  1. This is all great info thanks very much for all your effort. I will get my map out and try to follow your directions. We plan to take 4 days. Right now, it looks like we will start out on 81 heading south. Home is Hay Bay (BOQ), Canada. We were there a number of times 15-20 years ago. Kinda rusty on some things. We have never driven before or taken this much time. bayboy P.S. sorry we could not write sooner. Internet problems....
  2. Hi there baygirl and I are driving to Indian Shores Florida the last week of December. Any ideas regarding driving route; where to stop and where not to stop would be greatly appreciated. Of course any fishing tips would be greatly appreciated as well. We will be staying on the Intracoastal waterways. Thanks. bayboy
  3. Great tips thanks so much. Have never been for more than 2 weeks before and not for 10 years. The topic and culling is huge. Thanks again. bayboy
  4. Thanks very much for the info. Plan on following up. Very helpful. bayboy
  5. Hi there baygirl and I are investigating a 2-3 month (Jan-March 2012) winter getaway to the Clearwater/St Pete's side of Florida. We are looking for something with cooking facilities, swimming pool, not necessarily beach front; a good price and excellent condition. Trailer parks are ok. Any good recommendations or warnings of where or what to avoid would be greatly appreciated. bayboy
  6. For those of you who may not read the Napanee Beaver, here is the link to the story of last week's tragedy. The article goes on to reinforce the "rules" of ice safety. http://www.napaneebeaver.com/localnews/loc...an28_page3.html bayboy
  7. Took a run out to Sherman's this aft. Ice very bad. First 10-15' is broken ice and open water. Where there is ice it would be 2" thick maximum. Very treacherous. Nobody out of course. Hard to see. Blowing snow, very cold. Could not see out to the Reach. Most of the time could not see the south shore across from Sherman's. It would have been a good day to have a couple of ice huts on shore; all warmed up; and then we could have tested out our survival suits at the ramp, in controlled conditions. We would probably be surprised how clumsy we would be in cold, wet, survival suits, on floating ice blocks....Probably could have learned a lot if we were brave enough to do it. By the way, I have no intention of trying this! Checked the weather report. Really cold night time temperatures coming, starting on Thursday. http://www.theweathernetwork.com/weather/caon0462 Stay safe. bayboy
  8. The big fish are starting to move into the bay. Had a great day on the water with Captain/photographer Superdad and MuddlerMan. Caught a nice 9 pounder on the 09th of the 09th of the 09th! Measured 28 inches. I had a couple of weeks of slow fishing, and then one day changed it all. We had 5 keepers!!! Here's the largest one. Most were caught using a Chartreuse single blade spinner and worm, in the Sherman's point area. bayboy
  9. Great feedback, thanks. Just called the battery company. They told me that the 3600 series battery that I have, will run 225 minutes at 25 amps. I guess that's that, unless any one knows how to check if the maximizer circuit is working. Would the shape of the prop be affecting the run time? This is a weedless one. My previous motor (36) just had the normal prop shape. Has anyone tried a non-weedless prop? This could be interesting. Looks like I am out more $$ for another battery.... bayboy
  10. Thanks every one for your input and ideas. Sorry to be so long in posting again. I did not want to discourage the flow of additional posts. I will try the new optima batteries, when it is time to replace the battery. I don't know if we have a V1 or not. We have the maximizer technology, I don't know the size of the wiring, but it is the wiring that came with the Minn Kota motor. I have run it with the big motor up, but you use a lot of power just steering, so it works out to be the same running time. I run on number 6 in order to run 1.3 mph. From the performance I got from my 36lb thrust with at 16' boat, I expected much better, from this boat/motor combination. My frustration is that, I didn't know if I had a problem or not, because I still hear that people get a day's fishing out of it (9 hours). Why wouldn't Minn Kota design the motor to get at least that?? These things aren't cheap.. bayboy
  11. I have a Minn Kota PD 55 lb thrust Trolling motor, running off a deep cycle POW-R SURGE 3600 series (battery) no. DC31DT. It has 2 ratings: it has a CCA rating 31DC225; and it has a CA rating of 810. Does any one know how long I should be able to run at 1/2 power? On the top of the motor there is a chart indicating 6 hours, but they do not say what size battery, just 12V. Does anyone know what the power draw would be at 50% speed. I usually troll on #4, 5 or 6 and do most of the steering with the big motor. I also usually run with the wind, keeping a speed of 1 to two mph. I get 4 hours maximum. Some people have said they get 9 hours, with this combination on a bigger boat. (I have a 17 ' Starcraft with a 90HP Mercury motor.) I used to run all weekend on a 36 lb thrust Minn Kota, with my old 16' Springbok runabout. (This current Minn Kota motor has been back to the shop repeatedly for power board replacement; co-pilot replacements X 2; electrical contact repairs; I even bought a bigger battery. It was installed by "professionals."....!!!) Thanks in advance for your feedback. bayboy
