  1. mmmm...50 pounds of leeches.
  2. Northern Pike...the new fish of 10,000 casts If something isn't working, try something else. Don't just keep that xrap on there. Try slow, try fast, try shallow, try deep, go with something that looks ridiculous like a red devil spoon that casts a mile and can be fished at any depth and virtually any speed, bounce a jig off bottom...eventually you'll find the meal ticket
  3. If you take South Kahshe Lake Rd off highway 11 it ends right at the lake (if I recall correctly) and there is a launch there. If you head straight out from the launch in a few hundred metres you'll be running into trouble. If you hang a left heading away from the launch the boating is safer. Last time I fished there was Sept 11, 2001 so what I've told you here are general, not specific memories.
  4. Congrats on the first pike and a succesful outing. You're right about those hammerhandle pike...hit hard then have the same fight as a wet worksock. Wait till you tie into a big one though, all of a sudden they seem to figure out the fight thing
  5. No doubt register. I won a prize by placing 48th out of 500 plus in a simcoe ice fishing tourney by weighing in a dink perch. Guess my dink was bigger than everyone elses, but I've heard that before.
  6. I dropped a whole photo album in Simcoe once, if you can find it there are some truly nice pic's
  7. that one must be a city trout...got some crazy piercing through his nose
  8. that anchor you found...was it red by any chance? Was it attached to a blue rope? If so I think its mine. Luckily we live in the same city so you can just drop it off any time
  9. its been a while since anyone smashed some fish around here, glad to see a good report, keep em coming
  10. a mighty fine collection of coarse fish you tied into!
  11. I don't think its ridiculous. Sounds like stealing to me. Guess white collar crime isn't deserving of jail time either?
  12. look yummy. Remember to have a flame thrower of some sort to re-attach tail after first chomp, otherwise makes for a pricy disposable bait.
  13. Some gas stations have vending machines that sell that kind of stuff. I need a vending machine that'll fire out some leeches and minna's though
  14. There is the 6 mile lake - Gibson - McRae Lake canoe route just off Hwy 400 that i used to camp at 20 years ago before it became an absolute zoo (free camping will do that). Pretty sure its Gibson Lake (right side of the highway as you head north, past the Georgian Bay Rd. exit) that you can walk to a few sites without even needing a canoe. Good luck on a holiday week-end though. Better get there Wednesday because come later in the week you won't find a parking spot for miles. If you go a little further north I've seen "squatters" where the Musquash River crosses the 400, but thes people are literally 50 feet from the highway whizzing past. Rent a canoe on the way north, it will open up endless options for you. Better yet, get a real campsite, rent a boat from a local resort and enjoy yourself. Well worth the money - no fear of getting your donkey booted for trespassing and you'll catch fish!
  15. hahaha good for you Terry! Last spring I was fishing L. Muskoka the same day as the big pike tourney they have. My buddy caught a pike over 30 inches which likely most of the anglers could have used (we were not entered in the tourney). We joked about selling it, then released it right in front of some guys.
  16. That's the general rule I understand, but I've never put it into practise as almost all of my musky fishing is done in the fall with big honkin' lures
  17. Right on! Good chow of perch plus let the real spawners go.
  18. Never a swan, but plenty of pelicans, the odd seagull, and last summer a loon!
  19. Sportsman's show in Toronto when I was a kid. I wasted all my money fishing in that stocked tank to catch that one big trout swimming around with all the little ones. Cost me a fortune but I finally got him. Only wild one I ever caught was a big shock, caught in a golf course pond!
  20. nice report and pic's. Sounds like a rough day to be a coarse fish in the grand!
  21. Geez, tough call, they are all so ugly. I guess the one that freaks me out the least is the mighty sheephead so I'll have to go with that.
  22. don't have a heart attack, its just one opener of (hopefully) many to come
  23. yup, grab 'em by the hole...works every time
