Sorry Photoz I can't add anything constructive here but I can only say I'm still happy with my 2 of my TV's, a cheap which is now old, 27" picture tube style from Wally world and an even older 28" ? Sears version of a JVC that came with a 3 year warranty standard back then and not optional. I also have a flat screen 19" RCA (lcd, plazma which I doubt, I don't know and don't care) bought a couple of years ago and hate it! Too damn complicated! I like the old TV's, simple, no hastles, turn 'em on watch some mindless tv shows and that's it. I like the KISS theory...keep it simple s_ _ _ _ _. And I haven't found one TV show, a sports event or even a movie worthy enough for me to spend the big bucks on a new TV set. Plus Cogeco doesn't offer a decent signal that's worth a dime either. I just want reliability, that's all I ask for and from what has been said here none of the brands discussed have offered that. Hope you find what you're looking for and it remains trouble free for a good long time. Just an opinion of a bored insomniac at 4:30 in the morning and has been awake since 3 A:M.

That looked fantastic! Right up to it was covered in that gooey stuff. Each his own eh. I like asparagus bare except for butter and salt and pepper, same goes for that great looking loin, omit the butter that is. Nice job and that weave must have tried your patience.

That was good to read, thanks for posting.

100.000 Walleye Stocked in Hamilton Harbor
pikehunter replied to Fish Farmer's topic in General Discussion
Exactly, fish names are a regional thing, that's my point. We are all right, well at least to a point as they are really called PICKEREL! Agree with you Siel that it is a shame most will end up in the line at the buffet table for the bigger fish. I suppose though the best will survive and with so many fishing folks not keeping bay fish for the table we can only hope that the few remaining will end up growing up to be large breeders...and just think of it this way, those offspring will enjoy the benefits of having 3 eyes and multiple fins! Nice variety catch there Billy....especially the pickerel. Enjoyed the photo. -

Well now, slap me in the kisser with a fish! I shall now stand corrected. The fish will now be called PICKEREL! -

With no offence to the U.S born folks around here this could be taken as part of the American invasion of the north. The incident of 1812 still lives on! They couldn't take the north by force so they bought their way in by purchasing our brand names. Home Depot bought Atkinheads, Walmart bought Woolco, Best Buy bought Future Shop, Banana Republic, the Gap, Business Depot, Office Depot, Dollar Tree, U.S Steel buys STELCO, Target buys Zellers (they were much the same anyway with nothing I want to buy) Lowes and now Lowes is attempting to buy Rona! And think of this, every auto manufacturer except for offshore is U.S owned. Then to slap Canadians in the face with a fish tale they rename our sacred pickeral WALLEYE!!! How dare they do that to us! Stand up! Raise your maple leaf! And declare that "I AM Canadian! The fish is not called Walleye! It is a Pickeral! And may it roam our waters strong and FREE!" Now, may I appologize, I have an excuss for this as I have been awake since 3AM and can't sleep, I am a tired old soul... Edit: Don't forget Bass Pro Shops... -
You're on the right track. It is frustrating I know had a similiar problem with a Johnson 2 stroke last year after spending more than I wanted to at a repair shop to solve the problem. The mechanic told me to use Shell gasoline and only the top preminum as it does not contain any ethanol and when you read the pump it usually says it does not contain any. Costs more but worth the extra pennies. He also told me not to rely on fuel stabilizers to solve the ethenol moisture problem after I told him I always used Johnson/Evinrude's own brand and stayed away from the cheap stuff but usually ran Pioneer regular gas. Fine for the car he said, not for the boat.

Nope, not at all a rarity. Caught many cats and some big fiesty ones too in the Lower Grand on Mepps. My favourite, which is hard to find, is a dressed Brown Trout Mepps #4, tipped with a piece of worm was always my go to lure. Can't find it everywhere but Bass Pro and LeBarons usually had them in varous sizes.

Nice looking boat. Isn't it amazing how good a galvanized trailer looks even after12 years? You should be able to enjoy many happy hours in that boat and you didn't have to have the wealth of Fort Knox in your back pocket to buy it. My last boat had a galvanized trailer, I decided that it was a must when I bought it after seeing other brand new painted ones rusting away sitting on the dealer's lot. Don't forget to check your wheel bearings, tires and bottom end oil in the motor. Cogratulations

You must rally really want a new boat a hell of alot to go in debt $150 a month, especially for that long. I know not everyone can pay cash for what they "think" they need in life but I believe I'd rather buy a cheaper new boat or a similiar used one. Something I could afford. My father once told me this, "If you can't pay cash for it then that means you can't afford it." I try to live by those words as best as I can. Just my opinion, don't be phased by all the shine of a showroom beauty. It will soon fade with the first scratch or the first time you run the motor into the shop and look at the $500 bill sitting on the counter, the $150 payment bill in one hand and your now empty wallet in the other. Sorry to be a killjoy but "Dems da facts son."

100.000 Walleye Stocked in Hamilton Harbor

Wonder if they will behave like lower Grand R. walleye. Spend time in the lake when the water gets too warm and head back into the harbour in the fall? In that case they will have spent a little time in water that is somewhat less polluted. -
I want to hear about your sunglasses
pikehunter replied to GreenCanada's topic in General Discussion
Can't believe how much paople are willing to spend on sunglasses. For some of the numbers I have seen here or in stores I would only want to pay if they were prescription lenses. I wonder if some of the buyers of these expensive brands have actually done a side by side field test to compare cheap ones to their pricey twins? I have a brand new pair of Oakly lenses, never been used. My son wanted the name on the frame when he ordered new prescip. sunglasses but the lenses are of no use to him! He was willing to pay 250 bucks for what I see as a cheap plastic frame to have prescription lenses put in them because that name was inscribed on the temple! VANITY! I have a cheap pair of Berkleys bought in FLA. a few years ago, 8 bucks and just bought another pair at Wallyworld across the border for 5 bucks out of a sectioned off cardboard box so they were cheaper than the other Berkleys. They are great! The glare on my car's windshield totally disapears and find I can't drive that piece of crap car I have without them in any sort of daylight. As for fishing, they work pretty damn good too. But then some people are not happy unless the name on the label says $$$ s. A can of peas or a green pepper at Fortino's or Lawblaws came from the same warehouse and was shipped on the same truck as the ones at No-Frills but they cost more at the first named stores. Pay whatever you like if that's what turns your crank have fun lining somebody's pocket. -
Salmon that's 'clean' enough to eat. Where?

Yes what Barnham once said is true, "There is a sucker born every minute." And I'm not refering to a fish when I said sucker. Read a book one time, a true account of the authors travels. He was on a fishing boat on the U.S east coast. They pulled a huge skate from the net, a throw back he quizzed, at the time no body would buy skate for the table. He was told it was keepable, they punch holes in the wings and sell it as scallops, so next time you buy scalllops remember that. A fish is a fish is a fish, anyone can call it whatever they wish as long as the are not using the proper scientific name. Mcdonalds used to call the fish in their fillet-o-fish "North Atlantic Whitefish," (aka, cod) because it sounds better. Who knows what it is really is these days? In Britain the fish and chip shops were using shark and calling it whatever before most people would buy shark meat. Ever been to a Chinese buffet restaurant and see fried or baked fish sitting on the steam table? Ever wonder what it is? The sign says fish, but they don't even try to name it! It doesn't swim it's way onto my plate! Whatever anyone calls a fish is unimportant, why bother getting your tail in a knot? -
Don't know why you think that Billy or why you said that. I feel it is also a shame and has nothing to do with being military or a military family. It is a shame all those lives were forfitted and for what? A war that is said couldn't be won? And wasn't won. It is a shame so many have left us. The wall itself is not a shame, the lives lost are the shame. I feel for for those who have fought and were lucky to return and I also feel deeply for those families who had friends and relatives that did not make it home. May all of the lost souls rest in peace and the survivors nightmares end. Edited...

I can picture it. Bunch of suits sitting at a board room table, caviar and smoked salmon treats and they're all sittting there and one of them pipes in, "What we gonna call this piece of crap?" Guy at the other end jumps up, "DART, That's it, the Dodge Dart, genious! " For our Next topic of the day shall we vote on a bonus for old Cedric there for coming up with that original name tag?" Ay Ay, and the first one off the line goes to Cedric too! Let's toast to this wonderous occasion! What a shame.
-
NOPE! Why do they want to put a Dart badge on that? Put anything other name on it, don't try to convince us that is a dart. Just plain stupid.
-
I have one of those. My father gave it to me years ago. Don't have the box though, and never tried it with anything on it, only bare hook which resulted in nothing. Now that I have seen your post it has dawned on me that it is an antique! And I have more where that one came from too, including old reels and fishing poles.

Toronto Sportsmen's show is moving again

You got it right Dave. When I was young it was something my friends and I looked forward to. A break after a long winter and a tiny opportunity to dream of the season ahead. Plus the fact my birthday was at the same time as well as March break. The last few times we went it was just not right, too much money and parking too costly. And I believe some of the flavour of the old building it used to be held in held part of the charm. Spend your money locally instead. -
Thanks Billy B I don 't think we can get that in Ont. anymore. Dam laws! Only thing I see on the shelves is the crap with iron in it, or as I call it, "rusty water." I will look around though. My neighbour had a "weed killer" pro do his 2 years ago. Spent a whole lot of money to kill charlie and it didn't work. They were using their version of the "environment friendly" rusty water treatment. Just went back to the link to find location where available. Funny thing, it asked for my postal code, not my zip code so I thought that, OK maybe it is available over here. Nope! All locations were on your side of the river. Next trip to your side of Lake Erie's butt hole (the falls) I will look for it. Thanks.

There are some good areas to troll below the dam. As said, Fishmaster's ramp is steep but his price is good and he has good worms at a fair price. I like the ramp at the Grand Island BBQ and you can grab a lunch there when you're done. Keep an eye on your depth/fishfinder as the depth can change quickly. One spot close to the bank goes from over 20' to under 2 feet in seconds! Never know what will hit your lure, a 2 foot long sheaphead or 20 pound cat can add some fun and liven up your day. Have a good day and catch some fish!

Good one Dave. I too am proud to say I know you.

Sodded the front lawn when we bought this place 6 years ago, ever since I have been able to control the weeds by digging them out. Have one dandelion in a spot alongside the driveway that I cannot kill as the root is under the pavement and by now the root is probably is likely about a foot long! My backyard has a problem with creeping charlie, I can't get rid of it! Before the herbicide ban I tried the stuff to kill it, didn't work, it flourished and spread like crazy. Tried pulling it out after that with no luck. Last year I tried the "new friendly version" of weed b gone and it turned a little dark and then it began to thrive. Tried 3 times to get rid of it and spent over a hundred bucks on that crap! All it is is rusty water, same goes for the path clear and the other kill all stuff, it's just vinegar, turns the weeds dark but doesn't kill the root. Save your money. If you want to kill everything you can still buy the "good stuff" wipeout I think it's called, at Lowes but they keep it under lock and key. Home Depot only carries the so called environment friendly garbage and the only one it's friendly with is the manufacturer and the weeds that love it. The old formula versions did seem to work, but not on my creeping charlie or yellow clover. They have been proven safe if they were used as instructed. Just my worthless opinion. And I hate creeping charlie but I have learned to live with it, for now at least.

I Tried For 2 Weeks To Buy North American NF
pikehunter replied to bushart's topic in General Discussion
Unions are not the problem, some business folks are not to blame either. The blame goes to greed. We all shop and most of us have one concern only, price. So who do we have to point the finger at? YOU! You, me and any others who has only one selling feature in mind and that is price! If we didn't have such a mindset the retailers and manufacturers, well some at least, would not have to hunt for offshore made parts or goods. Here's an example. A couple come up to me the other day. They want to buy a retractable patio awning, 10 x 8 to be specific. I tell them we have several suppliers, one from a binder with U.S made products with a decent warranty and many features and good name brand fabric, price $1400 to $1800. Another which is right off our computer quoting system, no info as to origin, warranty or fabric brand, price around $500, and a 3rd supplier who's product is stocked as a "Special Buy" for like $379 for a 12x8 and basically no warranty after the 1st season and have customers pissed that the fabric only lasted a season. The dude thought they would be better off to get the better product from the States at the highest price and longest expected life but her comment was yeah, but we can buy 3 or even 4 of the cheap Chinese ones! They left to argue on their own about which is the best buy. Anyone want to wager on which one they will buy? Another eg. of this is years ago we tried to market an awning made in Germany which was very expensive but built like a Mercedes. We couldn't get an order for one of them. Boils down to most of us are happy with junk so long as it's cheap. And why not? After all this has become a disposable society and the Chinese keep reinforcing this reality. One day the world will be flying a red flag and we'll all be living and working for the company store. We should all be aware of origin and buy local if we can, otherwise the bight in the butt will really hurt in the end. This goes for cross border bargain hunting also. Support your neighbours, anyone remember that campaign from years ago?
