  1. Uh huh, if you hit the right day. It can turn into a slugfest there. It's an OK ramp but watch out for wind direction. Fishmaster is OK, cheap but a very steep ramp, my bow always scrapped the trailer and if you have bad knees the dock is not good. Free one down river from him on the same side as Fishmaster is available too. As also said the boat club ramp behind the arena but pricey as well as a trailer park on the other side of the river on the way to Port M. and the park owners are not too pleasant. Our choice is usually the BBQ at the dam. Not expensive, out of the wind, shady areas if it's hot, washrooms with real toilets ( wife likes that) and decent food when you return to dock. Hell if the fishing is bad you can even try your luck at the mini put. The guys working there are a hoot too! The drawback is that it is the furthest from the lake if that's your goal, but you can always troll on the way out to Erie and see what happens. Speaking of slugfest, I have come close to it at the BBQ a couple of times this year. Ignorant diots taking up space in the ramp entry prepping their boats instead of doing it off to the parking area then trailer it to the ramp. Inconsiderate IDIOTS!!! Enjoy the
  2. Those pictures bring tears to my eyes. Betcha they'd be longer if you ran the tape along the outside curve
  3. Did ya try shining a bright light over the shed? Works for Wiarton Willy. One look at his shadow and he runs back into his hole to hide!
  4. All subjective I think. Tried it, didn't like it, son likes it though. To me it tastes a little strong but fried up nice white and flakey. To me it tasted nothing like walleye.
  5. Sorry to hear the sad news. 97, great age to live to. Nice tribute to put on your boat, was thinking the same when my father went, just couldn't decide on what to put on it. Glad you know how to do it. Best wishes to you and your family.
  6. Amazing! Everything looks fantastic, what a reward for the work and wait. Next time I'm in N.W PA I'm dropping in for a couple of ribs...You'll be easy to find, just follow the aroma of you're smokey BBQ.
  7. Still a few mom and pop places left in Clearwater beach, they are being (or maybe I should re-phrase that to they were all being bought up and torn down to build expensive highrise condos till the big economic bust) We stayed in several of the small motels over the years and enjoyed the time we were there. Just don't go to the small joints expecting Trump Tower and you'll be fine. this is a good link Staying in motels on the intracoastal side of the island is a cheaper alternative to beach front and the beach is no further than 2 or 3 blocks away. There are a couple of inexpensive restaurants there and a Publix grocery store on the island just before the end of HWY 60, also a Walgreens in Clearwater Beach. And the peir is right at hand The Sea Captain is pretty decent, Sandman I just discovered is now history as well as the Sea Cove. My sister and husband stayed several time at the Ritz across from the beach. Enjoy your trip south...and don't forget med insurance! Probably a good opportunity to at least see this area before it becomes too expensive.
  8. I fastened a piece of PVC plumbing pipe to a platform/box I have for the gas tank, slip a cheap beach umbrella into it and there ya go, instant shade and coolness. Wife loves it! Works fine as long as it's not too windy and the boat is either achored, drifting or trolling. Neat thing is that the shade moves around as the boat moves about giving the bow passenger and the tiller a chance at some shade.
  9. Nice to see the Buffalo News does a decent fishing report or csll it a column. The local rag hear in the Hammer does little to support the activity.
  10. Caught one trolling the Grand above the Dunnville dam a five or six years ago. Went over the same spot several more times but not another to be found.
  11. In no particular order. The Jerk Throw Mamma From The Train Grumpy Old Men (both 1st & 2nd) Tinmen Forrest Gump Blazing Sadles Young Frankenstein Silver Streak Planes Trains and Automobiles Christmas Vacation Favourite comedy actors: John Candy, Danny Devitto, Steve Martin, Gene Wilder. Favourite comedy directors: Carl Reiner, Mel Brooks. An older movie that could be on the list is one I have not heard of lately, One Flew Over The Cookoo's Nest. Any one seen it on TV lately?
  12. Ended up putting one on my old van after having an appointment with Hitch World, they were supposed to have the hitch I needed in stock but didn't after I drove from Burlington to thee Hamilton Mountain. Got slightly ticked off and stopped at Crappy Tire on the way home. Bought a hitch and did it myself the next day. Pretty easy to do. This car I went to U Haul and paid them to put one on, $275 with tax, done.
  13. Just like Terry said. I too drove a tow truck, back in the early 80's. Safety course said open end up. Reason: if the chain were to break then the chain would go down and not fly upwards. So I still follow that rule.
  14. Yep, lots of bucks to go somewhere you really don't want to go to in the first place...take them fishing instead, if they get bored toss them into the lake, if they can swim that is. Cannot get over the admission fees to any park these days. And then as an added slap in the puss most charge your car a fee to enter too! And your car never even asked to go in the first place!
  15. Yep! Gotta wonder why?
  16. Had one in the classified few months back, still have it if your interested. I believe it's from a 9.9 Evinrude/Johnson. PM if it's what you want
  17. Biggest pike I've ever seen being caught was on this lake....but of course that was about 40 years ago Where in the hell does time go?
  18. Doesn't matter how great a deal you think you got...remember this. They just shafted ya good. If they didn't get you negotiating they'll get ya when the deal is closed. After you're done with the sales dude it's then up to the add on rep to get into your wallet. That's where the real money is made. Just wait and see how they will pull out all the ropes to get their paws into your pocket. Not only that but everything they try to sell you is way over priced. Refuse the theft insurance scam sticker and engraving too that they say is part of the added admin fees, what a ripoff! Good luck, you are entering into their world now. There is no such thing as a good deal, they always get their money, they just change the wording around to make it sound good.
  19. Glad you all made it to safety. Even with well earned experience on a particular lake one cannot predict the thoughts of mother nature. I think your superior being desrves a prayer of thanks and the generous thoughtful lady deserves some sort of reward for her care, consideration and her kindness. Now for the important question....were the fish biting?
  20. I've found many Simcoe/Couchiching perch that were infested with them. Some were so bad that you would swear there were more worms than fish. Those ones never made to the pan and managed to pick them out of the ones that found the pan. Funny thing is Lake Erie perch so far at least, have been grub/worm free, from what I have seen anyway.
  21. Great pictures, nice to see you had a good time. We made a trip years ago to the finger lakes area and remember the scenery was beautiful there also.
  22. First time out on the water for us this season, I had a rainy day out looking for kitties with a work buddy on his rebuilt boat but this morning was the first time out for us in our boat. Great weather, too many little misshaps but we managed OK. Hooked onto a decent sheephead and passed the pole over to the Mrs while I swung the boat around and let her have the fun of reeling it in. They put up a nice little battle and since no others were caught I was glad to have let her pull it into the boat. That's it, just one landed, a couple of missed ones and a little sunburn. Alot of boats out on the lower Grand today. Iv'e seen it worse but there is nothing like enjoying the almost solitude of a weekday on the water rather than the weekend crowd.
  23. Nice! And I like the fact you are reasponsible too! Not one of those peppers or tomatoes are going to escape from their cages.
  24. Not effecting my household, except for my gas, hydro and phone bills not getting through. I can feel for the postal union members. Who the hell wants to lose what was fought for in past contract negotiations? However, dropping the starting pay to $18 and hour from the current $23 an hour does makes the me shake my head and because there are a whole lot of underpaid workers and unemployed who would stand in line for hours or days to have the opportunity to get one of those jobs. Best of luck Photoz.
