MY wife works for a great guy. He is the president elect of the Canadian Dental Association and is very generous. He is flying the staff of his office to Ottawa for his inauguration and they are staying at the Fairmont.. My company is sadly the opposite. The only thing I am there for is the pay and pension and they want us to take cuts to both..

Heads up that the save on energy coupons are back. Canadian tire had LED bulbs on for 99 cents per 3 bulbs(GU10 style too). I stocked up..

Hopefully when the mistake comes up at the register it gets corrected in the system.. The customer is doing the store a favor.. Lol.. I recently got a discount on something at Home Depot for pointing out that the price on the shelf was lower than it rang up.. I am glad stores empower their front line employees to correct things like this..

I am the primary shopper due to my shifts so I am pretty good at judging prices.. I have a routine too.. Costco for gas, then coffee at Tims followed by no frills. Then back to Costco for opening at 9:45 with specific things to get and no more.. On the way home I might stop at a fabulous family owned store called Lococos for meat and vegetables.. Knowing the prices of things helps a lot. My wife's hours have been cut at work so we need any advantage we can get. I am always checking the receipt while walking out the store..

I'm trying to convince my wife to go on a trip like this but she said she would fly and meet me there.. Lol.. I love a good road trip!

I wish I wasn't working today or else I would have gone..

Probably a few weeks away depending on the weather of course..

If you somehow have to drive at night on 17 you would be wise to follow behind a semi truck.. They can hit the Moose for you.. We drove up 11 on a night with little traffic and almost paid for it with our lives when a cow moose ran out in front of us.. I could see the white of her eyes.. I bet they were as bugged out as ours were.. Lol

If you have receipts for the extras they may give you a bit more...

Taking Mikes advice was a good start.. While I have never been on a fly in, I have been on some lakes that are equal to one. Jigs will catch just about anything. You really won't need a lot of tackle. I went on a trip with a buddy of mine and he convinced me that a small tackle box is all that I would need. He was right.. A small variety was more than enough. As for food I would bring a few premade frozen meals for the days that you are too tired to cook from scratch. Since you aren't going to haul in a bunch of beer you should have plenty of available weight.. Lol

Where I hunt in Northern Ontario it's first come first served.. A sign means nothing.. It's a courtesy to leave the area if someone else is there first.. If there's a side road and someone is camped there then we turn around and find somewhere else..
-
I would think that if no one else was there by the 3rd week then you should be ok. Crown land is first come first served.. I don't know what the fishing is like but if you are only there for a week you may be tight for time unless you get a moose early..

Princess auto or Nando trailer on Rymal for the parts. If you don't want to do it yourself then I would go to Nando or Mohawk trailers...

Here in the Hamilton area we have no frost left in the ground. I was pounding posts with no resistance at all. Robins, redwing blackbirds and even bluebirds have been here for a while. The biggest indicator of spring comes from the birds and animals.. My daughters horse has been shedding like crazy for a week now..

I had a truck that was stolen and burnt as well.. Found on 6 Nations and towed to a yard in Burlington. What a royal pain in the arse considering I was located in Hamilton at the time.. I didn't take the first offer from the insurance company so I ended up with a bit more money but still not enough to get anything without another loan. The sad thing is that most of the people on the rez know who's doing the crime but won't say anything. There's no political motivation to go after the thieves either... It disrupts your life and finances and results in higher insurance premiums.. No wonder the guy in Binbrook took the law into his own hands when he shot a guy trying to steal his truck.. Around here it's advisable to have a kill switch and tracking device on your truck..

I am at work today and I watched a sailboat go past... Unbelievable.. My plans to ice fish in the Ottawa area while my daughter visits her friend during March break may be cancelled..

My father in law passed a little less than a year ago from cancer. He waited too long to go to the doctor and refused any alternative treatment. Himself, my daughter and I were supposed to go on a fishing trip but it wasn't meant to be. I got some great advice on a trip from Mr Borger so my daughter and I went but it would have been great to have him with us... There's some good advice and information here.. Good luck..

Warm here too... Although I think people were crazy before it warmed up... Lol

We can cast a line into open water all year long here in Hamilton. Sometimes within sight of the ice fishermen...

Anyone fishing open water? And I'm acually going Ice Fishing!!

I don't have security clearance for that area.. Plus that type of thing will get you fired. Pete himself got into some trouble driving over there... There used to be good perch fishing off the dock at Erie works about 10 years ago and the ramp stayed open late into the year... If the launch was available at Bayfront I'm sure a few boats would be going out.. There was a guy out sailing on the bay last week!! -

A calm, sunny day ice fishing.. Now that would work for me!! I still have this crazy hope that I will get out this year... -
22 hours is a bit too much for me.. 14 to jellico and you are in a great area to fish and hunt.. Not so much for moose anymore but lots of grouse. The lakes have pressure but if you go off the beaten track you can find fly in quality fishing. Our last moose trip cost less than $350 each for 13 days because we stay in a trailer in the bush. We know of at least 4 groups from the Binbrook /Hamilton area who travel to the same places to hunt and fish. We head into town every 4-5 days to get more food from the freezer or have a shower at a house one of the groups own...

I have the same problem with mine.. Same brand but taking it apart is a lot tougher than a Shimano. I gave up trying and only use it on my ultralight in warmer weather.

Crappie are by far my favorite fish through the ice.. Too bad the ice is so poor this year in the south end of the province.. The explosion in interest in the last 30 years has made it tougher to keep honey holes a secret..
