus to go to the grocery store. HH

  14. A little off topic, but I thought I'd pass along a recent tire/rim experience I had with my Ford Flex. i had my shop do a tire rotation and afterwards, the truck was shaking badly at highway speed. Shop thought the balance may be out so they checked all four tires. Well, it appears that I had a bent rim. Here's where the head shaking begins! Ford wants $1,200 all in for a new rim! My gut hurt from laughing at that price!!!! Called a few wreckers and sourced a used rim out of Quebec... $330 all in. HH
  15. No riggers? Dipsey and or lead core all ten colours. HH

  17. My wife's Aunt and Uncle live on the outskirts of Honey Harbour. They have a bear that has made itself at home in their back yard. Last year, it took most of their lawn furniture back int the woods. This year, it just sits on their back deck and watches the Olympics. HH
  18. Agreed... but what you neglected to also mention is that all those administrative types also receive full benefits and an indexed pension. Take a look at some jurisdictions in the US... the pensions negotiated in the past have come back to haunt those places as the pension commitment absorbs most of their tax dollars. Cops riding buses to crime scenes in Detroit because they don't have the money to pay for cars or gas. Strong vibrant neighbourhoods abandoned because they can't afford law enforcement in an entire town. HH
  19. I told you eaten those smelt would catch up on yah! HH

  21. The fastest way I know of to hook a big Pike is to tie a jig on my 6lb line and jig for pickereyes! HH
  22. Preacher is one messed up show, so much so, that I find myself looking forward to each week, just to see what the heck is going to happen next. HH
  23. I'd rather fish with Trump. Unless Hillary has a camo business suit. HH
  24. Nice job Bernie! Now get out in the boat with your drone and do some filming/flying! HH
  25. FishnSled just had his transom replaced on his Crestliner. The wood was soaked and the transom spongy. if your is the same design, it will rot as well. Crestliner puts a metal cap across the top of the transom, but does not seal the cap. After years of use, water splashing up would make it's way into the top of the transom and get stuck there. It yours is the same design, I would highly recommend that you remove the cap, seal it with either a rubber gasket or calking. HH
