  1. Find the weedline and troll parallel to the sandbanks. Catch every species there
  2. I went ice fishing the day of my wedding, haven't wet a line since (well, it just feels that way). I'm sure once the kids get older I'll be allowed to go (as long as I take them!)
  3. Yipes, those are some serious fish! Where were you, Great Slave Lake?
  4. I used to fish 6 mile lake fairly regularly about 15 years ago. The area right around the provincial park is great for medium sized pike and largemouth bass. As a matter of fact, the first time I fished there I took a cast at the boat launch before putting the boat in the water and caught a 3 lb largemouth. Lots of weedy bays not too far from the park either. In my old 12 foot boat I usually stayed within a km or 2 from the park, didn't venture out into the big deep water areas. Friend of mine caught a HUGE crappie on a blue fox spinner.
  5. great report guys. And a mighty rock bass to boot, sounds like a good day. I tried Holland River mouth last year at this time. We caught a 32" pike and some snotrockets, but the flotilla of boats was just ridiculous. Seeing that many people with most keeping everything they catch bothered me so I haven't gone back. I know its their right, but it still bothers me.
  6. well, at least you're starting with some of the ugliest ones. That means things will only get better (until of course you move on to dogfish, mudskippers and carp)
  7. c'mon, those twins, (you know, the Campbell's Soup Kids), had a pretty good year. Couldn't tell you what they did in the playoffs though, past my bedtime
  8. Holy mackeral, not only have I never heard of that lake, I've also never heard of the two reference places you mention. I have got to get out more.
  9. Zoinks...I'd debate that one. I've lost my sanity more than once on the 401 crawling all the way from Etobicoke to Whitby (does it normally take over 2 hours to drive that stretch?) I wouldn't touch the 401 unless its a week-end, or hours before/after any "rush" hour.
  10. looks like a nice outing, that one pike is a real snake though. Good length but built like a hockey stick
  11. the best part is no hook throught the hand from one of them stinkin slimy ugly fish
  12. great report, some truly beautiful creation up there
  13. nothin like a feed of rockers to start the season
  14. I've seen it on fishing shows catching pike on top in early spring. Personally I haven't had much luck until the water warms up a bit (late May)
  15. hahaha I love it. Funny because its true
  16. gee wonder what gave it away!
  17. Took me 2 years, but twice in one day I find out that other launch is free to Barrie residents. I went to put the boat in the water tonight after work and true, Tiffin launch was closed. Went a km up the street hoping the booth was closed because I had no $$$. Got there just as they were closing (7 p.m.). Guy informed me it was free anywho to Barrie residents...then I come home and read this! Guess I've been under a rock the past few years.
  18. When I catch my first 20 pound northern I'll let you know. I'm sure they are in lakes like Muskoka, Nipissing and G Bay, I just haven't come across them yet. I think the fish get bigger the further you get from Toronto. Get yourself 8 hours from Toronto and my guess is you'll find the bigguns
  19. 21 years ago I was unfortunate enough to discover a nude gay beach on the island. No sir, won't go back not even for fishing. Ouch, 21 years ago man am I getting old
  20. mmmm...50 pounds of leeches.
  21. Northern Pike...the new fish of 10,000 casts If something isn't working, try something else. Don't just keep that xrap on there. Try slow, try fast, try shallow, try deep, go with something that looks ridiculous like a red devil spoon that casts a mile and can be fished at any depth and virtually any speed, bounce a jig off bottom...eventually you'll find the meal ticket
  22. If you take South Kahshe Lake Rd off highway 11 it ends right at the lake (if I recall correctly) and there is a launch there. If you head straight out from the launch in a few hundred metres you'll be running into trouble. If you hang a left heading away from the launch the boating is safer. Last time I fished there was Sept 11, 2001 so what I've told you here are general, not specific memories.
  23. Congrats on the first pike and a succesful outing. You're right about those hammerhandle pike...hit hard then have the same fight as a wet worksock. Wait till you tie into a big one though, all of a sudden they seem to figure out the fight thing
  24. No doubt register. I won a prize by placing 48th out of 500 plus in a simcoe ice fishing tourney by weighing in a dink perch. Guess my dink was bigger than everyone elses, but I've heard that before.
  25. I dropped a whole photo album in Simcoe once, if you can find it there are some truly nice pic's
