NF Trent Lakes Waste Management ...getting ridiculous
pics replied to buckhorn250's topic in General Discussion
In Hamilton the lifespan of the dump has been extended by at least 20 years by limiting what goes in. We are only allowed one bag a week but unlimited recycling and compost/leaf bags. You get 18 extra tags for additional bags over and above your one a week limit. Our transfer station will take oil, batteries, propane tanks, tires, appliances, light bulbs, electronics, tires etc etc for nothing. A dump is a toxic mess that leaches crap into the ground water and methane into the air. Ours generates electricity from the off gassing to reduce emissions. Farms around the dump have poor water wells due to the constant pumping of contaminated water that is sent to be treated. Anyone with cows have had to get out of the business due to water issues. All of our old dumps have to be monitored for leachate and methane decades after closing. There's good reason to limit and monitor what goes in.. You wouldn't want one in your neighbourhood.. -
Electric Motor Canoe Set Ups - What's yours look like?

Sportspal has a motor mount that they sell with a canoe but I find them a little weak for my 2hp . I use an aftermarket mount that's a little heavier to carry but it's sturdy.. I can't post pictures right now though. If I was going to put an electric motor on I wouldn't use a box for the battery. -
Water settles to the bottom.. Just pour off the gas until you see water.. Don't use it in a boat though..
-
That's amazing.. We don't have spots like that in my area anymore.. sadly.. I love fishing shallow wood for crappie.. They just stack up and hang out..
-
I pass a half dozen Dollarama stores just running my errands... I guess I will leave extra time when I can..
-
I remember the last Dollarama item.. The $3 Plano box.. Long gone now!! If you are interested in these get them while you can.. Lol
-
We are getting a storm warning in Hamilton but I don't see anything on the radar... Yet.. Lol
-
Worked 3 twelve hour shifts...
-
The harbour is stilted in so there's not much water.. The Niagara Conservation Authority now owns it. I am not sure if it's happened yet but the plan is to provide a canoe launch..

My wife loves the smoked salmon I make.. There's a lot of work involved when you have a smoker with a side box like mine.. It's very hard to control the temperatures if it's windy or cold outside and if you go over 180 degrees for any length of time you get too much albumin which is coagulated protein. Not harmful but it just means that you went too hot, too soon.. A Bradley with temp control would be ideal but I like cutting my own wood for the smoker ... There are utube videos explaining how to make your own pucks for a Bradley... Hmm

Where there's one crappie, there's bound to be more!!

Be aware of some sections of the highway that have no cell service. You won't have any between Hearst and Longlac and it will be spotty after that until Geraldton. We found service along the highway near the river past the tractor tire road and near the intersection of hwy 11 and the 801 before you head north into the bush.. Be very careful of the log haulers on the 801, they pretty much have priority on the roads. You will have to slow to almost a stop when one passes due to the dust.. Quite often there will be another following... My buddy is heading up at the end of the month to fish and scout for moose..his brother has a trap line south of the ORR..

The white church is still standing somehow.. If I was planning the trip instead of my buddy, I would fill the cans somewhere near "the Kap" due to the weight of hauling the gas itself. Where we put the gas cans in the truck near the cab makes it a big job to dig them out. I will be pulling an enclosed trailer this year so no cramming in the pickup.. I still don't think I can change his mind.. Lol
-
Geraldton is the last gas.. The station in Jellico no longer operates. Just a dumpy variety store left now .. When we moose hunt we bring reserve gas from home and always stop at the Husky to fill up.. It's a long drive to get gas when you are up that far...

25 odd years ago I could easily catch a limit of walleye on Sturgeon.. Nowadays with the same equipment I think I would struggle to get one or two..
-
Be sure to feel the temperature of the water coming out the pee hole. That will give you an indication of the engine temperature..
-
And I have to drive 8 hours for decent Walleye fishing...lol(and no crowds)..
-
I was looking at toons this week.. Some can be expensive..
-
I don't think you would like to know just how many contaminants are in a snapping turtle. The government tested some in a lake close to me with alarming results...
-
there's a butcher up there that says one guy brings in a couple of dozen moose every year. Must be gifting them to elders or selling the meat. There is no accountability or record of how many are taken. I know a trapper with a large territory near lake Nipigon and he sees less moose every year. The bear numbers are up but not enough to decimate the population. We go up for the bow hunt but we can't compete with the local natives who are allowed to use rifles.. Day or night.

Wood fueled is cheaper to heat but a lot of work for what is basically a big bathtub.. I would love one to soak in after nightshift to help me sleep but I'm too cheap to spend that much $$$
-
maybe that means they care.. Lol.. Letting you recover in peace. My company would be calling you on a regular basis for proof that you can't come back.. Then they make you see the company doctor for a second opinion.. We need a bad bosses/company thread.. Lol
