  1. Up north they patch with a piece of aluminum fastened with bolts and sealed with silicone.. sometimes a stashed boat would be poked full of holes with an axe because the outfitters hated people fishing their Hotspot..
  2. This is all sounding like a "you know you're getting old when...." story. I totally get it because stuff like this is so relatable to me now.. 😁
  3. Lol.. the fish are going to love the sparkle on a sunny day
  4. My buddy lives on a hwy that always seems to have stranded boaters with bad bearings. He isn't the only house but they seem to see his place as somewhere to get help. Boat trailer bearings are dunked in water and they really should be checked when you winterize to avoid wrecking them completely.. rear seals can't be re-used either..
  5. At this time of year the rain is good but usually a wet spring is followed by a dry summer..
  6. The Brodie flour mix is basically the same.. you can just add beer and then mix it..
  7. Mr. AL.. lol.. it was a good night.. I just wished I had entered my bookie.. won't happen again 😁
  8. Nice rod.. she's a good kid Chris and I'm sure she will appreciate it greatly..
  9. I love provincial parks but they are crowded these days. I'd rather spend an extra few hours driving to a park where it's peaceful and the fishing is good.. Haliburton Forest might be a decent option
  10. Been involved with a conservation group for over 25 years. We started out raising and releasing pheasants for the township hunt, then morphed into fish netting surveys, planting water plants (30,000 of them),planted thousands of trees, fishing derbies, bluebird nest boxes, trail building, benches, shoreline erosion, and dozens more projects. We will be building a swallow nesting structure on a 40 acre property that was reclaimed farmland. This is kind of a signature site for us and 3400 shrubs and almost 4000 trees later we just have to remove some fencing and it will be finished. I am not sure how long we will be keeping it going because of the age of the volunteers involved and most of what needed to be done has been completed. The fish population at the Binbrook conservation area has crashed and we will be pressing the Niagara Conservation Authority to study the issue but they have limited resources and a lot of internal turmoil to deal with..
  11. The ramp at old cut in Long Point bay is open and there was a boat in the channels on Wednesday. I can't imagine that he went out on the bay in the wind.. it may be a busy place this weekend..
  12. I remember it.. it was good but I could never figure out how it was connected to the Zoo.. lol
  13. If you think vegetables are bad, the big American agriculture lobby has been able to convince the government that hormones and antibiotics are safe to use on food animals.. maximum production is more important than safety..
  14. I just brought here ash that was cut roadside and left.. most is solid but there is some rot starting. If you have standing dead ash it would be wise to harvest and stack in the next year or so..
  15. Nipigon rules are in effect up to the first set of falls on any river that flows into it.. the lake has quite a few rules that only apply on Nipigon. I would love to fish some of the lakes on the islands.. its truly a unique place
  16. If you are up at the Onaman river there are no cottages or lodges directly on the lake. It is a wild area and you can rent a boat on Onaman Lake for numbers and size(Walleye). This is a place where there is a lot of driving and possibly long boat rides on big water..
  17. She lived a long and incredibly interesting life and I've always wondered how the Royal family carries themselves behind closed doors.. like most of us there's a lot of family crap that goes on but the Royal family hides it well.. King Charles has some big shoes to fill..
  18. I use a plain old normark..
  19. I had a 12 foot boat and that particular one felt like I was sitting on the floor of it.. theseat was way to low and some of the Jon boats will feel the same way unless you add a raised seat. I also have a sportspal pointed that I used to fish from but I hope to trade or sell in order to get a 12 foot flat back to take to moose camp.. my sit on kayak does the trick in for some cases but I can't carry much..
  20. The cannon track isn't cheap but it seems sturdy. I got mine from Grimsby Tackle.. Bills bait in Hamilton may also have some..
  21. I'd wait a couple of weeks.. guys will be lowering prices at the end of the season..
  22. The Dodge dealer lots are suddenly full of new trucks.. I can see deep discounts coming
  23. I don't think there's a lot of fishing opportunities at this time of year.. especially with the low water levels
  24. I would get the cheaper one.. I have had good luck with the ones from acme battery in Hamilton and their lifespan has more to do with care and maintenance than how much they cost.. my atv battery is getting up there in age but I have a pull start if it doesn't start...
  25. I think a safe place might be in mount hope.. the old Mike's marine on Hwy 6 is very secure and he still lives on site.
